Halloween Chronicles: Evil Behind a Mask Collector's Edition is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not sure why this is not getting higher ratings I absolutely love this game. Different types of puzzles - not the same 'old ones'. All of the collectibles - awesome. I would definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from spooktacular There was a lot of thought put into this one. I didn't like all of the puzzles, some were good, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the rest of the game. I would recommend getting the collectors edition as there are many things to do. Morphing figurines, papers and coins that you can purchase items with. Music wasn't always the same song, sound effects were good and you really need to click on things in the surroundings because lots of interaction. I found the HOP very fun, especially the carousel in the park was killer. whoever wrote the clues has a sense of humor, or so I thought. Like I always say, judge for yourself. I was going to pass on this because of some of the bad reviews, glad I tried it for myself. I think it gets better as it goes along. Hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MY NEW FAVORITE HALLOWEEN GAME THAT IS DESTINED TO BECOME A SEASONAL CLASSIC Wow, Halloween Chronicles Evil Behind a Mask is an awesome and the perfect Halloween game. There is just enough scare factor to make it great fun without it being far too creepy. I love it, and I am not a huge fan of most of the Halloween games we’ve had this year. The graphics are terrific and even with this developer’s love of intense coloration in its games, these are far more Halloween appropriate. I enjoy seeing and finding all of the little detail in each scene. There are some in the HOPS that I even though they were not on the item list, they were fun to click to see what happened. Something that I truly appreciate is that this developer has listened to gamers and given us true Custom Setting in its games. I appreciate being able to set my own hint and skip times to my own specifications. The HOS are very creative and they are not simply ones where we find the items. I’ve had fun playing through the scenes and finding all of the little special details hidden within. One of my favorite HOS is the carousel but there are many more, all of them so creative and well-designed. Some of the HOS are multi-level as well. There is a Match-3 game included that you can switch to if you don’t want to play the HOS. I found the Mini Games or Puzzles to be as much fun as the HOS. The puzzles were, at least for me, as enjoyable as the HOS, which doesn’t often happen. Most of the puzzles have been seen in other games and most were easy but, of course, I play in the “Easy” mode. One of the puzzles I enjoyed the most was the one where I had to adjust light beams to turn off pairs of orbs but there were still others that were as enjoyable. Overall, this game was so wonderful that I know I will play it again, and it is destined to become my favorite Halloween classic. The entire game is so creative and filled with Halloween fun that even the bad guy doesn’t seem that creepy. Kudos to the developer for creating one of the best ever Halloween games that I am sure will become a favorite with other gamers as well. Even though I love Halloween Chronicles Evil Behind a Mask, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Save your dearest and nearest-quote from game. The boogeyman gave his monsters masks to hand out. If you put on a mask or it's placed on you, you are taken over by the mask. These masks are hundreds of years old, they contain the magic of fear and nightmares. The boogeyman is the lord of nightmares. I liked most scenes but some still have the moldy teal coloring. I like the beauty of Halloween and it's not gross. I liked the iced Bundt cake when loading. Liked the treats table. I liked the interactive scenes with their little surprises. The monsters are cool as are the monkey and Salem the cat. I don't like hurting animals with fleas. The only puzzle I liked was the maze so far and used the zero skip in the custom mode on the rest. It has 7 chapters + bonus chapter which is nice because I don't like finishing a game in one day. I loved the witches' carousel hops the best so far. It's pretty. I loved the other hops too. The interactive hops had common sense so far. The notes you find are in the tasks if you want to read them. The achievements and a mark if you haven't picked up the collectible is in the map if you click that you want it. Didn't like the characters all over the 20 wallpapers. The 20 concept arts has the scenes I like not finish and would have liked them for wallpapers finished except the witches' carousel is covered with a game stamp. Bummer! Find 60 coins to furnish the Trophy Room. Find 15 morphing figures that has info. Find 21 book of monster's pages with info. The morphs are at least bigger now. I would like a morph in every scene. Replay 18 hops, 20 mini-games, 31 videos and 5 music. Facts are owned by everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They