Maze: Sinister Play Collector's Edition is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scary Game - Loved Every Minute Scary yes, horrific no, gory no. I found the storyline to be well done and able to drive the game along at a cracking pace. What happened next? What happened after that? Puzzles were challenging without being mindbending and rewarding once solved. The sound and music were very atmospheric and complemented the storyline, especially during the battles with the monsters. You'll sleep at night. Or will you ... ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Good As Subject 360 I hardly ever write reviews, but I had to review this game. Like most other reviewers, I thought the devs hit it out of the park with Subject 360. I think they just did it again with Sinister Play. I was skeptical of reviewers who talked about jump scares in the game, and thought, "Yeah, right. I don't jump at games." But guess what? They got me more than once, and I had to laugh and admit, okay, you did it. I also don't like lots of blood and gore or creepy monsters. In fact, I just finished a survey telling BF exactly that. This game has more than its share of blood, gore, and creepy monsters, and I still loved it. I had to make myself stop at the end of the second part just so I wouldn't finish it all in one sitting--wanted to prolong the enjoyment. If you don't care about collectibles and morphs, or all the art/music/screensaver stuff, as I usually don't, you can wait for the SE. But the bonus chapter actually finishes the story, so I'd recommend you buy the CE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the horror I search for games that have horror in them. The scarier the better. This one has it all. Blood, gore and monsters that jump out at you. Love the put on the glasses bit in one of the story lines. Overall a great game!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superbly creepy I hardly ever write reviews but just had to after playing this game. WOW it was good. I was a little sceptical about all the warnings at the beginning but there were times during this game when it really made me jump ! Creepy kids, scary axe murderers, an evil clown - it had it all - plus engaging characters and a superb story. I thoroughly recommend this game and the bonus game. I didn't want it to end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WELCOME BACK MAD HEAD GAMES REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS What a fantastic creepy game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You play Sophie and, along with your friends Dario and JP, enter into each other's horror stories. There is: * Voiceovers (with dialogue); * 5 modes of play (from Easy to Custom); * Interactive map; * 11 Achievements; * 19 replayable HOPs; * Find 28 morphs and 28 collectables in game and bonus. The graphics are stunning - each scene is very well defined and items that you need are easy to see and grab. The music is haunting and scary. The hidden object games are mainly straightforward, silhouette, putting items back and finding a certain amount of one specific item. I enjoyed doing these. Keep an eye out for the morph in the HOPs - these have a good challenge to them. You can replay these in the Extras to get 100% and get three stars. The mini-games are fun to do and there are a good variety. These are not too hard but at the same time they do get you thinking. I played them all and found I wanted more to play - they are addictive. There is one morph and one collectible to find in each scene. I found the collectibles easily enough, but the morphs had a good challenge to them. I always do these first when I enter each scene in case I get distracted. However, if you miss any or want to do them later, then you can do these in the Extras. Once the game has finished and you have collected all the morphs and collectibles, you have three jigsaw puzzles to do. These are quite big, and each puzzle will take an extra 5 minutes or so to do. Afterwards you can do the Ultimate HOP. I love doing these. I always think that this is the dessert after the main meal. Its a nice way to finish off. Overall, a fabulous game. Well done devs. Now I can't wait until the next one. Keep them coming. Definitely comes recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Play Nice, Kids Oh, this one was good. Madhead have outdone themselves this time. I enjoy the Creepy Little Kids trope a great deal and especially this pair of cute twins with glowing eyes who are, at least, well-dressed and courteous while they're trying to kill us. "We" are Sophie and her two friends Dario and TJ, off on a vacation with a horror story apiece to tell the others, and wouldn't you know it? Their stories end up telling them. Buckle up players, you're in for a ride! Pros: The atmosphere of this game is deliciously spooky, with some genuine jump-scares that seem to come when we're least expecting them. It's beautifully drawn, with excellent voice acting and marvelous atmospheric music by Jovian Audio. HO scenes are very different