Academy of Magic: The Great Dark Wizard's Curse is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OKAY, BIGGER TILES, & A FEW MINOR LEVEL CHANGES DESERVES A COUPLE EXTRA STARS Well, folks, you know how I appreciate it when a developer makes an effort to change things up a bit and it looks like they have finally decided to implement a few minor changes. They have made the tiles bigger and less similar to each other so they can easily be differentiated, and they have changed the level layouts slightly (at least the order presented) other than that, everything else is still basically the same with the same features and game mechanics. (Homework Assignment: play other developers M3 games for basic ideas then add your own twist to those basic features) I only saw an option to play in a Relaxed Untimed Mode in this Swap type Match 3 game, where you swap tiles to make matches of at least 3 identical elements. You must make matches over all of the Gold Cells (and eventually Red cells that turn Gold) and make the required number of matches of each Element shown to the right of the screen. Elements inside of Bubbles, Morph (I think they appear when you make large matches, but I'm not positive) which allows you to pop the bubble when the desired element appears inside the bubble. The Chained Tiled has been replaced with Spider Webs although I'm not really sure what spiderwebs and elves have to do with each other? But I did I ask for something different and if spiderwebs are what they chose, then spiderwebs it is! You must purchase all 4 World Upgrades to progress to the next Chapter, with the Stars you earn playing the Match 3 levels. The upgrades still aren't very interesting nor are they colorful. It completely defeats the purpose of an upgrade, the purpose is to keep the player enthusiastic about playing so they want to finish building the kingdom, not inconvenienced by the annoyance. Large Matches allow you to use any of the Power-ups once the Mana Meter recharges. The larger the match, the quicker the Mana Meter fills. Once the Mana meter fills, Power-ups become available (included as you progress with upgrades) Here's a list of the available Power-ups (they are the same power-ups that do the same things in ALL of the Match 3 games by this developer, but you probably already knew that too!): *Ancient Axe destroys a single tile and/or chain. *Magic Cauldron: destroys a 2 x 2 range of tiles cells/chains. *Wizard's Staff: destroys 5 horizontal tiles. *Fire Staff: destroys 5 vertical tiles *Wand: destroys an entire horizontal row, cells/chains. *Advanced Wand: destroys an entire vertical line, cells/chains. *Crystal Amulet: destroys entire vertical & horizontal lines. *Denis's Satchel: destroys all of the same tiles. *Stone of Confusion: Shuffles the entire board. *Stone of Destruction: destroys 20 random tiles. *Ancient Bomb: destroys a 9 x 9 cluster of tiles, cells/chains. *Ancient Tome: destroys a 12 x 12 range of tiles by: e-Fun-Soft Games

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well they are trying..just off the mark slightly still Usually when I hear the words 'stage complete' I let our a groan like Lurch from the Addams Family. This time however I could see the developers had tried to improve some aspects of their 'same games' mostly produced. The tiles are large and colourful and I found them a delight to play. The bonus choices came quite quickly..you buy them with your stars, no on screen bonuses for large matches. There is also a magic school to rebuild and find various 'seals' to fix the woes of the magic world. I nearly bought this as it was relaxing and pleasant.. I saw webs but no spiders..I enjoyed the morphing tiles to suit.. I even liked the sounds..but then I realised..NO TIMER choice! There isn't one, and I neither play TM's or M3's without at least some form of challenge to defeat. In fact the longer I took to do a level the more stars I seemed to get. So if you were going to choose relaxed as an option or for young children just restoring a school and saving the world this game is very pleasant. For someone who enjoys having a timer to conquer..nope! For that non option this game lost a star and a purchase from me. So different strokes for different folks.. but not for me. I cant do the 'recommend' as I recommend it if you meet the 'relaxed' criteria needs, but not for anyone else. Cheers

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too Easy With no challenge it becomes boring quickly. Even with the few changes that I see, it still isn't enough to upgrade the quality of this Match 3. There is no reason to purchase if everything is basically the same as this dev's other games. I do like the larger tiles, the colors are okay, but the features are stuck in a rut. I don't know why some dev's are so reluctant to make changes that will improve the quality and fun, and sell more games. Everyone would be happier! But alas, it seems things will just remain the same old, same old. I did play most of the demo. I think it is a great game for beginners and it has a relaxing feel to it. But it definitely needs some major tweaking to make it challenging and exciting. The storyline was okay and music wasn't bad. Just not the kind of entertainment I look for in Match 3 games. Remember all the great ones we had from years ago? There are so many excellent Match 3s out there. I wonder why Big Fish doesn't make them available to us?? We are in short supply of this fun genre. Although I enjoy them on other sites, I absolutely will not buy them unless offered by Big Fish. So, how about it, BF? Think you could help us out here?!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No challenge Played to the end of the trial. I love the story line it is great. Love the characters. There is no level of hardness to choose from. It is a relaxing game. Music is nice, but I like challenge with the levels. I like to be timed as it makes a challenge. This is a great game for someone who just wants to relax. I chose beginner level on the question skill level because there is no other.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from H. Potter(ish) Match - 3 I almost gave this 4 stars but settled on 3. For casual gamers it's nice. There aren't any difficulty settings such as limited moves or time so each level is completed without fail. For this game it's not necessarily a bad thing although I do like somewhat of a challenge. The repetitive music is nice and doesn't get under my skin. The visuals are colorful and comfortable. Another aspect I'm on the limb with is the purchased upgrades. Just a little into chapter 2 I'd already purchased the most powerful one which pretty much finishes the levels in one fail swoop, a dragon literally comes down and blasts pretty much everything. If I use any other upgrade it erases the energy buildup of all other power-ups, so I basically just play until that one is ready and finish the level with it. I'm still playing it so I'm not totally bored but whether or not I complete the game is yet to be seen. I'm about 40% through it. The story's simple and charming, the characters look like they were drawn by a college student, and the built areas are just different enough where they won't get sued, for example the arena has little wizards on brooms but the stands and enclosed areas resemble a Roman coliseum.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish I had not wasted my Money The game play was great at start but later in the game it was near impossible to get any where the mana level would fill but not provide any tools restarts only brought up the same screens Level 3-14 was as far as I got and for my sanity I had to stop. Really not a game up to Big Fish standards in my view.with money not well spent I have bought many games with Big Fish and this left me disappointed and

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't care for this game This game became very repetitious and very irritating after a short time. Graphics were just ok. Glad there was a free trial.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A Disappointing Game I am not going to continue playing this game. After buying it, I discovered that it is very boring. The music is unpleasant. It is not a fun game for my level. Every time I go up to the next level, I think I will get better play but the challenge never changes. The storyline is OK for kids.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Where do I start. I really tried to enjoy this but These games are very similar time after time after time but that is not the biggest complaint for me. For a start although there is an on off for the tutorial it is non existent anyway and unless you know your way around this developers games you will struggle. You don't get bonuses for matching 4 plus tiles you get mana that takes an extremely long time to fill up in fact in my whole demo I did not fill my mana once. I have played other games by this Dev and the mana fills much quicker than this. You need to purchase the bonuses in the store but beware there, as it starts with purchasing gates , labs etc that waste money that you need on your bonuses which can be found but it is not easy. The game play is very clunky, not smooth at all. I like to be able to match 5 and get a bomb or something, not with this game. If this was a one off then fine but its not, it is one of many. All working the same. To get the most out of the demo to enable you to experience as much match 3 action as possible skip all the talk, avoid changing Dennis's clothes , the only thing that does is cut down on your demo time. If you have never played any of this Devs games before then you may just enjoy it but its hardly inspiring. We all have different tastes so don't take my word for it.Try it and see what you think
