Paranormal Files: The Trap of Truth Collector's Edition is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this series Finally a wonderful HOP game!! I've been digging deeper and deeper in my played gamed vault for games to play. I was so happy to see this one today. I'm only reviewing a short part of the game, since that's all I have played so far. Quite a few collectibles and morphs, which are fun to find. I did not notice too many HOS. The puzzles I encountered were good and fun. Others have described what the game is about, and they do a wonderful job of it, so I'll skip that. I can't wait to keep playing later this evening. This is a definite buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eternal Punishment. A Frightful Thought! Lies always lead to consequences and this story is a good example. Rick certainly has his hands full this time as he tries to save Rachel and several others from a horrible fate. I love this story, it is quite different than others in the series and the game is proving to be the best, in my opinion. The subject matter gives you something to really think about. A good break from the usual fare in Rick's cases. I've played just 2-1/2 hrs so far and I find the game very entertaining, There's been nothing that I don't like. The excellent quality of the graphics enhances every colorful scene. I always take my time inspecting everything, so the graphics are important to me. The character art is top-notch as well which makes the game even more appealing. There is a moderate number of HOPs and puzzles and that works for me because I always prefer more story, less fillers. I am a mega HOPs fan and find the scenes in this game unique and very creative. The quality of the HOPs makes up for the quantity, in this case. Even the puzzles are fun and some are designed in the fair/arcade style, making them different and more enjoyable. Tasks and travel are not presenting any headaches. The collectibles include morphs, jigsaw pieces and statues, they are somewhat easy to spot, and there is a Secret Room. I like that the achievements are included, creating an additional little challenge. The game moves along quite easily and the challenge is average, choose the difficulty level from the 4 game modes. I like trying each one and in most games I usually find not much difference in difficulty, unless playing in Custom Mode. I think this game is suitable for all, but the storyline might not appeal to younger players. It is an easy game (for me) and fun, no monstrous characters. no evil spirits. The atmosphere has a slight carnival feel to it and the story is interesting, no signs of fizzling out midway like many games do. As far as the CE is concerned, I would've waited for the SE on this one since the collectibles fell a little short, but the storyline hastened my decision to buy. Try the demo and maybe you'll be inspired to continue on, attempting to save 4 liars, each with their own story, from a bleak destiny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TRAPPED IN A WEB OF LIES REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 4 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 40 pages STORY: Will those little white lies get you into trouble? Better watch out! The God of Truth may trap you in those lies and you may never escape. Join Rick Rogers as he tries to save four liars from being trapped for eternity, including his own girlfriend, Rachel. All these liars attended the United Paranormal Fair and have been trapped within the worlds of their lying by the God of Truth. Hopefully, the wit and wisdom from Rick can assuage this by-the-book god. OPINION: I love this series and found this game the best one in the series to date! If you lie – you eventually get caught, which is what happens in this game. Each liar gets trapped within a web of his lies and Rick must discover the lies to open the portal to their entrapment and battle to free them. There are four (4) stories, and you have a choice in the order in which you deal with two of the characters. The scenes reflect a carnival atmosphere and many of the activities are based on arcade games. I found it a fun, easy/breezy game and feel it is a great game for the whole family. However, some might find the bonus chapter a little unsettling with the creepy clowns and dolls. