Living Legends Remastered: Wrath of the Beast Collector's Edition is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE SPIRIT OF GOLDILOCKS RETURNS IN A “BEARY” GOOD GAME. The spirit of Goldilocks and her bears return in this delightful, remastered classic. Play Goldilocks’ prince of a son as he discovers the truth about his past while fighting a force out to destroy his family. With the help of his mother’s ghost, he is off to save his father and his kingdom from being destroyed by an evildoer. I could “bearly” contain my delight in playing this game. The game is much improved from the original classic. The graphics have been heightened and the sound quality is richer. More puzzles and HOP scenes have been added. This a long game and one which I enjoyed playing. Friendly Fox has added some creative touches to this game without altering the format from the original game. Play two characters throughout the game. Play a human and then transform into a bear when bear strength is needed. As a bear you will you use your claws, your sense of smell, and your bite to traverse throughout the game. There are two collectibles, sprites, and morphing runes. I found both difficult to locate. Some of the sprites are blended into the scenes and are difficult to see. I found the morphing runes hard to locate because of their small size. Upon completion of the game, there is an additional picture puzzle which can be played if all the sprites are collected. It consists of two scenes where circular pictures fragments must be exchanged and rotated to complete the final pictures. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 29 achievements. • Collect 76 sprites used to exchange for 5 larger sprites • Collect 34 morphing runes • If all 76 sprites are collected, another picture puzzle with two scenes is made available to play. • 7 Wallpapers along with 5 screensavers, concept art, music, and video sequences • Replay 15 HOP scenes and 18 mini-games BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. The evildoer from the main game is out to revive his beloved once again. Play Goldilocks’ son who is now married to Sheridan from the main game. Their precocious child, Jenny, is lured by the evildoer to assist him in resurrecting his true love. Now you and you wife must save your daughter from this evildoer. I loved this chapter much more than the main game. This chapter is long, creatively designed, and well-worth the price of the collector’s edition. Collect the sprites but not the morphing runes. There are ten (10) HOP scenes and twelve (12) mini-games. There is one puzzle which can be played in either a casual or hard mode. There is an awesome HOP scene within a dollhouse in the inventory. This is the first game I have seen with a HOP scene within an inventory item. HOP SCENES: I counted thirty-nine (39) HOP scenes within the game, fifteen (15) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game They are highly interactive and include lists of items, silhouette, and matching. Most of the scenes are reused for more than one search of items. There is a diary within the game and throughout the main game, items are searched within the pages of the diary to further the story behind the game. There are some beautiful scenes within this game. I particularly enjoyed searching for items on a stained-glass window (which is used twice for searches). MINI-GAMES: There are forty-one (41) puzzles within the game, eighteen (18) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. Most of these puzzles are the original ones from the original game; however, there are new ones included as well. I found most of the puzzles of easy or moderate difficulty. There are three (3) puzzles which can be played in either a casual or hard mode. SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: A. Matching puzzle. Match up 5 keys with their proper keyholes B. Assembly puzzle. Place gears where they belong according to size and shape C. Switch puzzle. Rotate and switch hexagonal picture tiles until an image is created. D. Round maze puzzle. Lead a ball in a circular maze to the center by rotating the grid back and forth. E. Casual/Hard. Complete an image by dragging fragments to where they belong in a circular frame. The easy version has images on the fragments whereas, the hard does not – only shapes to go by. F. Maze puzzle. Move through a dark maze lighting up paths as you proceed. G. Sequence puzzle. Repeat a sequence of lighted skeletons H. Arrange 3 rows and columns of a wind chime so no 2 of the same items are within the same row or column. BONUS CHAPTER: I. Jigsaw puzzle. Place puzzle fragments onto a circular frame to restore an image J. Switch puzzle. Switch zodiac symbols so they are in the proper location K. Switch puzzle. Switch picture tiles for 5 pictures to restore the images of 5 of the game’s characters. L. Casual/Hard. Assembly puzzle Rotate and place mirror shards back into position within the mirror. The hard version does not have a framework as to where to place the shards M. Maze puzzle. Find your way through a labyrinth within a dungeon. N. Switch puzzle. Using a rotating disk in the center of a grid to pick up and move tokens, move 8 tokens to their proper slots around this central disk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just great fun Couple of the puzzles were a bit shady. Other than that a proper HO. HO scenes were old school which I prefer. Recommend this if you have found recent HO games lacking in challenge. This was grand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just One Complaint I never played the original of this games and except for one complaint I enjoyed this. My complaint, some of the mini games have no directions leaving me to try and guess what they wanted or waiting for the hint to recharge.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nostalgic But Far Too Easy, Nothing Exciting This is a "remastered" game from the past. I think its strongest point is the nostalgia factor, but what I really wish is that the developer would focus on making new games instead of remastering old ones! The story is a good one, a nice play on Goldilocks. I think most people will appreciate the different take on a classic story. Other than the story, this is a flop for me, aside from the nostalgia factor. Keep in mind, this game was great in its day, but nowadays, it plays as dated, easy, and boring. As I said, the game plays as an old game. It's too easy, everything is handed to you. There are "puzzles" where you can't figure it out for yourself because they insist on giving you a hand icon where they want you to click and no place else...so the answer is literally handed to you. No challenge and doesn't even count as a game/puzzle. The HOPs have this feature as well, making them irritatingly easy. Let me find it by myself, don't give me a hand that tells me where it is if I accidentally pass over it with my mouse! The HOPs are in that old style where you don't need to look at the list of things to find—they stick out like a sore thumb. Just look for anything that seems like it wasn't naturally designed into the scene. Again, this is a common feature of old games that has been fixed in newer ones. I'm not a fan; it's too easy. The game attempts to keep you occupied with little bits and bobs to click on along the way, mostly pointless time wasters. Basically you'll enter a close-up scene and have a bunch of pieces of glass scattered around. You click each one, and the game puts it into place. Pointless, just something to occupy your time and extend the gameplay. I'm not a fan of that, but some people may enjoy it. Most puzzles are so easy, you don't need to look at the instructions. Today's games have added more complications to the puzzles you'll find here. For example, you simply put pieces in their place (very easy to spot) instead of having to rotate them and also find their place. Super easy. There are two kinds of collectibles: morphing "runes" (they are actually morphing objects of all sorts that turn into runes after you select them) and sprites that are blue and a bit transparent. Most of them are pretty easy to find, but some of the morphs are a little tricky. If you're not sure how many collectibles there are in the scene, click on the little diamond on the left-hand side of the screen to see. I really like that feature. All in all, this wasn't worth remastering. It would be way more worth the developer's time (and our money) to build a new game, start a new series—anything new and challenging.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Another Game DOA I think they lost me when the young man spoke so sadly of not touching his mother, Goldilocks,' things since she died THREE YEARS ago. He then hunted up the items necessary to open the front door - including the second little hunter to get the key to the door away from the bear image. It was in the bottom of the trunk with his mother's things. I guess he didn't leave the house during the last three years either! He went outside and kindly put out the roof flaming over the head of the horse. Luckily the horse didn't mind some ash on his back. Remember this is "the" horse - apparently the town has only one as they speak of it as "the" horse. And naturally there is nothing unusual at finding an ice-encased carriage with the owner along side of it, telling me he was just wounded. This must be instant ice! The only reason to "remaster" a game is to hopefully make it better and move it up to a new level. This one just got wounded and dragged down! Try the demo. Visitation and burial to be announced.
