Customer Reviews
MiniChess by Kasparov is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Future Chess Grandmaster in the family The children's game teaches basic elements of chess. For $2.99, I'm enjoying it, too. Chess is a wonderful game of strategy, concentration and depth. I learned the game years ago and became pretty good at it. (No more!) Actually, I'm old enough to remember the 1972 televised World Chess Championship match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. It had move by move commentary and I was transfixed. Unfortunately, I didn't keep it up. Years later when I played against a computer, I was positively awful, after just few moves, checkmate! Disheartening. It's definitely not like riding a bicycle Today's special caught my eye. I played the trial and bought it without hesitation. The colors, characters and music are light and cheerful with lots of encouragement for young players (and me!).. You win stars to improve your castle BUT make no mistake, it's a game for children, maybe four years and up In the earliest very brief chapters you learn colors, shapes, vertical/horizontal. The sections are short and you move right along. You can see how it's cleverly teaching chess play later in the game. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a young (and up) child. It is an excellent chess primer Kids are sponges and you'd be surprised how quickly they'll pick up chess. Skill develops he more you play. Meanwhile I'm enjoying a $2.99 game which is reacquainting me with an old friend. It has whet my interest in more sophisticated lessons and game play..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Nephew and I love it! I frequently agree with Pennmom36, but not this time. Like Susie, I have never understood the game of Chess, but I have always wanted to learn it. I bought this for my Nephew, so he and I could learn to play chess this summer. He is six, and this is perfect for him. Cheddar is great. Love the colorful drawings. Also like the way the game is explained. Pretty much love everything about this game. It's fun, educational, and I'm finally learning how to play Chess! Yay! Thank you for this game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not discount this game I am 70 and I have never been able to understand the game of chess. This game gives me a hole new perspective on the game and I am beginning to understand it. Yes it is simple... REMEMBER, it is for very young children. It leads by simple steps, at first seemingly unrelated, into an understanding of the chessboard and the movements of the chess pieces. I am at the point that I will begin to play the game and this time I will understand what I am doing, hooray for me!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible!! Warning! Don't expect to play Chess until you go through a bunch of silly TODDLER games. Don't even really know how long you have to play in order to actually play CHESS because the trial ended. Really? Such a misleading title. THIS IS FOR CHILDREN! You will NOT play CHESS until you play all the Learning games which will take over an hour to do. Very misleading!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I'm Baffled I understand this is a game designed to teach kids the basics of playing chess, however, I just don't think it's fun. The beginning of the game starts out with very simple tasks with the host being a cartoon mouse named Cheddar. This includes selecting the correct shapes, squares, triangle etc. and choosing the correct directions, left, right, up down over and under. What I don't get about this game is what age group it's trying to target, I'd assume a 4-5 year old would be learning these basics, but why would a 4 or 5 year old want to play chess? Anyway, there are mini games to play such as I spy or catch the correct shapes, and you earn stars which can be used to design your own castle one section at a time. I'm impressed with with Grandmaster Gerry Kasparov who was the world chess champion from 1985-2000, so I'll just take his word for it that this will excite your young child enough to learn chess, who knows, they might be a Chess Champion some day too.
