Cavemen Tales Collector's Edition is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An EXCELLENT game when played correctly. ***For others like me who are used to starting with TM games set to either medium or hard, that WILL NOT WORK with Cavemen Tales. It is literally impossible to complete levels on extreme, and sometimes impossible to complete levels on normal within the gold time UNTIL you get all of your workers upgraded! Start off in relaxed or normal and do NOT worry about medals until after you have played enough levels to upgrade your workers. THEN go back and replay levels to get gold and diamond medals*** Review: I am so glad that I did not give up on this game! I started off on Normal mode, expecting to make gold medals on my first run through most of the levels, but quickly got frustrated with the [seemingly] impossible difficulty that the game throws at you within the first 10 levels. I took a break, read a review that said to upgrade workers before trying for medals, and went back at it with the "just get through" mentality. I began to enjoy the game after that, and am currently working towards diamond medals on all levels with minimal frustration required. =) Fun Factor: I have never played a game with mechanics quite like this; I've not been drawn to the "collect rent" type TM games, so this was a good way for me to transition from Northern Tales/Viking Bros type TMs into the rent collector type. Once I realized that it is a game that is meant to be replayed (and re-replayed), I really enjoyed the mechanics. Visual/Sound Quality: While the music is nice, and the graphics are cute and appealingly unique, I felt like a few things were missing, especially for a CE version. The characters' dialog is not voiced, only text. Another big thing that I felt was missing was some form of animated cutscene to show the big events in the story; they are just presented through text and static character/background animations. They could have done so much with animations for those events and really made something spectacular, so it feels like a huge missed opportunity. Level of Challenge: This (along with the Ranch Rush games) is one of the few where I actually enjoy replaying the levels over and over to try for achievements. It does not feel like a slog because the levels change drastically when the workers are upgraded. It was frustrating at first, until I realized that the game was designed for immediate replay; then it became very enjoyable and fun. Storyline: Nothing particularly unique here, but the characters were interesting and I enjoyed reading their conversations; there are some particularly funny jokes (especially if you like puns), including a few that made me laugh aloud. In the CE version, they also include 15 levels (the main game is 40 levels) of what is effectively an epilogue to the main story. I love a good, thorough epilogue and a happy ending, and I got both!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging There really isn't a bad thing to say about this game. The graphics and game play are great. The only thing I have found surprising is that there isn't a typical walkthrough like most Collector Edition's have. Overall this is an A+ game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank goodness a TM building game! I am always so pleased when a TM game comes out and it is not just "run, pound, collect" over and over again. I am a big fan of these building games, Kingdom Tales, Royal Envoy, etc. and am so pleased that another one has finally come out! I just wish there were more of them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another nice building Tale This game is similar to Kingdom Tales (1 &2) and the earlier Fate of the Pharaoh. Which are games I have and enjoy. This time its a caveman theme. Like the earlier games there is a touch of humor to the storyline. Even though its something of a repeat, I like that its a game that includes building as well as road clearing. Building games are few and far between these days! Glad to see one so I will be buying. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yabba Dabba Doo..a quality TM I loved 'Kingdom', I loved 'Country' and now I love 'Caveman Tales'. It is exactly the same gameplay as the others in the series, build houses and production buildings, keep the houses fed, and healthy and don't forget to collect the taxes to do so. There are unlimited workers in the game and you will need that to be so as there are continual tasks and collections in order to meet the goals. The workers are a bit slow at first but as they gain experience they are 'promoted' and get faster. There are hidden treasure chests to find on each level, and honestly I am so busy with the gameplay I often forget to look. If you go back to get them you must totally repeat the level and they will be in a different place too. You only have to collect them for your achievements and score really, they don't hold up your game progress if you forget in your haste to finish the level. Hovering on the level will let you know if you missed it. Sometimes you can stumble on a gold nugget or if the children are around, free food from the berry bush. As in most resource TM's there are roads to clear, bridges to build, animals to shoo away and specific buildings for your production resources and your workers, shamans (healers and magic) and hunters. And your population must be kept to a happiness level with food and health. Sometimes you will be asked to collect a certain number of resources as a goal in addition to your usual tasks, or perhaps to build a festival site, or perform a ritual, all costing some of your rather novel 'stone coins' I don't usually like 'same games' but with this really top quality series and totally different setting I cant object. You get 15 extra levels on the CE, art, achievements.. and all the usual bells and whistles. It really is a personal choice whether you think it is worth the double price. A good sale will probably decide it for you lol. Because there is a relax, normal and expert mode there is something for everyone here including a very humorous storyline and dialogue. Try the demo and see how you go. I think it is a great game as far as novelty, strategy, speed, humour and level variety are concerned. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After the drought, there's relief Been a long time since we have had a new tm game and this was no disappointment. I love the humor in this and as JoyBelle says although it starts off slow once you upgrade your workers experience they get faster. For me this is a very enjoyable game.
