Grim Facade: A Deadly Dowry Collector's Edition is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old HOPers, rejoice! This was such a solid enjoyable game, I loved it. It doesn't have a lot of splash and pyrotechnics, but it makes up for it in excellent story lines (there are three; the main story and two complete bonus stories. The writing was VERY well done, not your usual formulaic plot. The villains are a surprise, the endings fascinating and real. Pleasing as well were the well drawn scenes, which managed to keep the creepy atmosphere without depressing dark coloring. I can't fail to mention the insertion of very old game types into the game - just a taste so that some of you newer gamers get an idea of the wonderful games we played before a certain Roberta Williams broke the text barrier. Also no cutsy tricks with bits and pieces of objects, just recognizable objects. There were a few little glitches with the inevitable language problem in the hops; a brush posing as a comb for example/ I truly enjoyed this game. I got it in a bogo, but it would be worth the full price. In the bonus parts there is also an unusual bonus in a game where you can buy bouquets for former Grim Facade brides, and get a little history of the series. Quite clever, without being annoying, and it reminded me why this series has been a favorite. This will be a game I will play again, because I missed some coins (you collect roses in each scene and coins are hidden throughout the game that you can use to buy needed supplies) and thus I had collect all but 3 coins, so one of the bouquets I couldn't afford. Also I suspect there are other hidden easter eggs I might have missed. I don't mention the puzzles as they are really not my forte, but there were definitely some challenging ones, especially the first map where you had to direct the car through looping streets. A real mind bender! But enough simpler ones that I was able to complete. I highly recommend this very well written and presented CE selection! A solid HOP and Adventure game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I for one enjoyed the game! I personally do not think this game was deserving of just a 3 star rating. I base this on what seems a direction of games generally. Yes it was a bit too easy. The best game within that last few months was Bonfire (s) Stories and I would say I enjoyed Alaskan Wild, It seems that the days are gone for such games as the 13th Skull and the 1st Dire Grove. So with this game I just set back and relaxed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Mother's Love can be a Dangerous Thing You collect roses like engravements in every scene and of course, with that round device of yours you chase flying spheres. Not crazy about the part with the narration-choices since that doesn't add anything special and exciting to the game. The artwork is superb as always...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How can a skeleton bleed? That question was my first thought when I seen that. I wanted to love this game and I started out loving it. I Loved the list hops. I loved the money to buy what you need. I felt I wasn't stealing. I like collecting the roses but numbering the collectible isn't the same as telling you if you got one in a particular scene. I like the mystery and story. What I didn't like was a surplus of notes to read. I'm alright with reading notes but this game had the most I have every seen. One puzzle was all Q&A with a black screen and if it didn't like your answers you had to start over after the third time I skipped it. I didn't like the fight puzzle either and several more. The puzzles I did like were Target on the ghost, gate puzzle, crowns, jigsaw of signs, bar card memory and nut shell. The hops I especially loved where shooting gallery hop and hop with list and jigsaw in the coffin. The collectible roses after the bonus game was fun because you bought flower bouquets for 9 skeleton brides and they were brides from the previous Grim Facade game and had comments.I really enjoyed this. Replayable- Hops 13, Mini-games 16. Movies 10, 4 Music tracks, 4 Screensavers, 10 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art. Since I loved, liked and disliked I can't Recommend. You decide.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ~~~GRIM FACADE 9 : WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOWRY?