Secret City: Chalk of Fate Collector's Edition is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Community Service for you lady! Some of the reviewers were not happy with the simplicity or lack of challenge in this game. That's exactly why I liked it. Sometimes it's nice to find a relaxing game. I don't like puzzles but I found that I breezed right through most of them AND I found all the collectibles. If you are a beginner or just don't feel like taxing your brain and eyes this is the game for you BUT try before you buy, as always.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's no secret, I loved this game! Domini Games' developers did it again! Great game! I just finished the CE version and it was wonderful! I love these developers' game strategy and creativity. The hidden object scenes were interactive and very clever and you had the option to play the match-three game as an alternative. The puzzles and minigames were fun, not difficult really but there were a few that were thought-provoking and required patience. The storyline was great; and, as always, really beautiful graphics; the voiceovers were very good; same with the music. I loved searching for the statuettes, coins, and pictures in the Main and Bonus games. There was a nice variety of things to do which is what I look forward to in a good game. The game flow was spot on for me. The map and hint buttons were great. I highly recommend this game. My kind of game but it may or may not be yours; just try the demo to get the feel of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition To Secret City Collection. After reading most all of the reviews I'm happy to see that a lot of my Fellow Fishies are giving the same opinions I have.. This was not a grey matter stress-out but one that sneaks in some "thinkers" when you least expect them, like some of the HOG scenes where you click-click click & then whoa, where are these last few ? LOL. I liked this addition to the series and look forward to more. In my humble opinion the Devs. need an extra award to how many " Domini logos can we find : D This one is definitely getting a ***** 5 out of ***** 5 on my personal enjoy-ability list :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CHALK OF FATE IS AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO THE SECRET CITY SERIES Secret City Chalk of Fate is an excellent game. The Secret City series is one that I continue to enjoy as played through each of the previous games. I love the concept of a “secret city” hidden from the eyes of humans who live side by side with those hidden by magic. This developer continues to give us a lot of value for our gaming dollars as they present CE games that are filled with the extras that many have other developers have cut to the bare minimum. Chalk of Fate is not only filled with great extras, it has an entertaining storyline with gameplay that kept me playing for hours. There is a nice variety in the HOPS with some scenes being better than others. I am still a fan of the original list style but another favorite that is present in this game is where we find specific pattern parts that are hidden in a portrait. There are many other scenes I enjoyed but don’t want to spoil your enjoyment by telling you what you will find. At least for me, discovery is most of the fun in playing a game. Even though I don’t always enjoy puzzles, I am a fan of the puzzles this developer includes in its games. There was one puzzle that had very poor instructions and I skipped it because I didn’t know what I should do. The final solution still made no sense and I imagine that I might not be the only one to skip this puzzle. A well-planned storyline along with entertaining gameplay kept me involved until I finished the game. There are many times that I don’t finish a game until the next day, but Chalk of Fate held my attention until the end. I haven’t yet completed the bonus chapter but will get back to it sometime today. If you enjoyed the other games in the Secret City series, then you will most likely enjoy Chalk of Fate. As always, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Cluck For The Buck! I never feel slighted with a game from this developer. Domini Games has never failed to bring me a great adventure to embark upon. I love the Secret City series and I was looking forward to this new visit to the hidden cities and find out more about the Titans and the artifact. Great story ahead, I think! This is such a really good series, IMO. Everything was as wonderful as it was in the last installment. The graphics and scenes were very clear, not muddled with unnecessary distractions or weird colors. The scenes were full of interesting things that I love taking my time inspecting, the colors were rich and appropriate to the story. The characters in this series add that extra little punch for me and one of the reasons I tend to favor Secret City. The voice-overs are always excellent. 