keep getting better This is much better than last years, although I enjoyed that one too. The hops are evenly spaced and interesting. The puzzles also are well placed, and you can replay them when the game is done to master puzzles that had you stumped. A big plus for me:) The story had good pacing and kept me engaged. It alternates with adventure type exploring and the puzzles and hops: this is often lacking in other games. I managed to collect all the coins this time - they are not always easily seen, and you have to keep an eye out for dark corners where they hide. The notes were fairly easy to find, but the statues took some hunting in some scenes! This is definitely going on my top lists of games that will do well played a second or even third time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OPEN A PANDORA’S BOX OF SPOOKY HALLOWEEN FUN! REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 7 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 48 pages (My time: 6 hours) OPINION: Get into the Halloween spirit by donning a mask. Well, perhaps not in this game! Behind the masks are three (3) evil spirits trying to resurrect the Boogeyman. Packed inside this developer’s trick-or-treat bag is a fantastic holiday game to while away the cool autumn nights. This “spookfest” is all dressed up for Halloween replete with ghosts, ghouls, zombies along with some infamous characters from the world of horror. The game is chock full of Halloween items throughout. No tricks from my favorite developer. Playing this game was a definite treat! This game should appeal to the whole family. It has a good pace with plenty of varied activities. There are three collectibles, all of which I found easy to locate. Collect morphing figurines. Collect sixty (60) coins with which to purchase fourteen (14) items for a trophy room. Collect fifteen (15) pages from the “Book of Monsters.” There are three indicators on the inventory bar which light up when there is a collectible within the scene. HOP SCENES: The eighteen (18) HOP scenes are thematic – filled with yummy Halloween eye candy. All can be replayed after the game is completed. I found the scenes varied and creatively designed. Every scene contains a different format for locating the items within the scenes. Some of the scenes contain two different scenes in which to search for the items. As in their previous games, the developer provides a Match-3 game to be played in lieu of the scenes. MINI-GAMES: There are twenty-nine (29) mini-games. Twenty (20) of these can be replayed at the end of the game. All have the option to be played in either an “easy” or “hard” mode. A great deal of work went into designing this seasonal delight. BONUS CHAPTER: It is a prequel. Play the son of Seymour Olsen. After you gift your wife with the Pandora’s box, it is stolen by a misguided man. He wishes to cure his daughter of her nightmares and fears by using it to summon the Boogeyman. The chapter if of decent length and worth the price of a collector’s edition. There are seven (7) mini-games and five (5) HOP scenes. Continue to collect the collectibles within the game. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • Thirty-three (33) achievements. • Collect fifteen (15) morphing figurines • Collect fifteen (15) pages from the Book of Monsters • Collect sixty (60) coins to purchase items for a trophy room • Twenty (20) wallpapers along with concept art, music and video sequences • Replay eighteen (18) HOP scenes and twenty (20) mini-games SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO – ALL HAVE THE OPTION TO BE PLAYED IN AN “EASY” OR “HARD” MODE A. Don’t get steamed! Maze puzzle. Romp through a maze, turning off all steam valves in your path. B. Skin and bones! Assembly puzzle. Create a bird out of bones and then add rune stones as per a given diagram. Rotate the bones to fit the diagram and then add the stones. C. Bridge the gap! Tangram puzzle. Place pieces from a bridge into position to restore the bridge. D. Fill ‘er up! Strategy puzzle. Fill in all spaces on a hexagonal shaped grid using a token. The token will continue to fill in spaces until it hits the side of the grid or a filled cell. You cannot retrace steps. E. You old bat! Assembly puzzle. Place vampire teeth into position within a bat’s mouth. BONUS CHAPTER F. Geared up for Halloween! Gear/Domino puzzle. Place gears on a grid so that symbols on the gears match up with the gears next to them. G. Moonlight Madness! Switch puzzle. Switch tokens on a circular grid to complete a lunar cycle as per a given diagram. H. Lift me up! Maze puzzle. An interesting application in which levers are used move an amulet to the top of a vat of water. Move the amulet to areas where there are openings in which to move it to the top. I. Split personality! Assembly puzzle. Use two dials to point to the two symbols which comprise a larger symbol. Then use another dial to point to the number of that symbol within the grid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Was Okay... Not Good... Not Bad So after playing some rather