~~~ Time to join Inspector Lestrade on another case in the continuing saga of Grim Façade. After learning of Amanda Aquille's mysterious illness your investigation leads you to Amanda's mother...Madam Aquille. When you question her she tells you that her daughter died six (6) months ago and because her husband Mr. Aquille loses the family estate in a card game gambling, there was no money to cure her illness or pay for her funeral expenses. Madam Aquille seeks comfort in a hallucinogenic herbal tea and the storyline becomes more bizarre. Murders continue to occur, leaving characters baffled. Only when you save Dr. Fancisco Crioni (the money lender who treated Amanda) do you suspect their may be more than just a ghost murdering people for jewelry and money. The cast of characters are as follows: ◾ Inspector Lestrade, the Inspector who hired the Detective to investigate the truth behind the numerous cases of the Ghost Bride. He becomes one her victims but not before asking the Detective to protect the town in his place and find out the Ghost Bride's true identity. ◾ Amanda Aquille, the young woman from the once distinguished Aquille Family who passed away before her wedding six month shortly before the story and the rumored Ghost Bride. It seems that her unrest spirit is fixed on taking revenge on those who brought miseries to her family and recovering her dowry. ◾ Madame Aquille, the mother of Amanda and the wife of Seignior Aquille who committed suicide due to his gambling debt. Madame Aquille was forced to put the rest of her family's treasures on auction to pay for her daughter's treatment and funeral shortly before the story. The police's investigations left her with bitter feeling. ◾ The Undertaker, a man who worked at the town cemetery. He is attacked by the Ghost Bride's ice magic but saved by the Detective. Madame Aquille gave him the family's golden watch in exchange for him giving Amanda a proper funeral. ◾ The Doctor, the doctor who treated Amanda before she passed away. He refused to order a medicine that could've saved her due to its expensiveness and that Madame Aquille was unable to paid for it. He becomes one of the Ghost Bride' murdered victims. ◾ The Ghost Bride, the antagonist of this game who is believed to be the ghost of Amanda Aquille. She displays supernatural powers such as passing through solid gates and doors as well as fighting with cryokinesis and ice shuriken. Her skeletal body is corporeal and she is also capable of shedding blood. ◾ Martizez the creepy cast who is a standard character in Grim Façade series. I recommend all the Grim Façade games. Cheers! •Mystery of Venice • Sinister Obsession • Cost of Jealousy • A Wealth of Betrayal • The Artist and the Pretender • Hidden Sins • Monster in Disguise •The Red Cat • A Deadly Dowry

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The bride who never dies? I have had a love/hate relationship with Grim Facade games. Some I've thoroughly enjoyed and others didn't capture my attention. This one made me want to play until the end of the demo. I'd give this game 4.5 stars if I could. Good things: Good HOPS; puzzles ranged from easy to I give up for me. I don't have the greatest patience in the world for some types of puzzles so I appreciate the skip button. Storyline has probably been done before but this one didn't make me feel like I'd played the same game from another developer. Neither good or bad: No helper. I could care less if there is one or not but if you hate them you don't get one. If you like them there wasn't one in the demo. Only one collectible - a rose emblem. I appreciate not having to find 3 things in each location personally. Bad: Short demo time. I played this demo in 37 minutes. I did skip two puzzles after getting frustrated with them. One of them was I just didn't understand what I was supposed to do. After I saw the finished puzzle I realized what i'd done wrong. The strategy guide does not show how many total chapters there are so I'm concerned about the length of this game. If I can find out how long this game really is I may buy it as a CE. Otherwise I'll wait for the SE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HERE COMES THE BRIDE – WITH REVENGE AT HER SIDE OVERVIEW: Is a phantom killer on the lose? Detective, you are off to the village of Anzio to help Inspector Lestrade on another case. This one centers on the murders of locals possessing jewelry which the killer desires. However, is jewelry the only motive behind the murders? All the murders seem to point to the recently deceased, Amanda Aquille. Is the jewelry part of her dowry? Not able to investigate a flying ghost, you interrogate her mother, Madam Aquille. The formerly wealthy Madam Aquille has lost everything – her fortune (due to her husband’s gambling), her husband to death, and her daughter to death. Hopefully, she has not lost her mind as well. There are no suspects, except a flying ghost, the dearly departed Amanda. The ghost appears before the killings, leaving a calling card for the next intended