Goosebumps: The Game is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Challenging This is like playing a Nancy Drew game without Nancy. It also reminds me of "The Silent Age." The game is definitely a challenge, and tasks are not immediately obvious. It's been a lot of trial and error. I found the controls confusing at first, and I kept hitting "game over" early on. One thing that was confusing was how to save the game. Then I realized I needed to hit escape and click save. If you don't do that, you'll have to start from the beginning when you go back again. I soon figured things out. It has me completely absorbed, and very few games do that anymore. It's not for everyone, though. I can see how this would annoy and frustrate a lot of people. I was certainly annoyed and frustrated after my first attempt. I almost didn't go back. I'm so glad I gave this a second chance because I love it now. Can't wait for more from this series. I've always been a fan of Goosebumps, and this has that "Goosebump" vibe. Perfect for me. Give it a chance and see if it's for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BOUGHT IT!! TOO MUCH FUN NOT TO :D 7 REASONS WHY Pennmom liked this but the next 2 reviews went downhill, which only left me one choice: I had to see for myself. A good ol' point-and-click. I am used to playing them here and there on one of my other game sites, but have not run into Goosebumps before (bless you R.L. Stine). If you love reading, this game is a must. Your role is that of a student navigating through a world that somehow morphed from a Donna Reed setting into a reality only Svengoolie could love. Schoolgirl: "So. Just what DID happen to my house that looked normal when I left for school this morning and now looks like something out of The Munsters?" Sound from game dev studio: "Heh, heh, heh." Another sound from dev studio: "Mooah ha ha!" Oh, they had fun with this one. Yes they did. 7 REASONS WHY I BOUGHT THIS GAME 1. There are all kinds of spots to click that provide all kinds of information. 2. Each clickpoint has a dropdown menu with a variety of options, such as Look, Open, Test, Take, and more. 3. There are lots and lots of items to take, and plenty of room in your backpack inventory but... do you really need that item or is it just going to sit there as a mere item of interest? 4. You can die by making poor choices, but bounce back to play that scene again. 5. The game is loaded with regular and oddball characters who bring out a range of emotions in reaction to their varied attitudes. 6. The dialogue and info texts are great, and easy to click past when you have to revisit a scene. 7. I'm loving the level of challenge, but thank heaven there are walkthroughs out there. Search: goosebumps walkthrough. Try it, buy it, and good luck getting through the door on the right. Or the one on the left. :D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Game Finally a good point-and-click adventure game! A smart game that lets you fire up the little gray cells and have fun! I'm so tired of seeing the same silly games with fancy artwork and no substance. I'm tired of the recycled storylines and ridiculous characters that have you doing the same silly tasks over and over. This game is fun, challenging, and totally worth buying!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goosebumps What an amazing adventure game. We need more of them. There is too many HOPS already. I really like it. Congrats!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Everyone's Cup of Prune Juice Based on the demo. Recommend trying before buying. This game is definitely an older style point and click, choose your own story type. A lot of reading required, so not the most action in the world. Lots of items to interact with/use, maybe too many at times til you get the correct item. Revisit areas as time may change the interaction (for example, the dryer is running initially, but when you go back it has stopped). Biggest tip is to use the map function or call mom on the phone when you think you are stuck. It will show you possible areas you can go to, to pick up missing items to use. For example, Early on, I was stuck on the weed guy in the woods til I realized I needed the weed killer. Biggest drawback is that there is no JUMP feature on the map, so you have to do tons of backtracking. I like this game for a mellow, use your gray matter, go at your own pace kind of game. I realize that this one won't appeal to a ton of people, but give the full demo a try before deciding to pull the plug. You may find that you like it after(life) all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Give this Game A Chance-Read Pennmom's Review For Tips I do like this game. I have to say I am accustomed to playing point and click games from the Nancy Drew series. However, Pennmom's review helped me to be able to navigate more easily through this game. Once you have mastered how to navigate (which is easier than it seems) through the scenes and from one scene to another the true fun begins. You have many choices and numerous items you can pick up or not that is entirely up to the player. It is also up to the player where to proceed to and what actions they want to take....if any. The Devs have a great sense of humor which comes through in almost every scene. You must remember to save the game often (Exit button will bring up the menu to save) as if you should do an action that say - kills you- which I did I can go back in and start from right before I died so I do not have to replay the entire game. In my opinion this game is what we all have been needing from Big Fish. Aren't you tired of the easy peasy hand holding games? Truly this game is not hard to learn the navigation. Just be patient with yourself and you will figure it out and once you have you are in for a REAL TREAT! I would have given it more stars except the graphics could have been better BUT that did not detract from the game or the fun I am having.