Customer Reviews
Haunted Hotel: Personal Nightmare is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Free the souls from Freedom Hotel This is an EXCELLENT game, probably the best in this series. Granted, the interior scenes are gloomy, dark, and sinister, but the characters are beautifully drawn with the two cutest little kids ever. The mini puzzles have just the right amount of challenge. HOPs utilize find pairs of objects, with each object hidden behind items, quite a bit. Sleuthing is great fun, with tasks and objects to find logical or intuitive. The story is excellent--easy to follow, doesn't bog down in boring extraneous details, and makes all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place with a happy ending. Highly enjoyable to play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loss, Nightmares, and Reunions? 20 years ago, your mother took your younger sister away to try and find help to cure her. She promised they would return soon. They never did. And 20 years later, you receive a letter that may lead you to answers and the family you lost. The visuals and sounds are wonderful in this game. The Haunted Hotel series is a favorite of mine, so I'm happy that the game did as well as it did. When you "sign in" at the hotel, it tells you to mark your fears (out of 3). I did, but I'm confused on whether it showed up in the hall/labyrinth and/or the first task. Or does that carry over to the CE's bonus chapter? The SE ends with everyone saved, so I wonder what the CE bonus chapter would add. (As always, happy to see James in the game!) The entire game didn't take me long to complete, though I don't have an exact estimate of the time. Even though I completed it so soon, I had fun playing the game. It's definitely a winner! If you're interested, try it for yourself. You may just like what you find. It's certainly worth a purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Based on completed main game & bonus play of CE • A note to people new to this site & reading reviews: If you toggle the “SORT BY” on this page, change it to “NEW” (& most helpful) I’ve noticed there are more reviewers in that category that have completed the full game and not just the demo—A lot of them will clearly show at the top “review on completed game” and I always find it so helpful. The SE portion of the game took me 3:02 hrs. CE bonus play took me 1 hour CE secret room took me 8 min. Total Gameplay was 4 hours & 10min I play all of these games on custom mode. I complete all the HOS & try to complete the minigames but I’ll skip them if I become frustrated. I play at an average rate and run the stopwatch on my phone whenever I’m playing so it may take you more or less time. I love how Elephant lets you turn on/off the "special effects" in options. I noticed when I had this setting off the scenes seemed clearer. I would occasionally switch it on/off mid game. MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO MENTION: ~The main game ends quickly, but conclusively and is independent from the CE bonus ending. ~ There were some great mini games in this game. The demo has a (challenging) arial obstacle mg of a black horse and rider that was fun. Page 20 of wtg has one for James I loved; Chapter 4 has a great toy train one on pg. 25 of wtg. ~ You play in many beautiful and eerie, outdoor locations. You don't just ramble around inside the hotel rooms. One fear was loneliness. "Mountain Spiral Road" just nailed that feeling. ~ Jump scares: I LOVED these animations! Most were in the demo but they did continue right on into the bonus play. Whoever did the animation for these....just perfectly done!!! You got me, more than once! ~ RE: MAP- I didn't find this map all that easy to read quickly so I used the portal hint and the strategy guide instead if needed. FAVORITE CHAPTER is #3 James’s chapter. I am such a fan of the handsome James and it was fun to see him again. We get to revisit a pinch of some prior HH in his chapter. The Axiom Butcher, Death Sentence, & The Phoenix are the ones that readily come to mind. This game did not have replayable videos OR a diary, only a useless task list. I often play more than one game at once and one or the other of these things is so helpful. It was missed. IF YOU LIKED THIS GAME HERE ARE SOME OTHER GREAT GAMES I'VE PLAYED HERE LIKE IT: 1. Harrowed Halls: Lakeview Lane (has keys for locked fear doors too). 2. Sable Maze: 12 Fears (ea. chapter was a fear here too). 3. Bonfire Stories #1 The Gravedigger: (I had just finished the CE to Bonfire when I bought this HH I kept forgetting I was in a different game. It has the same colors palette & great play/story.) RE: CE VERSION: For anyone who cares: I did a much more detailed review for the CE version so if you want to know more about the bonus play or CE content… I listed another review on its CE page outlining the bonus story & things to look for in the CE. Many thanks to BFG & Elephant Games for many hours of fun and a game I will replay for sure. You keep making them & I’ll keep buying them :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Haunted Hotel as it should be, Creep and Scary! Stellar! I'm not going to go into details about the game as charlene_lane and pennmom36 have already done a great job explaining everything technical about the game . I would just like to say that this game is Stellar! The graphics are beyond amazing, just the trees alone in the forest were a marvel to me, the faces appeared to be living and breathing, one was actually crying. The huge spider spinning a large ball of silk, although gross to me was still something to behold! The setting's change from time to time and the overall feel is dark, sinister and spooky. There were two times in the demo alone that scared the heck out of me, I just loved it! This is the Haunted Hotel done right, harkens back to the earlier games in this series but with much better graphics! Elephant Games, can be very proud of themselves they put out a stellar game! A lot of hard work went into this game and it shows. I think it's pretty darn close to perfect! My only critique would be if they have people in the games with you, which I love, they should find a way to make them actually work with you or help you along the way, that would be awesome. I know some who have played the complete CE edition of this game say it's a bit on the short side and that's probably true since I finished the demo with at least half the time still left but I do tend to skip mini games so maybe that's why. Even if it's a shorter game it's still well worth the full price or a free game coupon. Yes, I highly recommend this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Is My First Time With Haunted Hotel... and it was impressive in the demo, but still won't catch ME there. I found the game to be pretty easy but that didn't make a negative difference. The games and HOGs were very entertaining, especially enjoyed the HOGs which were of average challenge and a little different. The color and graphics were fantastic, perfect really, and the characters were very realistic. The story caught my attention right away, as other reviewers mentioned monsters, phobias and other horrors lurking throughout the game. Those things added to a haunted hotel, have to create a really creepy scenario! I did feel some uneasiness while playing because of a few things I saw, so I suspect a whole lot more in the game's entirety. I know it is only a game, but for the life of me, I don't understand how someone can walk into a place like that for ANY REASON! And I wanted to shake some sense into Steven Blake, like crazy, about his friend who kept repeating things like a broken robot!! Such informative reviews can be found under the CE Version, I think I will leave the details there for you to discover, as not much more to offer here with just the demo to go by. Don't know which version I will buy, but if a really good sale comes up, I would love to have the strategy guide. I'm looking forward to a chilling good time, whichever version I choose! Faith....