Dig The Ground 4 is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable game I have Dig the Ground 3 and liked it so I tried the demo on this one. I bought it pretty quickly. Pennmom did all the "hard work" in reviewing so others like myself don't need to - that's good for me since I probably couldn't do as good a job as she does. I agree with her thoughts about not being able to go back and rescue a fish. I play relaxed mode on games rather than for stars and I still couldn't go back and save the little guy even though I was only 2 rows below him. I enjoy having the two options of play - match 3 or chain. I play both in these games. These are fun, colorful games - and relaxing if you aren't trying for the stars. Hopefully the series will continue with another "dig" for flowers or fish/turtles or something new. I didn't rate level of challenge since I don't play for stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging and fun when you know what to do I love this series. I only play in 'chain timed' because I find it too hard in M3 to set up for 'gigantic' explosions What I like about the 'chains' are you only need 2 not three to clear them, and you can go diagonally as well. This makes it easier to start setting up huge chains to create nuclear explosions and such. So there's not much to it really..get the water flowing..make sure it reaches whatever is in the 'squares', use your bonus's (they don't last long before reverting to a normal tile) and beat the clock. You can play both styles in relaxed I found the graphics in this one a bit better too. Great way to spend a coupon as it is an SE..so now you know you can go whichway or whatever and only need two tiles to clear. Its a clever game, no bells and whistles..just some challenging fun. Cheers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVE SAVING THE FISHES & TURTLES BUT... Let me start by saying that I loved the underwater concept of "digging" sand tiles and saving the fish & sea turtles way better than digging the dirt! The graphics are brighter, the sand tiles are lighter therefore more appealing, and the fish, plants, and turtles and really adorable! They have added a normal Match 3 type with a Relaxed or Timed Mode, however, I found that there weren't as many Power-ups available in this mode, it was difficult to find large quantities of matches to acquire those power-ups, and the timer was so stingy that it was nearly impossible to save all the fish by getting water to them. There are 40 levels in each mode, so I opted to move on to the Chain-type mode to see what the entire demo had to offer. In the Chain-type mode, they have added a Relaxed mode, a Timed mode, and an Expert mode. I started out in the Timed mode, but once again, I found the timer so stingy that it was nearly impossible to save the fish...I take that back. By the time I reached the end of the demo, it was quite clear that I would never be able to save ALL of the fish in the Normal Timed Mode, and let's face it, human nature pulls our heartstrings and even if it's not real, we certainly don't want sea turtles dying on our watch! There's no option to go backward, even on Relaxed mode (which doesn't lock the fish behind a stone wall) so on timed mode, if you don't get water to the fish in time, you watch in horror as he gets encased in stone to become a fishy-fossil, and in relaxed mode, if you overshoot a fish's position, you panic and wonder if he's flopping around dying a slow miserable death? Gloop, gloop, glooop---...he's flatlining, somebody get the paddles! Maybe it's just the animal-lover in me, but this game needs a "Compassion" option for those of us who aren't cool with an aquarium massacre, an ocean-catastrophe, a fish-fry, especially when it was MY fault for NOT DIGGING FAST ENOUGH, whew, I tried to save you, little buddy :( The longer the chain or M3, the bigger the explosion! You can make small chains of elements containing at least 2 identical elements which will destroy the sand tiles if matched adjacent to it, and it helps to keep the water flowing, and can sometimes make room for larger matches. Matches of 4 or more create an explosion starting with a small bomb, the larger the chain or M3 is, the larger the explosion is, all the way up to a nuclear bomb! The radius of the explosion is shown before you release the chain so you'll know exactly what will be affected by the subsequent explosion. Chains can be made vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or any combination within and you'll want to use this to your advantage, for example, releasing an explosion at the end. in the middle of nowhere, may not accomplish anything, it may be more beneficial if the chain is reversed so that the explosion actually hits something, like lava walls. You start the game at the top of the board and work your way down, but some levels go from left to right, or take sharp turns, starting in one direction and then up, right, left, etc. You must break all of the ground tiles above the line, as you do, the line moves and more of the board is exposed. You want to plan your explosions, and the Nuclear Tiles require a very large match to get a Nuclear Bomb. (I believe around 14 tiles?) So I still loved this game, I actually love the theme and graphics way better than the previous games digging in the dirt. However, unless you are willing to play this game in Relaxed Mode, I think you will find the same issues I did where you just couldn't save all of the fish in time which makes you feel like a complete schmuck! BTW you can find my series lists at https://thewoodsforum.boards.net/

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good game It's a good game. However I didn't like a few things such as having to be extra careful to save the animals. I know it's a game but... The good part is that the game has nice visuals and runs smoothly on my Mac.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from unusual M3 game i did not get this game. you play a level and then go back and play it again. i guess i must have missed the instruction that explained this. there are 40 levels. good luck. i had to start levels over. it is a strategy game as well. when i finished the 40th level it just went back to level map.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Harder than it looks Having played the first 3 versions, I finished the demo (meh!) and purchased. Disappointed. Only on level 6 and have to restart two levels due to no matches available and no way to get any? Not fun. Also very slow gameplay. Maybe play one or two levels at a time and then go to something else?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs a scramble function This game needs a way to scramble the game pieces when there is not a move in the portion showing on the screen. Having to restart because of this reason is insufficient.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from At least I didn't pay for it. I bought it hoping this would be another or the fun dig the ground games. Nope. This one is sea critters and water. Little challenge. Quickly becomes boring.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from no relax option I don't play games that do not provide a relax/untimed option. Besides that I found the game to be boring.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I killed a turtle!! Noooo... this game is a hard pass for me. I was playing and it seemed like a nice little chain game until.... it passed by a turtle without my getting water to it and wouldn't let me scroll back up to rescue him...nope...I passed it so I guess my little friend died locked in a block with no water. I get it's just a game... BUT... that's exactly it... it is just a GAME... I don't want to play a simple chain game and be stressed about the animals I can't save!!! I'll play a killing game for that. This kind of game is for relaxing and it's not relaxing if I can't save them all. Why can't the devs make it that you just don't get points for the fish? How about the fish, turtles, and other creatures just escape if you don't rescue them? Maybe the ones you rescue are in your aquarium or something. That would be fine. But the idea of not being able to go back and rescue them all and them dying for lack of water just bothers me...