victim. Is the killer a phantom bride searching for her dowry or a real live person? This is a horror-lite game. It should appeal to the fans of this series, AMAX game lovers, and those who like a beautifully illustrated game with standard HOP scenes and puzzles which are of average difficulty. The story is decent, although it is somewhat obvious who the culprit might be in this game. However, at times, stories do throw an unexpected element of surprise into the mix. The graphics are dark and dreary and the perfect setting for a bloody tale of revenge and murder most foul. As usual, you collect coins to purchase items. This time purchase items to be used in the game. You also collect roses for bouquets for a skeletal crew of brides. The gimmicky Memory Fragment Detector (which allows you to view those “invisible” items in the HOP scenes) returns in this game. This developer’s games are usually better after the demo; however, there is nothing in the demo which incites me to purchase this game as a CE. It is a great game but I will wait for the SE edition. HOP SCENES: They are a disappointment. In the demo, they are all lists of items. They are not interactive and rather boring. PUZZLES: The puzzles are better than the HOP scenes. They include a sliding tiles puzzle featuring skeletal tokens. You must move and rotate pieces of these tokens so that they fit into the missing slots of four tokens. This is not as easy as it may seem. Rotating the pieces also rotates the pieces of the others. There is an easy jigsaw puzzle involving placing pieces for five signs into place. There is one puzzle I felt was bizarre and illogical. This is sequence puzzle in which you must locate the proper three keys to open a door. However, there is no logic behind the keys to be found – so it become a matter of trial and error. KUNG FU FIGHTING – BRIDAL STYLE! Take on the skeletal bride in this puzzle. First there a puzzle with more runes to ruin your day.. You are given a rune to match up with one of many from the scene. Then hold off a Shuriken (Chinese Star) attack by zapping those lethal weapons before they hit you. LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hard, Custom Hints and Skips: 5 to 200 seconds EXTRAS: Map is given to you at the beginning of the game. 24 Achievements Collect roses for bridal bouquets and coins to purchase items from a vendor’s stand. Gimmicky Memory Fragment Detector which allows you to see items no visible in the scene. Every time you use it, you must locate 5 hidden items. Replay 16 Puzzles and 13 HOP scenes 10 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art,4 Screensavers, Music, Videos HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND PUZZLES IN SEQUENCE HOP SCENES: (A) List of items. Locate items (4 of each) (B) List of items (C) Mini-HOP scene. Locate 12 spokes. (D) List of items within a box. PUZZLES: (1) Easy 2) Moderate difficulty (3) Difficult Zap those memories away! Memory Fragment puzzle. Every time you use the memory fragment device, you must locate 5 hidden items within the scene. A. Sliding/Rotating Tile puzzle. For each of four pieces of four skeleton tokens, move each of the partial token to their designated location and then rotate them so the pieces snap in place. Rating 2 B. Moving tiles puzzle. Slide crowns into their proper location by color. Rating: 2 C. Slider puzzle. Slide blocks to open a path for an eye to go through. Rating: 2 D. Sequence puzzle. Find those keys! Choose 3 keys from a keychain with numerous keys to open 3 locks. You must choose all 3 at one time. There is no logic behind this – so just guess away E. Jigsaw puzzle. Place several pieces of 5 signs into their proper position. Rating: 1 F. Multiple-step – Sock it to the skeletal bride (1) Matching puzzle. Match up runes to fight the ghostly skeleton. (2) Our bride has a penchant for martial arts – so shoot and destroy shurikens (Chinese stars) before they hit you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Mystery Wrapped in Enigma . . . I found this came to be of high quality with good characterizations, artwork, and music. The story line frustrated me a bit--but it is difficult to explain why without spoilers. What I can say is it difficult to say whether we are dealing with trickery or a witch or other unexplained supernatural forces. A lot of things didn't make a whole lot of sense for me. If it's Grim Façade game you're usually dealing with some sort of some sort of revenge motivation--but it's unclear what the revenge was for exactly. I usually don't expect the storyline in these game to make a huge amount of sense--but a little more continuity would be nice. All in all if you like the other games in the series go for it.
