Golden Rails: Small Town Story Collector's Edition is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally something worth playing! I'm feeling like we've been in a dry spell for good time management games (though I play them without a time limit). This game finally broke the dry spell for a little bit. I'd say the game is excellent, but there is a segment where you shoot bad guys that is a bit fast for slower players such as myself. (Took a star off for that because I couldn't get enough stars to finish the town in the minigame.) Otherwise this is great fun. The story is a basic western... mayor is trying to save his town, bad guy is robbing everyone, indians are helping out the good guys, and so forth. It may not be for everyone, but I'd say definitely give it a try. You may like it more than you thought you would.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Aww, Isn't This Cute? Second one--with some refinements over the first, which was pretty good of itself. Cute as it appears, Hard mode means what it says. There's also Normal and Easy (untimed) Now we have bouncy animations of the various objects in the field, as well as the fun hidden object in each level which is the mascot of the game builder. Very cute. Even though this game is reminiscent of the Wild West-themed Next Stop games, there are novel tasks and ways to go about them so that it's not your average step-n-shlep. Graphics were OK: the first levels were way too orange-tan monochromatic for my taste, and the monotonous chopping of wood in the shed could be irritating to some. You can turn down sounds and music, use your sytem pointer and turn off tutorials. A nice game overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Into the west I enjoyed the original Golden Trails, so I bought this one without doing the demo. Yup, it's just as much fun as the original - Jack and Jill are likable characters who share a sweet bond, the plot is entertaining (if just a little predictable), and the TM challenge is satisfying. Not a whole lot to say about it, really. It's a pleasant, straightforward TM game and I hope the series continues because I want to see more of these two.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great game It would get 5 stars if I felt it was worth the collectors edition price. 10 extra levels does not make it worth double the money. I enjoyed the game more than the original. You still do basically the same things, but for some reason I liked this one better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I found it monotonous Time management games are my favorite games these days. I like the challenge. But Golden Rails was boring. I find it difficult to believe that this is the same developer who did Rose Riddle (wonderful games) since I've played both Rose Riddles 10 times of more and still find them fun, wish they'd stuck with that game and put out a few more versions. With the exception of looking for that owl, everything else was of so little challenge I'd decide to go wash dishes or gather my tax return papers in the middle of game play. It wasn't the worst but it is close to it. This game presented almost no challenge except for time, all the "obstacles" were a little too easy to handle. I love a good challenge, even if it means having to replay the same level several/many times to get it. Too many TM games have become too easy and lackluster.
