Dark Romance: Hunchback of Notre-Dame is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just How Many Secrets Are There In Notre Dame? The Dark Romance series is not one of my favorites, but I decided to give this one a go anyway. This game tries to add a bit of history into the mix, but falls way short. You can choose how you play, casual, moderate or no help at all; or you can customize your settings to your liking. It has a location/ jump map which comes in handy since you go back & forth quite a bit. My biggest gripe about this game are the mini-games. Don't get me wrong, I usually like mini-games, but in this game some of them are very tedious, & instructions are somewhat vague in what you're supposed to be doing. The other thing that bugged me was after you skip the mini-game, It shows you the solution. After a couple of these, it got me mad because I felt that it was really slowing down the game. That's why I only gave it three stars in Fun Factor. On the plus side, the graphics are clear & the voice-overs were done well. It also gives you the opportunity to play a Match-3 game instead of HOP's. I like that in a game because it gives you a chance to mix it up a bit. The HOP's varied; list, silhouette, & so on. Nothing we haven't seen before. Overall, this is a good game. I can't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it. If you're a Pro, get the Collector's Edition. This would be a good game for beginner to intermediate. Happy Gaming!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A TERRIFIC GAME WITH SOME GREAT PUZZLES Dark Romance the Hunchback of Notre-Dame is a surprising game that has some good news and then some bad news. In the past year I have become very tired of HOPA games that have become heavy on the “P” while cutting down on the “HO” aspect of my favorite genre. Recent games have been top heavy with nothing more than puzzle after puzzle BUT the great news about The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is that the puzzles are terrific and seem to fit well into the storyline. I am not overly fond of finding more puzzles than HO scenes but I loved the puzzles this time around. The puzzles were not simply gratuitous and thrown in because some gamers have been very vocal about wanting more puzzles, but they actually made sense to have them in the game. Since I know there were so many eye-rolls, I would like to comment that I have read the original 1831 Victor Hugo classic. For all the purist I can only say that this is a game folks, and although the game takes far more than a few liberties with the original story IT IS STILL A GAME! When I first started playing the Hunchback of Notre-Dame I didn’t think it was a game I would like for several reasons, primarily the dialogue and voice acting were terrible and really put me off. Esmeralda who should have been portrayed as sensuous with a smoky voice sounded more like a squeaky child. The next thing that I didn’t care for is the soundtrack where the music is awful. This is the first time that I have ever turned off the music in a game and it is unfortunate because the sound is something that I feel adds to the entire experience of playing a HOPA game. I would be very surprised if some of the beta testers did not complain about the music when they did the survey but of course it would be too late to ditch it and begin again with different music. The HOS in the game did not really seem as good as they generally are in games from this developer. Domini is one of my favorite game developers and their HOPS have always been some of the best. However, I was not swept away by the HOS in this game primarily because of the style and that the items were very difficult to find in the first two HOS. There were a few scenes that I thoroughly enjoyed while others left me feeling quite ho-hum about the game. For a gamer who does not like puzzles I was surprised by how much I loved the puzzles in the Hunchback. This is a CE game where I actually look forward to replaying some of my favorites in the bonus content for the game. All in all even though the game is not a five-star game, I do feel that it deserves a solid four-star rating. Even though Dark Romance the Hunchback of Notre-Dame is one that I enjoyed, as always, please try the demo to see if this is the game for you. Happy gaming!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from DO FERRETS HAVE POCKETS? They had me until Bertha the talking ferret from a different series made his appearance. Every time I got myself into a little predicament he would show up to hand me a much-needed inventory item before scurrying away. I'm more curious as to where he was keeping these items than the fact that he could talk! Nothing like a few dead animal carcasses and a live ferret chained up to get you in the mood for the first HO scene right? I wasn't really impressed with the Hidden Object Scenes which were far too simplistic. Finding Items to give to the right person=can't make a mistake it won't let you, taking items off a shelf and placing them into the scene=how could you not know where they go because it's so obvious, and the usual Silhouetted Shape finds, Keywords in Sentence etc. They do give you the option to play a Match 3 game but it's not a very fun Match 3 game. The Mini-Games are decent and as usual, can be completed in an Easy or Hard Difficulty Mode. Some of the puzzles are quite lengthy and complex which is how I prefer them. Below are brief descriptions of some of my favorites in this game: 1-Outline squares on a grid w/ the correct number of connections. 2-Connect pairs of symbols w/o intersecting lines. 3-Use directional arrows to move bells to their matching colored slots. 4-Push tokens to their matching slots using arrows on columns and rows. 5-Select center buttons to rotate tiles and arrow buttons to move tiles between circles. The Collector's Edition version has 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 32 Movie Video Cutscenes, 18 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 re-playable Mini-Games, 33 Achievements to earn, 15 Esmeralda's Diary Pages, 15 Tarot Cards, 15 Boudoir Room Dresses to purchase with 70 Collectible Golden Bracelets, Missing Journal Notes to find, 3 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.
