Living Legends Remastered: Ice Rose Collector's Edition is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Won Me Over This one won me over. There is the obvious objection that people who paid for the original are now required to pay again for the "remastered" version, and so the question is, would it be worth it? That's an awfully strong wind to try to walk against, and much to my surprise the answer to me seemed to be yes, this one is that much better. Player character is occupied with recovering her lover Edward from the clutches of the Ice Queen, an endeavor that takes us through a fantasy world that seems familiar, but frankly much more colorful and detailed than before. Pros: Graphics are a major improvement, very good voice acting, atmosphere, especially the music, is immersive. Plot is straightforward but includes enough side characters and plots to keep interest level high. Game mechanics good and it's weighted more toward HO scenes than mini-games, which are on the whole good enough to stand on their own. Plenty of game play - that much is reminiscent of the Good Old Days of 2012 - and bonus ice squirrels that are absurdly addicting. Cons: Both main and bonus game are inconclusive, the former so much so that SE players may feel a bit cheated, and both of them pointing clearly toward some sort of sequel. Our love Edward hasn't really much of a function but damsel-in-distress in reverse and strikes me as a bit of a dim bulb not entirely worth the trouble, but such is love. Bonus game: It's actually the coda to the main game. Edward is still enchanted and must be freed by an additional round of daring-do. A couple of good puzzles in this one. Overall, I stated that yes, this one is that much better, and it was, but I certainly wouldn't want this to become a new direction, new lamps for old, because all of them cannot and won't be. This time, though, the eight years between have accorded us a startling improvement in graphics and smoothness of play. For me that and the length of the game tipped it into the five-star category.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Remember When.... this excellent game was released in 2012. It was a big deal for me because I played only Match 3 games up til then. Ice Rose got me hooked on HOPAs! A friend and I played together on our PCs, oohing and aahing at all the beautiful scenes. All the HOPs and puzzles were great fun and I loved the story. It was replayed a few times but it began running poorly a couple of yrs after Windows 10 reared its ugly head. So today, what an extreme surprise to see the Remastered Version. I am excited about all the additional extras, the blessing of NO GADGETS and improvements that will make the game even more fun. There are voice-overs now, minimal text, just-right challenge and we again have the very fine journal that keeps just about everything you need right at your fingertips! A good interactive map is now included, too. And for me, at least, just the right amount of HOPs and games. Lots of changes and additions to "Ice Rose" has made it a guilt-free purchase. The graphics, colors, scenery and characters are wonderful. I have completed 5 chapters which have been delightful and there have been no tech issues interrupting the fun. Ice Rose is a perfect example of how great our older games were, compared to the cookie-cutter games with shallow storylines, bland characters and scant CE content of today. Remasters can be a great thing sometimes. But on the other hand, I hope it doesn't become a replacement for games that would be completely new to us that are fresh off the drawing table. Hopefully developers of all game genres will hear us begging for new, quality games. Not a bunch of remasters, never-ending sequels and series that never include changes in their new releases. I loved playing the original "Ice Rose" and I'm loving it all over again. If you forgot the old version or you are new to Big Fish Games, give it a whirl. In my opinion it is an entertaining, beautiful game and worth trying the demo at least for 90 min of the good old days. It is playable for all skill levels with its addition of the custom mode. It contains nothing objectionable regarding subject matter and visuals. I'm glad its back and I am now gleefully making my way to the Bonus Chapter, though it will be a long journey. I play veeery slooowly!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A GREAT NEW LOOK FOR ONE OF MY FAVORITE OLDER GAMES. I HOPE THERE ARE MORE REMASTERED OLDIES IN THE FUTURE! Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is as the title indicates the remastered release of the original Ice Rose that was released in March of 2012. I loved the original game but since I spent $13.99 for it back in 2012, there was part of my brain that screamed why should I have to shell out another $14 to basically play a game that I already own? Well, the answer is that the remastered game has so many changes and additions that it is certainly worth the cost! Those who own the original game will definitely notice the difference when they play the demo. Your beloved Edward, a novelist, has been researching material for his new book when he comes across information that indicates a terrible tragedy took place in the village of Rosemount. He has left you with a message telling you that he has now gone to Rosemount to find more information. Of course, you set off to find him as soon as you receive his message. When you arrive in Rosemount you find a city that is literally a frozen wasteland. As you move forward in the game you will meet ghosts who will ask you for their help and when you complete their task you will learn more information about the story as the city begins to thaw. The remastered release now has characters with voiceovers and lip movements and there is no need