Merchants of the Caribbean Collector's Edition is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Wow!! Well this game was a breath of fresh air so far. Have only done the free 1 hour but will purchase. Graphics and new ideas compare with Royal Envoy , one of the earlier games that I compare most others with. It has one of the best things that a good Time Management game should always have - you do not have a fixed order in which to do things that some other games have as a defect. In this game you need to get a certain number of things done but not in any fixed order. You can decide when you start to make a factory or change the type of plant a field produces. You just have to find the optimum way to proceed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FUN and CHALLENGING I like that you can click and plan your moves and character doesn't have to walk back to bring resources. Everything is faster and yet still challenging to play. I love my 3 stars so when levels are toooo easy I get bored. I recommend trying this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seriously Awesome Game This is such a nice little surprise for a time management game, completely different than others and utterly fun! It takes time as well, so you don't speed through it which is refreshing. The graphics, storyline, play, fun and challenge are all high marks with this game, highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I find this game to be a lot of fun! I'm enjoying this slightly different take on the time management game genre. So far I've only played on the untimed version. Levels are fairly intuitive. The first level tells you what actions you need to perform so that you get a feel for how the game works. Ship battles and treasure chest islands start off easy but get progressively more difficult as the game goes on. You can skip ship battles if you can't beat one, as I've had to do with #10. I'm not sure about the treasure chest islands, as I haven't had to skip any. I don't know if the ability to skip is available on the timed version of the game, but it definitely is on the untimed version. I do wish there were more levels. That is really my only complaint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable and different! I really like this game - it really keeps my attention! On the demo I couldn't stop playing. And I just bought it so I can keep going. :) The playing area is bigger then the screen so you have to move around and see where things are, which makes it more interesting. Plus there are sometimes caves with additional items to do. There are roads to clear and farms to start. I like it that the worker who builds the farm (or whatever) then is automatically assigned to work it and you get resources automatically too. Then you go to the market to sell them. I like that feature, you can see exactly what you have and choose what to sell and what to keep. Like keeping some corn to make flour. Then there are the temples where you have to give offerings to keep your workers from slowing down or being in the dark which adds to the challenge. There are hidden objects to find (or ignore if you wish) and awards to win. The sea battles are not my favorite part but it does make for some variety. And at least they do fit with the storyline. I like that there isn't an excessive amount of clicking. Its more about thinking and choosing a route. Several reviewers have commented on there not being enough levels but the levels are complex with lots to do. I suspect later levels could take a long time. So for me its worth it. (and with a sale going on, who can resist!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent variety!! Casual games have become so mundane, it's a nice breath of fresh air to play one with a variety of gameplay. Time management, battles, and bonus levels. There was one battle scene near the end I couldn't pass no matter how many times I tried, even after getting later bonuses, but other than that, I had a great time! There are several levels which will challenge you to complete on time. The good news is you get to complete them anyway, just without the extra stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Complex but fun Interesting game. To win you need to have the right strategy which takes some working out so not one for those that don't like that sort of thing. The ship battles I gave a miss, it does let you carry on without doing them all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really like this game and here comes the but I like different and this game is different, not sure it is a good idea to start with a battle though but quite enjoy them. So why just 4 stars if I like this so much ? Easy, Just 24 standard levels, I am already on level 10. An average se time management game has 40 levels, this with all the extras excloding battles just scrapes in at 40 and this is a CE. Also. it is not an easy game and took me a while to work out the ins and outs of it, There is such a lot going on here and you need to scroll to get all around the levels which get longer the further you get in. If this had more levels then it would have been 5 stars but I feel this is a bit mean. Try the demo and see what you think. I do wish it did not start with a battle as it gives the wrong impression.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good game..Some Annoyances. It is a good game. Very busy, some novel aspects but some annoying features, and just not enough levels of pure gameplay for me. One thing I have not come across before is that it doesn't fit on my main screen..I have to move up, down, across and around. This was really disconcerting at first, but the more I played I then realised this was part of the skill..things could be happening out of view and it was up to you to remember AND find them. One thing in particular, and altar that requires constant feeding of money to prevent it slowing down the production of your buildings and fields. If you are on the other side of the screen working away you just have to remember to go back and make your offering every now and then or a 'pink mist' reminds you that you forgot. There is also a hidden object on each level, different each time but pirate like in nature to find, and sometimes you wont see it until you uncover a hidden area. (swords, treasure etc). And there are achievements and a numbered strategy guide. It will take a while to get the hang of the fact that each time you want money you must go the market and sell your goods to get it and move on in the game. I did get used to it..but it is a bit stressful lol. I also took a while to catch on that I did not have to build every building just because it is there..yes they may earn you more money to hire the myriad of workers you need (sometimes I needed 7 or 8)..but they can slow down your progress too if playing in timed. (there is a relaxed and normal mode) There are various crops and resources to gather and it is really important that you look at your goals so you can decide what is necessary to build or plant, and which crops or resource will feed your production buildings. No point doing cornfields if you need flax etc. (all resources earn money though). There are sea battles which depending on how good you are give you a percentage score of how much you won the battle by. You must fix holes, fire cannon, stop bombs exploding and cut down ropes to prevent boarding. You have limited workers so it too is very busy. I haven't even managed 100% yet, but it's not my favourite part of the game..and they are quite plentiful. I would have preferred it if they gave more levels and less battles. But that's just personal taste. There are only 24 main levels! Then 6 bonus levels..then ten extra levels for the CE. So its only forty levels (plus all the sea battles) and that's just too few for me as far as CE value goes. I guess the SE will only have 30 plus the battles? If you love TM you will enjoy this game if only for the novelty of new stuff and a very colourful screen. And if you really enjoy the sea battles you may be getting full value for your CE outlay. You wont be bored, you may find some aspects a little tedious though I think. But I am glad I have it and it does fully engage me. I just couldn't stretch to five stars. Enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not CE worthy As said before there are not enough levels to make this a CE. The battles were an immediate turnoff, because it's not the type of mini games I enjoy, but I was pleasantly surprised that they really have more of a time management factor than just a random fight sequence. My biggest problem is just that there are not enough levels, and counting the battles that are essentially a mini game just doesn't make up for the huge difference. Add the missing levels and I will gladly pay a CE price for this game. As is, no. I strongly suggest anyone who likes time management games to try this one so you know what you would get if this turns into a true Collector's Edition.