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 22 achievements. • Collect 24 morphing objects, 12 statues, 25 puzzle pieces to create a puzzle in the Secret Room • 8 wallpapers along with concept art, music, and video sequences • Replay 15 HOP scenes and 12 Puzzles BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. Join the characters from the main game as they play “Face Your Fears.” With the throw of the dice, find yourself in a nightmare world of clowns, creepy dolls, dangling roller coasters as you help each of four characters battle their fears. I loved this chapter. I found it a nice addition to the game and worthy of the designation of a collector’s edition. There are four (4) HOP scenes with an additional four (4) mini-HOP scenes with a small number of items to locate. There are six (6) puzzles in this chapter which I found thematic. HOP SCENES: There are fifteen (15) HOP scenes. All can be replayed at the end of the game. I am not a big fan of HOP scenes, but I enjoyed playing these. There are not as many as in other games, but I feel these are stellar and creatively designed. They are mainly lists of items, matching, and silhouette; however, there are creative elements within them which makes each one unique. There are some beautifully illustrated HOP scenes in this game. PUZZLES: I love the fact this developer calls these “puzzles” and not mini-games. There is no difference to me, and I always wonder why the term “mini-games” is used to describe puzzles. Many of the puzzles have the flair of arcade games at a fair. There are a few which I enjoyed because they are unique and not regurgitated ones seen in many HOPA games. My favorite is the pinball puzzle in which bumpers must be angled correctly for a ball to bounce its way to the exit. It is a fun puzzle and has two parts. SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO: A. Casual/Hard. Maze puzzle. Create a path to lead Rick through the fair in 9 steps. In the casual mode Rick moves one step at a time and in the hard mode Rick must plot his steps and check if they are correct 2X B. Shadow play. Choose the correct animal among 16 which is created by the shadow of a mechanical hand. Locate 8 animals. C. Escape puzzle. Choose a route at the right time to escape guards as you enter a fair. D. Sequence puzzle. Press on buttons in sequential numerical order by moving the sliders on 3 cylinders back and forth to display numbers through holes within in the cylinder. BONUS CHAPTER: E. Sequence puzzle. Place tokens on plug outlets in the proper order to make a flower grow. Each of the tokens is related to the others and causes some action upon the next one in the sequence. F. Pinball Puzzle. Move bumpers in a pinball machine to create angles so that when the “Start” button is pressed, a ball bumps off the bumpers and reaches the exit point. G. Sequence puzzle. Turn on all lights in a round string by pressing on them. Each light affects the others around it, turning them either on or off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice name Rick. One of the best games in a year or so I played. Different than most games but these guys do a good job. I like this series even though I'm not into the paranormal type games to much. Most try just to be scary which are boring to me but so far this series is well thought out with out trying to be a creep or gore fest. Thank you for that. I didn't have the problems as many seem to have in the bonus round so maybe they fixed it??? Not a short game like some recent games so good for the money I think. One of the better series in my mind but try the game or if you liked the other games in this Series it should be a game to get. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyed the game but.... I really enjoyed this game however when playing the bonus chapter I neglected to pick up a strange device and now it won't let me go back to that particular part to pick it up. It's so bloody annoying because now I have to play the whole game again to be able to finish the bonus chapter. I buy the collectors edition because of bonus chapters and stradegy guides so it's very annoying to not be able to finish the bonus. I noticed that someone elses review had the same issue but in a different spot. Please fix these issues!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really like the Paranormal games and Rick is a great character. I had a few issues with some of the puzzles, most notably the first puzzle where you had to choose items by pulling on the rope to search for them, the rope just wouldn't work so I had to skip it. There were a few others that had a glitch and it crashed when doing one of the puzzles in the bonus chapter and the HOS's weren't easy peazy, yayyyy! The glitches are the only reason for the one less star - we really need half star choices. Great story though, well thought out puzzles and The God of Truth was different - really liked Rick's perspective on Truth - personally thought it was very accurate. Truth in the eye of the beholder can be different for everyone, just because we can see the truth about someone does not mean they are able to see it yet. The Johari Window is a wonderful tool for seeking personal truth. Check it out BF, could be an idea for the next Paranormal Files. It did seem that some of the people in the credits on the developing team were originals for the MCF early games. Oh I wish BF would use their own team to dream up another MCF game - you have so much untapped talent in your stable and they it was BF that was the original developer for MCF. This game was interesting enough to keep me playing and engaged. I missed one of the eyes so couldn't complete the Secret Room puzzle, glad I couldn't just go back and get it because I will play it again. A game that has re-playable value is a game for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from would be great if I could finish it Quite liked this game overall, and had similar comments to other reviewers. Definitely annoyed by the bonus game glitches, as other described not being able to pick up the strange device. I understand there was a fix on other game sites - can BigFish please update?