for all the text that was found in the original game. Thankfully, the remastered Ice Rose still has my beloved Journal. I loved the days when all games had a Journal or Diary that told the story as the game progressed. Not only did it tell the story, it contained important clues that would be used later in the game. There is now a custom mode of gameplay and an interactive map. I’m not sure if there was a bonus chapter in the original game but I don’t remember the collectible squirrels or the morphing objects that are now present in the remastered release. The graphics are great and portray the frozen land that is under the spell of the Ice Queen. Overall, the entire game has a fresh new look. In Remastered Ice Rose some of the HOS still have those small and difficult to spot HO items. Normally I am someone who hates to use the dreaded hint button and I had to use it 3 times in the first scene. Overall, the HOS are very good, but some do seem a bit dark. The mini-games or puzzles are not brain drain difficult nor are all of them easy to solve but all of them are doable with some taking a bit longer to solve. The original Living Legends Ice Rose was a game that I loved and it was sad that I was unable to play it on my Windows 10 laptops, thus another reason I was happy to pay for the new and improved game. I own all of the other Living Legends games but when there was a two-year wait before the Crystal Tear was released in January 2020, I was thinking that the series had been abandoned. Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is a beautiful game that has a wonderful storyline coupled with great HOS and mini-games. If you are like me and keep wishing that some of the newer cookie-cutter games were like those older games that we all seemed to love, then Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is an introductory look at what will hopefully be a trend as more older games are remastered and updated to play on newer laptops with Windows 10 as well as on MAC. Since I already enjoyed the original Living Legends Ice Rose, I knew that I would purchase this remastered edition as soon as I could hit that buy button. Although I think the remastered game is better than the original Ice Rose, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy playing Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice remake I did purchase the original game, but, as I purchase a lot of games and don't have a lot of time to play, I found that I did not as yet play this game. I have them all written down and which I have played. I installed both games and clearly the new remastered one is more enjoyable. It adds much to the game that it has voice-overs, and I always love an interactive map, which the new one has. That eliminates a lot of searching for places you had been to but can't find when you try to find them again. I know it is buying twice, but I had a coupon to make it cheaper and decided it was a better game and I wanted to play it, so I got it. I am not sorry. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you loved this game when it first came out.... I admit I never do rating for Big Fish Games but I use them to help me decide on what games I purchase. I decided it was time to change that. First, I have not played this game to the end. I did beta test this games and was totally impressed. This has always been a game I enjoyed playing over again. When I down loaded the Beta I was happy to see that it was actually the same game but they added all the bells and whistles that were not available at the time of it's original released. I have waited eagerly since the beta for this games re-release. Fortunately the wait wasn't long and I'm happy to recommend this game. It really is an update to the HO games that made us continue to come back for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very fun, and I had not played the original. Buying it, because I'm intrigued by the story, and I'm having fun whilst playing! It's as good as any "modern" game, yet it still have a journal to read (nice holdover) and the characters' animations are well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this game! I already bought the other one, but I wanted to play this one and had to re-buy and pay the 13.99. It was great, Im happy I played it, the remaster is far better than the first one! I dont like to give the game out or spoil it so I will say what they did adding things changing things the puzzles were awesome, and so were the characters, and all in all I enjoyed it and do not regret buying the remastered one because it was fantastic!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not good enough Welcome back to the past when scenes were drawn for topography and not just for actions, when every HOP had scissors to find, where you could keep your knife for the duration and not looking for a new one in every location and where some logic still prevailed! I enjoyed this trip down a memory lane, but I have a suggestion: clearly developers these days are desperately looking for good plots, so don’t do remasterings, do remakes. Start with the first two Ravenhurst games for example, or do a totally new Dire Grove (an unsurpassed success so far). I am sure that every one of us has some games he/she would like to be repeated with all modern bits and pieces. My main objection to the remastered Ice rose: why on earth did I have to pay twice? It should’ve been a half for those of us who purchased the original in the past. And in case other developers will try to capitalise on this idea – don’t. Once is OK, but parts of this game still felt terribly outdated. As to should you buy it or not, depends on how much time you have on your hands: I am sitting in a lock-down so any alleviation of this monotonous existence is welcome. My advice: at least try.