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adventure Your Way to Point-and-Click Like PennMom, I enjoy adventure or point-and-click games. For me, they were my next step in gaming, after HOPAs seemed to have run their course. I would like to be wrong about the HOPAs, of course. Kudos to those developers who keep trying to give HOPAs a new twist. They may just do it! And it could very well be in the adventure/storyline aspect of HOPAS Adventure games require thinking, almost true detecting, and like HOPAs, they range in how good they are. I tried quite a few before I got the hang of how they work, and the newer ones are not like this prequel to the movie. A lot of time since then and now, in gaming and in movies. Goosebumps: The Game is far from the the best, and like older adventure games, you have keep to saving so when you die you don't have to start too far back. So, yeah, no hand-holding. And no game can be rated in one minute, certainly; in my opinion, neither can a game be rated by demo only. PennMom has some great suggestions to help you to at least try this adventure game (and check out her forum, too!). If this game doesn't appeal, search BF for adventure games as there are some really good ones. There's information everywhere on the internet about adventure games. No one adventure game is for everyone but for everyone there is an adventure game. Off my soapbox now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Skip early reviews - fun adventure, pennmom has tips Sure, it is a bit older, and the nit-pickers can easily find fault with it ---- but the fact is that it is a delightful adventure game that is worth a look. Easily outpaces some of the weaker "HOPA" offerings we are seeing. Just a little patience, and you will be rewarded with a golden oldie gem. I think there are others in the series ---- maybe Felix will find them!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from YEAH-FINALLY, A POINT & CLICK ADVENTURE Honestly, I'd give this game 3.8 stars because 3 stars are too low but it's not quite awe-inspiring enough to get a 4-star rating (for my personal preference) I'm not sure why BF chose to offer the fourth game in the Goosebumps game series first, but I'm more than grateful that they offered a rare point & click adventure today so I'm not complaining! Basically, this is an adventure where you are tasked with survival against things that go bump in the night and give you goosebumps....but this is a game based upon the Goosebumps book series so it's not scary, and there are no hack & slash moments, just weird goings-on kind of stuff. I see that the first couple of reviewers had some issues understanding the game mechanics. You can fast-forward through the text dialog by clicking anywhere. You can also click the spacebar and arrow key to pull up all available exit locations (up, down, left, right) The goal is to find and use inventory items to help you progress...and not die! If you make poor decisions you will die and you'll have to start over, but as long as you save your progress often, you won't have to start over from the beginning. Clicking on an area will pull up a window with choices if it only says "look" just ignore it unless you just want to read text dialog about random items. You really just look for items or areas that say "move" "take" or "talk" although some items let you interact with them such as swinging on a tire swing or sliding down the stair banister. To use an inventory item, click on the desired item on the right side and then click "use" and select the area you want to use it. This is a pure adventure game with an escape-the-room vibe. Yes, the graphics could be better, yes, the storyline could have been better scripted, (but I did enjoy some of the sarcastic humor) It will take you a few minutes to get used to the game mechanics but please, give it a chance, it's not a hand-holding, repetitive HOPA game that you could play with your eyes closed...you may just love it, but you have to play more than 2 minutes to really get the hang of it. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Based on demo I spent 2 minutes trying to get through the story. Cartoonish game. To exit I had to go to task manager. Based on the demo this is a no buy for me. It may be a great game but need a way to get past the boring story line. This game also wanted me to download or update something on my computer which I do not do just to play a game.