'Chalk of Fate" is smooth-running, no problems at all. Gadgets do not enhance a game for me at all, just have to use it and get over it. However, the gadgets in this series never seem to interrupt my train of thought or intrude on the fun like in 99% of the other games in which I find them. They aren't irritatingly overdone. That's a very good thing!! Many times, I do not purchase a game because it contains a gadget or silly helper. The HOPs and mini-games are always superb, lots of fun both easy and challenging. I like having the option of switching to easy on the games so I don't have to skip any if I get really stuck. I also enjoy trying the different difficulty modes. Domini Games brings us plenty of extras in their CEs and the bonus chapters are usually just as entertaining as the main story. Not just thrown in to lengthen the game. Plus it usually takes me quite a while to finish a Domini Game because it is so full of places to go, evil to conquer, things to collect, etc. And I typically just take it all in slowly. I love all the great features. One I really appreciate is the indicator bar in each scene containing a collectible. I just hate not finding them all. And what an abundance of Achievements we have here. Secret City always delivers quality entertainment and proves to be a smart purchase every time. Though I would like to include some more info in my review, it doesn't seem necessary anymore since other reviewers always give such lengthy and thorough descriptions. In all honesty, I don't read them anymore, so I can discover the story for myself. But they are awesome reviews and writing a good, really helpful review takes a lot of time. I think gamers' opinions are the backbone of success, the developers should seriously pay attention to these reviews. I definitely recommend "Chalk of Fate". Try the demo, see how you like it. The demos are so helpful in making a decision to purchase (at least for me), saves wasting $$. Have yet to get into the Bonus Chapter to see what my detective skills can accomplish with another baddie to defeat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ANOTHER SUCCESS FROM THE TITAN OF HOP GAMES! REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 40 pages (My time: 6 hours) MAIN GAME: Detective! Your next mission takes you to the Big Apple (New York City) to help safeguard the “Chalk of Fate.” This powerful artifact created the secret cities which loom beneath the surface of the mega-cities of the world. After it is stolen, you must track down the culprit behind the theft and discover this evildoer’s plans for the relic. Intrigue and surprises await as you battle an unlikely culprit who is out to awaken the Titans of old. This is another superb game within this series. Domini Games always provides more game for the money, providing extras no other developer provides, including the ability to play the game in a relaxed mode or in one which is a little more challenging. Most of the mini-games can be played in either an “easy” or “hard” mode which should satisfy most players. Domini Games is my favorite developer and this game is another example of gaming excellence! The story is well-written. It is a fast-paced game taking the player from New York City to the Alps in a quest to recover an ancient artifact. There are plenty of activities to keep the player engaged. There are three collectibles – morphing statues, pictures, and coins to purchase items for a gift shop. I found all easy to locate within the scenes. As in all their games, there is an indicator on the inventory bar which blinks when there is a collectible within the scene. This is a nice touch I wish more developers would employ within their games. There are seventeen (17) HOP scenes. All of them can be replayed. A Match-3 game can be played in lieu of the scenes. The scenes vary in style with some which are very creatively designed. Many of the HOP scenes contain from two to three scenes which must be switched to locate all the items. There are some with morphing objects. One of my favorites from this game involves a scene with a globe in which items which represent various countries must be placed in the proper location on this globe. The globe alternates between two sides of the world. There are twenty-three (23) mini-games. There are some fantastic mini-games within this game; however, only thirteen (13) can be replayed. I wish more of these mini-games were available to be replayed at the end of the game. Some are somewhat difficult in the “hard” mode and I, for one, would love to go back and play them without having to replay the entire game. BONUS CHAPTER: It is another story. Sakir has again engaged you, detective, to help retrieve an artifact, this time from his friend, Almerra. Save her from an evildoer, Ingvar, who wants this artifact to free his girlfriend, Olivia. It is a long chapter and worthy of a collector’s edition designation. There are five (5) HOP scenes and six (6) mini-games within the chapter. There are a couple of creatively designed HOP scenes. My favorite is one in which involves a search for animals by changing scenes using orbs of the sun, the moon, and a star. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 39 achievements. • Collect 65 coins to purchase items for a gift shop • Collect 15 pictures and 15 morphing statuettes • 15 wallpapers along with concept art, music and 27 cutscenes • Replay 17 HOP scenes and 13 mini-games SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: (E = Easy; H= Hard) A. E/H Switch puzzle. On a grid, switch arrow buttons so that a path is created to lead a balloon to its destination while avoiding obstacles within its path. B. E/H Assembly puzzle. Rotate 5 pairs of tumblers so when each pair is combined, the combination of symbols on each one creates symbols on a given diagram. The easy version has the player only rotating each of five tumblers until the correct symbol appears. C. E/H Connection puzzle. Rotate pipes in a water system to create a path for a magnet to reach a key. In the hard version, moving one pipe piece affects the others. D. E/H Connection puzzle. Connect lines between tokens with numbers on them so that each token has the same number of lines emanating from it as the number listed on the token.. The easy version has less tokens to connect BONUS CHAPTER: E. E/H Connection puzzle. Rotate 5 rings on a cryptex to create paths for 3 hooks to reach their matching slots on the other end. Each hook will go through individually. F. E/H Map puzzle. Move a token to an exit point by using directional arrows and setting the number of spaces to move it via a number wheel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NEW YORK CITY SURE HOLDS A LOT OF SECRETS I enjoyed this game more than the last Domini game with significant improvements in pace and originality. There are honestly not many big problems with this game and is overall a great game. As usual, I will organize my thoughts into a pros and cons list. Pros: - Beautiful graphics and audio with fun clickables in every scene - Plenty of actions to complete in each scene - Well varied Hidden object scenes including matching and finding the pattern - Solid pace throughout the game, not too slow - There is a easy/hard difficulty button within puzzles, so you can modify the puzzle challenges - Characters are very well animated - No annoying gadgets that impede gameplay Cons - Puzzles are not very original and majority of them are too easy even on hard difficulty - There is a lot of back and forth between areas which slows down the pace a lot - The story feels a lot like a wild goose chase as the antagonist throws in several obstacles to stop our progress - There are many repeated actions such as tying back curtains with rope or cutting glass with a ring which shows lack of creativity Remember, this is solely my opinion, so I always recommend to try the demo before buying!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice addition... Hello friends! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others. A new addition to this series! As always with this Developer, we have beautiful colors, very bright but not over powering. Graphics are quite good, even with the slight blur blurring when going in and out of close up scenes. This seems to be the norm for this Developer. Excellent animation, with eye and mouth movements and smooth body movements as well. Voices are age and character appropriate, when we have them, and we can click through dialog if we read faster than they speak without missing a clue or helpful item. Again, there was not a lot of character interaction. Music was okay, but just didn't seem to fit the game or what was happening at the time...it was just there. We had sound FX when we used or received an item, but not much else during the game, except the music. We had our "helpful" tattoo, but it wasn't used much yet. HOGs are varied and well done with silhouettes, highlighted words, place pieces in scene and interactive HOGs. Items are not difficult to find and the scenes are fairly clear. Don't know if we could switch to something else. I was so engrossed in the HOGs that I didn't even notice. I always demo in easy mode to get a feel for the game, and found the puzzles to be pretty simple, but I still had to think about how to complete a couple of them. No real challenge on easy mode. The hint system is very helpful. When we needed to transport to another location, the map opens and areas are clearly identified by picture and name. It also indicates where we may have missed a collectible. You can also choose not to use this helpful feature if you want even more challenge. This is one my all time favorite maps. Really like the collectibles in this series. We have 15 pictures, which are not difficult to find. You just have to remember to look for them. Then we get to find 65 coins to buy 14 items in the souvenir shop. These aren't difficult to find, but easy to overlook. Then we have the 15 morphing statuettes. Now, we have a real big difference between what I think a statuette is and what they think it is. These morph quickly and are very small. Most of the challenge is finding the collectibles. I really like this series and this addition is no exception. The story isn't anything new, but well done. We don't have much character interaction, but we are constantly on the move. I found in this one, that we didn't seem to do as much backtracking before we found and used items. Still, the story was easy to follow, but I must have missed something along the way. Not quite sure what the "chalk" is yet. That said, I have the need to play this one out. I think most all levels of players will find this one interesting. I gave it a 4.5. Yes, I am adding this one to my CE collection. As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Play on!