chilling Halloween games, I knew this one was more on the tame side from what I remembered from last years' entry into this series. I was right. It was a short game (4 hours) and mostly easy-breezy. I did like the variety of HOPs and that this game offers none of those "Random Solution" puzzles (THANK YOU DEVS!). There were several instances that had me scratching my head... such as why would you need a boot sole to strike a match when there are rocks all around you? Why would you need a flint and striker when you just had a Zippo-style lighter? Lots of back and forth play, which would have been awful if there wasn't a jump map. The collectibles are very easy to find, but I did like the collectible indicator to let you know what is available. Yes, it's hand-holding, but I was okay with it. Lots of teals and very bright colors for those who don't care for that. Personally, it doesn't bother me, but it does give the game a more "family friendly" look to it. Did I like this game? Well, it was 'meh'. Not great, not bad... we've all played variations of this before. A nice, non-scary Halloween game. As always, please try the demo for yourself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from THE BOOGEYMAN'S GONNA GET YOU Completed Game approximately just under 6 Hours (including completion of all puzzles and CE Bonus Chapter) *25 Scene Locations +11 in the CE Bonus Chapter* NEVER open up Pandora's Box of Fears, you never know if urban legends are true, so why risk it? After receiving a video chat from Uncle Oswald and your father trying to scare you on Halloween, you realize that they are both in dire straits after donning a cursed masked. Uncle Oswald ordered the masks for his Sheer Horrors Shop but didn't take the cursed mask warning seriously until it was too late. Unfortunately, the masks are just a tiny piece of the puzzle, the real danger is Pandora's Box of Fears that will summon the Boogeyman and release the fears of every single human! Hidden Object Scenes: There are 18 HO Scenes that are all Halloween related and located in interesting locations. Most of the scenes are highly interactive, some of which require switching between scenes. They vary with Interactive List Finds, Pictured Related Item Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Interactive-Progressive Silhouetted Shape Finds (Find and use the item back in the scene to uncover the next item) Matching Pairs Finds, and Multiples of the same Item Finds. There is an alternate Match 3 Game available and one of the achievements are earned for playing a HOP in this alternate puzzle offered. Mini-Games: There are 29 Halloween-themed Mini-Games that are available in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode. They are decent puzzles but they have been recycled from previous games, so much so that you probably won't need to read the instructions. Below are brief descriptions of some of my personal favorites: 1-Read the clue and click on the various grid pattern buttons to guide each token to the correct slot. 2-Place beads to omplete the patterns on each necklace. 3-Find the right sequence of moves to avoid the traps, you can move forward, backward, or make no move at all for each turn. 4-Select buttons to move ice cream cone sections between columns to complete both cones from bottom to top. 5-Move token to fill all honeycomb-shaped cells. 6-Place gears by aligning symbols. Bonus Chapter (Collector's Edition Version Only) The Bonus Chapter is an above-average length prequel that takes place over 11 scene locations. Pandora's Box of Fears is stolen by a father who believes that he can summon the Boogeyman to cure his daughter's fears and subsequence nightmares. There are 5 Hidden Object Scenes and 7 Mini-Games and the CE Extra's continue with the final Book of Monster Page, 3 Morphing mythical Figures and 9 Collectible Coins which allows you to purchase the final Trophies in the Trophy Room. Collector's Edition Extra's: 20 Wallpapers, 20 Concept Art Pictures, 31 Movie Video Cutscenes, 5 Music, 33 Achievements, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 20 Replayable Mini-Games, 15 Morphing Figures, 15 Book of Monster Pages (15 Monster Descriptions) 60 Collectible Coins (purchase 15 items in Trophy Room) Trophy Room (purchase 15 items with Collectible Coins) 7 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty nice HOPA game with weakness in the story Uncle Oswald invites you to his shop for Halloween. A cursed mask turns your father into a horrible creature... This is the story of DominiGames "Halloween Chronicles: Evil Behind a Mask". "Halloween Chronicles: Evil Behind a Mask" is a classic Hidden-Object-Puzzle-Adventure with tons of Hidden Objcts to be found in the locations and HO scenes. The artworks are detailed and pretty "spooky" and so is the soundtrack. The only thing I did not like was the story itself... For me, it got lost pretty early and it was hard go get back on the plot. Conclusion: Pretty nice HOPA game with weakness in the story. If you'd like to see more game reviews, find me on facebook as "Hidden-Casuals".