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF....AND WHAT LURKS INSIDE THE FREEDOM HOTEL Welcome to the Freedom Hotel, a hotel that can grant your deepest desires, a hotel that can help you overcome your deepest fears. A hotel whose owner just might be the Ruler of Darkness, the Angel of Light, Belial in the flesh, the great Deceiver, Beelzebub, the almighty King of the bottomless pit! The cost of a room at this hotel isn't cheap, you could very well pay the ultimate price.....you're soul! To play this game, you'll have to sign a contract with the hotel's owner (no worries, you will be signing in as Stephen Blake searching for his mother Elizabeth and sister Kate, not your chosen screen name, just in case your darkest fear is the fear of signing away your soul, also known as thedevilmademedoitphobia) To try to make your stay more enjoyable, I suggest the CE version, which gives you the freedom to search for Ghosts of past hotel guests, Morphing Beyond objects and Morphing Phobias. The owner would appreciate your cooperation in returning his missing family Crest pieces as well, so if you come across any of these fragments, kindly assemble the crest and return the screensaver, no questions asked. Also for your entertainment, the hotel has arranged some wicked Hidden Object Scenes, prior guests say they are absolutely to die for! Former guest Mary had this to say: "I absolutely loved the HOP scene where I found objects that matched the silhouetted shapes of animal prints, one in particular appears to belong to some sort of beast!" One of our favorite hotel guests, James, had this to say about his experience: " I had no choice but to dig through a mucky fountain as I searched for items to save my life" One of our permanent guests Frank also adds: "The hotel's bar is in shambles, I had to move items just to find two of every ingredient so I could whip up my favorite spirit!" The puzzles are optional at this hotel, you won't be penalized for not participating in the game, however, it is strongly recommended that you give at least one of these games a try, if you want to have a more immersive experience: 1) Navigate through the hotel corridors to reach your mother using the hotel map to select the correct hallways and doorways. Caution, your deepest fears will come into play. 2) Place the flags according to the year they represent. 3) Find the correct path through the forest by rotating the compass until the correct group of prints that match the clues align, then choose the path the arrow points to. Please be cautious of things that go bump in the dark forest. 4) Place the owls in their correct color coded spots. (please ignore the fact that you just fed a spotted owl walnuts)...(because they don't eat nuts)...(they eat meat)....(but maybe he's just trying to overcome his fear of eating the same thing a squirrel does)...(....just saying....) 5) Guide the mouse through the labyrinth by using directional arrows to plot the course and clicking the start button to test your solution. (do you think mechanical mice have fears?)(they probably have a fear of everything bigger than themselves, which is almost everything, a.k.a. thewholeenchilada phobia) 6) Follow the recipe to brew a soothing cup of tea to give to James because he's supposedly freaking out... but he looks perfectly fine to me. ( I fear people who are freaking out but appear normal. whatsupwiththat phobia) HAUNTED HOTEL GAMES AVAILABLE: Haunted Hotel (SE only 11-16-11) Haunted Hotel II: Believe the Lies (SE only 11-16-11) Ancient Bane (5-29-14) Charles Dexter Ward (6-10-12) Death Sentence (12-18-14) Eclipse (10-10-13) Eternity (4-24-15) Lonely Dream (SE only 11-25-11) Personal Nightmare (5-25-17) Phoenix (8-20-15) Silent Waters (9-17-16) The Axiom Butcher (4-30-16) The Thirteenth (12-24-16) The X (11-12-15) The Collector's Edition has 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 4 Music Soundtracks, 15 Achievements, Morphing Phobias, 20 Morphing Beyond Objects, 20 Hotel Crest fragments to assemble a Screensaver, 12 replayable Mini Games, 16 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, sleep tight, enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Game Not bad. Mini-games could have been more challenging but the game itself kept me interested. Good voiceovers. Not 5-star quality but still a good 4 stars for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A One-Night Stay The Haunted Hotel series has certainly had its moments, and this game was an overall winner for me. Your character signs a contract with a very questionable hotelier in order to track down what happened to both your mother and your little sister way back in the day. Things won't be as simple as just finding them, naturally, and you'll have to rid more than one visitor of their darkest fears in order to confront and ultimately conquer your own. The game is divided into chapters, and gives you some winks to the past history of the series as you run into more than one familiar face. It's a nice treat for longtime players. The hidden object scenes are plentiful but rather easy on the whole, although they are divided into the traditional ones mixed with uncovering pairs. Minigames are just long enough and generally variations of things you've already done before. The game looks and sounds good, as is the norm for this series. Voice acting is above average and the development team did a nice job of keeping things moving. It might be a little too good, as the game is fairly short in the standard edition. It would not appear this series is ending any time soon, and if this is any example, that's not an issue for me. Overall this is a solid story and scary enough without being over the top. If you've played the series, you need to check it out. If not, you'll likely still enjoy a diversion through some dark material. Well done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Things That Go Bump Good game play with interesting hidden objects and mini-puzzles. As others have stated the game had good graphics. It had the typical options of game play and modes of travel (transporting).
