Secret City: Chalk of Fate Collector's Edition is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Is this game for kindergardners? This game was so simple it took me less than three hours to complete. The puzzles had no challenge what so ever and took me no time to finish. The scenery is nice but the story is dull, hollow and really not worth the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What a disappointment I rarely write reviews, but I really wanted to warn folks about buying the whole game on this. I agree with others who said it was inconsistent at best. Seriously, every game the glasses get broken and have to be fixed. This time there is no fixing them, but WOW, there is an entirely different option? A tattoo? *eye roll* I am one who enjoys the bright, nearly cartoonish, colors of these games, so I will not ding them on that. But really, this is just not up to Domini's standards. Big Fish needs to stop forcing these developers to churn out a new game every 3 or 4 months.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Many Bugs The first bug was at the beginning, the second bugabout two frames in as you entered the mansion and then I gave up. The other thing is that no one proofread the sentences so I quit. I like this series, but this one is just a shame. Will not be purchasing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The New Car Crash - Failure to Vet Your Story! Another game in the Secret City series has landed, with as many confused moments as usual. Domini Games has once again failed to vet their story line. Confusion reigns supreme and I resent it! How hard is it to come up with a reasonable clear story – especially when you are custom designing the world you are placing it in? This newest SC game revolves around the Chalk of Fate, an artifact that was left by the Titans, who created all four of the magical peoples in the Secret Cities. Despite a premise so promising, you know how bad things are going to be when a home owner hands you a bottle of acid to open his padlock and chained back door! I hung on to the end of the Demo. The game has HOPs, puzzles, mini-games, and CE bling. There are collectible “statuettes,” which is a bit of a misnomer, as they are various object that turn into something else, not necessarily a statue. A couple of these items I came across did not turn into whatever, but were still the collectible statuettes, according to the game. (A cane/crutch that turned into a sword, for instance.) There is lots of over-colored artwork and so-so Vos, just a dearth of intelligent story telling. Please try the demo for yourself as I’m sure you have different criteria for choosing your games.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Same as it ever was. First of all, the chalk of fate? Good grief. Second, the palette gave me a headache. Real life doesn't look remotely like this. (Yes, I know it's a fantasy story. There are still real life elements that shouldn't look like someone colored them with Skittles.) Third, the back and forth fixing all the broken things is tired. Come up with something new, preferably something that actually requires neurons. Fourth, there are numerous genres of fiction besides fantasy. OMG, pick something else for a change. If your target audience was 10yo girls, you might have something with the saccharine fantasy. But we're adults. We'd like some more mature storylines with actual plot twists and a decent exposition. And after playing and reviewing half a dozen "recommended" and "high quality" games, I'm thoroughly depressed. Playing these games feels like getting a participating award, since no skill is required.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Even Close to a Good Game I rarely bother with writing a bad review on games as there are usually enough of them already to warn people not to buy, but as there are (inexplicably) some 5-star reviews, I want to put in my opinion as well. This is based on the demo only and I was actually happy when it ended before the promised 90 minutes. Aside from the cartoonish colors, which I'll just ignore, the completely weird gameplay had me almost amused at times. Sure, of course I'd keep the key to my boat in the fireplace, complete with a lit fire yet... And so on. The mini-games, which I had set on Hard, were juvenile at best. I see that other reviews reference some better puzzles so maybe the ones in the demo just happen to be the worst of the lot. If the demo is any indication of the challenge and fun factor to come, I would have to give this game a resounding "Don't Buy"...at least before you try.