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The trap of truth demo I was quite enjoying the demo and will probably buy this game but I failed to pick up the red arrow when i picked up the puppet head and found that i could not return to the scene for it and had no option but to start again. I don't know if this would happen for everyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from REWARD THE HONEST & PUNISH THE LIARS WITH THE FLIP OF A COIN Completed Game approximately 4 hours (including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter) 17 Main Game Scene Locations +8 Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate We've always been taught that lies have consequences, but did we believe them, really? When we were children, our parents told us to always speak the truth. As we grew older, we continued believing that it's important that others believe us, "mean what you say, and say what you mean" because our reputation is now at stake! Eventually, we have children of our own, and the pattern continues, after all, we have to know the truth! But what happens when we don't tell the truth? It's just a little white lie, I had to lie, it's for the greater good, no harm, no foul, they had it coming, who will ever know? What if those lies really did have consequences? What if someone was actually keeping tabs? Helper/Gadget: There are no Helpers, There are Gadgets sort of...although the Big E has chosen to do away with the constant Rick Rogers Tattoo scenario, as you progress, you are given Coins by The God of Truth that is used to help various characters escape their "lies" or "truths" The coin represents every human's life, the more lies a person tells, the heavier the coin becomes. Morphing Objects/Collectibles: (CE version only) There are 25 Morphing Objects that morph at a decent speed and for a change aren't the size of baby elephants!! There are 25 Collectible Eyes and when you complete the collection they allow you to assemble a 25 piece Jigsaw Puzzle. There are also 12 Collectible Character Statues although the Strategy Guide shows an extra one? Hidden Object Scenes: There are only 20 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter, +4 smaller zoom zone HO's that usually precede the main HO scenes. What I am noticing from this developer in the last few games is a marked improvement in the Hidden Object Scenes! The objects are smaller, they are clearly making an attempt to blend the objects into the scenery and choosing objects that will blend into the scene rather than stick out like a sore thumb...when developers try to improve...I always notice! There are Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Matching Pairs, Matching Related Objects, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Find & Replace, and one in particular that I enjoyed was having to match two halves of a Silhouetted Shape but you had to wait for clouds to disperse before finding the second half or a related half that matched. There are no alternate games available. Mini-Games: There are 15 Mini-Games +4 in the CE Bonus Chapter. I usually like Elephant Games because most of them are mechanical type puzzles where you tinker with fuses, electrical panels, or gauges and they always seem doable and never frustrating, but they didn't seem to have a lot of mechanical type puzzles this go-round? Here are a few of my personal favorites: 1-Restore the stage decorations by choosing layers in the correct order. 2-Rearrange feathers so both sides are identical. 3-Line each circle's notch along the red line and choose the speed for each circle to rotate. Bonus Chapter (Collector's Edition version only) Everyone knows you don't roll the dice on a game of Jumanji but that's exactly what this group of enlightened BFFs did! Daemon chose to play as The King, Mia chose The Sage, Rachael choose The Wanderer, and Rick is playing as whichever player you chose, and of course, he rolls the dice first in this game that forces the player to Face their Fears, whatever that fear may be...didn't they technically already do that? This is a decent story with a slightly above average-length spanning over 8 Scene Locations with 4 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes. You will search for the remaining 8 Eye/Puzzle Pieces, 8 Morphing Objects, and 3 Character Puppets. Collector's Edition Extra's 8 Wallpapers, 1 Screensaver, 5 Music Soundtracks, 12 Achievements, 12 Replayable Mini-Games, 15 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 25 Morphing Objects, 25 Collectible Eyes (to assemble a 25 piece Jigsaw Puzzle in the Secret Room)12 Character Puppets, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.
