Secret City: Mysterious Collection Collector's Edition is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Surely A Story Can Be Created Without Artifacts!? It used to be fun, but now it is old and done to death. The demo was quite enough for me with too many artifacts and not enough story. It wasn't all that interesting either. I have enjoyed several of the earlier Secret City games, but I found this one was quite lacking all around. I always wish the stories would focus more upon the citizens of this city hidden away from the humans, but there are only brief encounters with them. There is great potential for something more than running around in search of artifacts. I would think that Domini could zap this game with its magic touch and give us some good entertainment. The graphics were nice but there was nothing special about the scenes or color, just typical. Lots of tasks and going back and forth which made me lose interest early in the demo. Sometimes a game improves after the demo, but I didn't feel it would happen with this one. I did complete the trial and didn't encounter any glitches, no delays between scenes/locations. The standard HOP styles were fun, all were easy and quick to finish. Some of the puzzles could be played in Easy or Hard Mode, but the ones in the demo were not of much challenge. The collectibles were sparse but included lots of coins to find and 40 achievements that are always interesting. The morphs were not as easy to spot as the other collectibles, but still too easy. Without the challenge of well-hidden collectibles, the fun is greatly diminished, IMO Secret City: Mysterious Collection is an okay game if you are not expecting a special story plot or non-stop entertainment. It can be easy or more challenging, depending on your choice of play mode. You may like this game a great deal, but for me it was boring and "empty" of many of the fun elements I Iook for in HOPA game.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Based on "try the game before purchase" . . . and the decision to purchase is up in the air for me. I decided for now to leave the decision for another day. I would have to be desperate .So much work put in and I feel sorry that it has been wasted on this gamer. Urge folks to make up their own minds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just one more artifact should do it. Oh NO!! One more... I'll start by saying fantasy games are not my favorite. Actually, they're on the bottom of my list of things that interest me. However, I try to give each game a fair shake as there are some series that are fantasy which I like. I have never gotten into this series. Not sure what it is about it. I usually love Domini games and have most all of them. I felt like I was on a mission to find artifacts, but I'm not sure why, as there was no real story behind it. Graphics were excellent as usual for this developer. The more the search went on without any reason, the more bored I became. I think I nodded off. A few times. This is one where the player will love it or not. Play the demo and decide if it's for you. It's not for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ARTIFACTS, ARTIFACTS, AND EVEN MORE ARTIFACTS IN THE BONUS CHAPTER WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP 5 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 42 pages (My Time: 6 Hours? Not certain. I fell asleep while playing it) STORY: Detective! Return to the Secret City to investigate mysterious artifacts which are causing havoc within the city. Since arriving at the local museum, these strange items are affecting the local citizens, causing them to lose their willpower, entering a zombie-like trance. A vengeful social misfit may be behind the chaos affecting the city and it will be up to you to stop him before he can use these artifacts to charge a powerful device to suppress the will of the people. OPINION: Domini Games is my favorite developer; however, this series is not. This creature feature is another game in which some evildoer tries to destroy the inhabitants of this city hidden away from human folk. I found the game monotonous. There is a great deal of back-and-forth motion within the game. There is not much of story behind the game – just running to-and-fro from one scene to another searching for the culprit behind the chaos while collecting inventory items. The graphics are decent with the Domini’s signature neon green and purple splattered throughout the scenes. There are three (3) collectibles. Collect morphing objects and photos. The photos practically jump out at you within the scenes. The morphing objects are better hidden, but still obvious within the scenes. Collect coins to purchase items for a private jet. The coins are easily seen as well. I hate collecting coins to purchase items for some room or other locale. This is one collectible I wish this developer would eliminate from their games. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 40 achievements. • Collect 15 morphing artifacts and 15 photos. • Collect 70 coins to purchase items for your private jet • 15 wallpapers along with concept art, music, and video sequences • Replay 18 HOP scenes and 18 mini-games BONUS CHAPTER: It is another game. You have been asked to investigate another case involving - you guessed it - even more artifacts. A well-known criminal within the city has been sending artifacts to the city’s residents with disastrous consequences. Upon receipt, the residents are falling into a deep sleep and not waking up (like me playing this game). This human evildoer has plans to capitalize on selling these magical artifacts to humans causing untold havoc between the two kingdoms. Now you must try to stop him. I found this bonus chapter a rehash of the story from the main game. It is the same story with another villain. Ho Hum! To me this is just more of the same from the main game. There are eight (8) mini-games and five (5) HOP scenes. There are also two mini-HOP scenes in which the player locates 6 items. I did not think the mini-games were as creatively designed as those from the main game. The chapter seemed as if it were rushed through without any creative thought or design. To me this chapter is not worth the price of a collector’s edition. HOP SCENES: There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes; all can be replayed at the end of the game. I do like the variety of the HOP scenes with Domini Games; however, these scenes are not as creatively designed as in many of their other games. They include the standard lists of items and silhouette. However, there are some spot-the-difference scenes, rebus clue scenes, and some pattern scenes in which an item is chosen based upon a small piece of it or its pattern. My favorite is a search-and-replace scene in which items are located then used within the scene to find the next item. MINI-GAMES: There are twenty-eight (28) puzzles within the game; eighteen (18) of which can be replayed at the end of the game. Most of them can be played in either an “easy” mode for an easy/breezy game or in a “hard” mode which provides a more challenging game. There are some “puzzles” within this game which I would hardly call “puzzles.” Entering a code written on a piece of paper is NOT a puzzle. SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: (E = Easy; H = Hard) A. E/H. Maze puzzle. Move a ball through a maze using arrows to direct its motion. Move it until it reaches a hole within the maze. The ball will keep moving until it hits a blocker in its path. The harder version has a more complex route to follow to the hole. 3X B. Switch puzzle. Switch icons on a computer screen to match that on a given code C. Gear puzzle. Switch gears so that all mesh with each other. D. E/H. Switch puzzle. Switch a pair of tokens at a time so that each token is in its proper location. The harder version has a space between the pair of tokens to be switched E. Lock puzzle. Enter a given code into a vending machine to get a ticket. (This is NOT a puzzle) F. E/H. Map puzzle. Choose between 3 paths at the right time to move through a scene without being caught by the patrolling police. The harder version has one more policeman 3X G. E/H. Switch/Connection puzzle. Switch tokens with lights emanating from them so the lights from the tokens connect with each other and create a design. BONUS CHAPTER: H. Assembly puzzle. Move 4 pieces of a medallion into position by rotating the pieces and pushing them into the center. 2X I. Lock puzzle. Enter 4 numbers to open a lock. J. E/H. Map puzzle. Place arrows on a grid to lead a token to a shop. Avoid soap traps. Test your results after placing the arrows. The harder version has more arrows to place.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from IT DOESN'T SEEM VERY MYSTERIOUS WHEN ALL THE PLOTS ARE THE SAME? Completed Game approximately 6.0 hours (including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter) 20 Main Game Scene Locations +8 Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner After receiving some mysterious Artifacts, the Museum workers begin to notice that their powers are disabled, some of the workers are actually losing their minds! The Museum manager, Henry Harris has contacted the detective after Sakir goes missing while investigating the case and soon realizes everyone is in grave danger! Gadgets/Helper: There are no helpers, and no gadgets other than the tattoo that allows the Detective to "see" the Secret City. Audio/Video Quality No doubt Domini has beautiful graphics and they are well adept at subtle music cues that do exactly what they are supposed to do...go unnoticed yet set the pace. They are also really clever at placing several interactive "toys" for the player to fiddle with, turning lights on/off, making ropes untie or move, or animals scamper...but have you ever noticed that after the demo there's hardly anything you can interact with? $"gotcha" $ Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only): There are 15 Morphing Artifacts, 15 Collectible Photos, and 15 Private Jet Items to purchase using the 70 Collectible Coins. You can opt to show/hide a collectibles tab on the inventory bar that will open a specific icon when there is a collectible available. Hidden Object Scenes: There are 13 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and a couple of mini-HO's. There is an alternate Match 3 Game available. The Match 3 Game would be amazing if they allowed you to make fast consecutive matches, it would be cool if they put a little effort into this aspect to make the boards get progressively more difficult, added more tiles or something other than a square board with no obstacles??!! There are Interactive Listed Item Finds, Silhouetted Shapes, Swatches Finds, and Spot The Differences available, but not a whole lot of variations in my opinion. Mini-Games: There are 20 Mini-Games +8 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) Here are a few of the games you'll come across: 1-Move a ball through a maze. 2-Swap gears to make them run smoothly. 3-Navigate a maze by choosing 1-3 paths at the correct time. 4-Create a pattern using tokens and lights. 5-Place arrows of different directions to navigate a maze. Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only) Another criminal is at large in the Secret City and he has been sending artifacts to its residents that put them into a deep sleep! There are 5 Hidden Object Scenes (+2 mini-HO's) and 8 Mini-Games spanning over 8 new scene locations. You will search for the remaining 4 Photos, and 3 Morphing Artifacts, as well as 5 Coins of various amounts that allow you to purchase the final Private Jet Items. Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only) 15 Wallpapers, 15 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 24 Movie Video Cutscenes, 40 Achievements, 18 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Morphing Artifacts, 15 Photos, 15 Private Jet Items, 70 Collectible Crystals (currency) a gazillion Missing Notes, 5 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. All of my Series Lists (and much more) can be found on my new forum at thewoodsforum.boards.net

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK, until Bonus Game Not anything outstanding, but fun to play another Secret City, until I came to the Bonus Game. Got stuck on the pier because I don't have a faucet handle. There was no faucet handle where I was supposed to acquire one. Can't go back, so can't finish the bonus. Very disappointing. Sorry I didn't wait for the regular edition.
