Artists of Fortune: Spooky Rush is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Over-The-Top Cartoonish But For Halloween It's Lots Of Fun! I love this series! The images are cute, unique and brightly colored to tickle your Halloween spirit. If the kids can catch onto the painting process, it should be a blast for them because of all the cute Halloween images they uncover. Normally, I do not like cartoonish pics, but with Artists of Fortune games I can easily overlook that. Each "planet" contains 24 Chapters and although the pics are hidden, the title is shown by hovering your mouse over the Chapter. You can paint them in any order, but cannot go to the next planet until all of them are completed. Even with the titles, I never knew what to expect because the artwork is so whimsical and unusual. It was always a little surprise. There are so many colors that it added another level of quality to the game. They are displayed as crayons along the bottom of the screen. Hooray! No more up and down on a fidgety scroll to reach the color you need. They each disappear when all the cells are completed with your chosen color. Filling in the areas of all the same number is a snap with one click on the Paint Pot. It takes a teensy bit for it to refill after each use. I like that you cannot accidentally paint the wrong cell. Only the color you are working with fills in. If you prefer sweeping over the image to save time, this is a great little helper. In our other pixel art game I was always having to undo a mistake. The Zoom Feature and the Map are also very helpful. Since there are not the annoying various shades of grey in the images, it makes finding the numbers so much easier, no eye strain. However I find just the right amount of challenge, considering that it took me the entire demo to finish two pictures. The cursor is a creepy little hand that is precise and moves easily. There are Awards to earn. They are mostly for the number of cells painted and some for time spent. One of them is for 20 hours so that is an indication of a nice long game. Unless some "artists" are speed demons it will last much longer than that, making this a great value. And it's BOGO day! So I'm glad the astronauts are grounded for Halloween and we can enjoy these crazy little pictures, painting away the hours of this favorite "holiday". Try the demo, it's a little different than Pixel Art. I thought the differences enhanced the experience and, for me, it was perfect. By the way, the Microsoft C+ comes with, but I just clicked the "repair" bar and in a split second the game was ready to play. Thanks devs, for stepping out of the box with this fun series!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LOT'S OF YELLOW SHADES WHICH RENDERS THE MAP A BIT USELESS I love the Artists of Fortune series but this one has a ton of yellow shades (understandably because of the Halloween theme) so once you fill in cells with yellow shaded crayons, it renders the really cool map feature kind of worthless because from that point on, you can't differentiate between the yellow cells to be filled-in versus the yellow shades you've already filled in. This has always been a problem on this series, but you can usually work around that by waiting until the end to select the yellow shades, unfortunately, a Halloween-themed game has a ton of yellow shades so most of the time I couldn't use the really cool map feature! Seems to me this issue could be solved by adding a new feature that allows us to change the color of the available cells at will?! (such as purple, red, etc) Other than that, I still think this series is fantastic. I love that the colors are shown as individual Crayons (# or letter specific) at the bottom of the board and once you highlight a crayon, all associated cells will appear in an easy-to-spot yellow color. Even better, there is a Map on the top right corner that shows the image and where all those yellow cells are located within the picture so you'll know exactly where the cells are located! (unless the colors are yellowish) I also love how the cells flip over as you are coloring them and that the cursor tip is a fine point to reduce accidental coloring. The Crayons were so much more authentic versus a table with colored blocks! When you click on a crayon, a tab appears to tell you exactly how many cells are available in that specific color. When all cells are filled in, the associated crayon disappears! There are two difficulty mode options as well, a Relaxed mode, and a more like the real thing mode which doesn't protect the previously colored cells. In this mode, if you accidentally paint a cell that was already colored with a different color, the cell returns to default and the crayon will reappear, requiring you to repaint that cell...how cool is that! (again, if you don't like this feature, choose the relaxed mode!) It may be fun to mix it up a bit from game to game and change the crayons to artists' brushes with different colored tips, or perhaps tubes of paint...maybe even add a bit of texture to the filled-in cells? Some of the cells will reward you with icons that fill the Power-ups, similar to mosaic puzzles. There is an Autofill Powerup that will automatically fill in the desired group of cells, a Rainbow Crayon Powerup that will paint the cells using any color correctly, and a Blockbuster powerup that blasts a rectangular area with the correct color. There are 6 Chapters with 20 puzzles available, and 16 Reward Trophies to earn as well. You cannot visit another Chapter until it's unlocked, but you can choose to play any of the 20 puzzles on the current chapter in any order!