and are beautifully presented, and there are morphs both inside the HOS and out, so you have to stay on your toes. Mini-games give us an Easy and Hard mode and the latter can be very challenging indeed. Some nice bonus twists - Dario's scene-switching glasses took the creep factor up by a lot more than a simple gadget could. There's a very sick world lurking underneath the real one, and it's only a pair of glasses away. Cons: One minor gripe is the best I can do - the background sounds have that thrice-cursed barking dog in them occasionally, which is officially one of the most annoying sounds ever (the other is a crying baby which thankfully we are spared). Not a Con really, but do be aware that this one isn't for kids, no joke. Writing: Deserves its own section out of pure excellence. Not even the plot is what it appears. Yes, we have the classic three stories from three narrators structure...or do we? Three escapes, three happy endings...or not? And a wonderful reveal at the end which was the very last thing I was expecting. Game writing this good is a high art and deserves a round of applause. And just when you thought they were through messing with your head, there's the: Bonus Game: Anything specific would be a spoiler. Let's just say if you thought the ending to the main game was great, this tops it. I'd highly recommend the CE for the bonus game alone. Overall, a true tour de force and the best game of the year for me. It's been a long wait for one this good and it was worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The warning at the beginning of the game piqued my interest! Okay, so at the start of the game it reads as follows: Warning: “This game has elements of psychological horror that some may find distressing. It is not for the faint of heart.” Does covering your eyes and peeking a little count as being faint of heart? LOL! I did let out a holler once or twice but this game was not as scary as the one I played where the little girl reminded me of the spooky girl in The Grudge. I can’t say that I’m psychologically horrified by this game, but the doll with nails reminded me of Child’s Play; the spooky twins (male and female) reminded me of the kids In the Village of the Damned; and later, there is a clown who could rival the clown in the movie, IT. How clever are these devs?! Amazing! And here, you’re trying to save your best friends and let me tell you, icky things happen to you, too. Oh, and there’s the oozing black liquid dripping from the ceilings, and then there’s the older woman ghost who is literally on fire! Great balls of fire! Mad Head devs are clever, crazy, and very humorous. I do read the credits at the end and there is quite a team of talented people who pulled together this great game.. I’m not a fan of horror games but this was unusual. The storyline was my favorite and I was so engrossed with that and performing the tasks on hand that I was forgetting about the Gemini sign collections in the scenes as well as the morphing objects. There is one morphing object in each hidden object scene, by the way. I got all of those. I missed 5 of the Gemini signs and 5 of the morphing items in the regular scenes but you can retrieve those when you play the Bonus Game. They even give you a jigsaw puzzle at the end, too, which is well done really. I’m not a fan of jigsaw puzzles either because they bore me but in this case it was very nice structured. I loved the parts where you have a choice of what action to take when something is about to happen basically to you. As an example: Should I take the key or should I fight the monster! Great idea! You will have a lot to do and to be honest, some of the logic or strategy is elementary and borderline ridiculous but I guess that’s what makes the game more challenging. Many of the objects were hard to find in the hidden object scenes. Esthetically, I prefer beautiful scenery to grudge and gore and gloom. But the graphics were amazing and the special effects and sound effects were cool. The voiceovers were great! The hint and map buttons were very good, and you have these special glasses you will need to use later on in a couple of scenes or two whereby you will enter the evil-dark scene and then back to the normal view. Pretty cool! I prefer scenes of beautiful homes--cozy and elegant ones, with stunning landscaping, and you won’t see that here but again the artwork was pretty cool. Rainy days or snowy days doesn’t matter. In this game, the artists captured the filth and grime and grudge in practically each scene. Quite frankly, I’m glad I completed the entire CE game! I highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great addition to the Maze series. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It was very refreshing to play a game with some original ideas. Not a single broken zipper in sight! I loved the 3 separate stories and the various decision options on offer. The bonus game was a good length and tied in beautifully with the main game. This is a return to good form for Mad Head. I hope they keep it up!
