Mystery Tales: Eye of the Fire is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's NOT ok to burn witches I cannot believe, in this day and age, that the premise for this game is that women who learn about herbs and such are put to death as witches. One woman's spirit returns for revenge and the sanctimonious brotherhood of men come together to hunt her down and destroy her. Really? I can't recommend this game.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Katharina Needs More Help Than This Detective Can Give! Katharina has asked you to come investigate what is giving her severe and constant nightmares. You arrive and find a vengeful evil witch’s spirit determined to keep you busy and away from her plans to turn Katharina into a full fledged witch – the first person born in 500 years with that potential. Unfortunately the Witch’s Spirit has fire in her fingers as well as in her eyes and she's had that 500 years to brood over her perceived wrongs and plan her revenge - Look out, detective! Good stuff: The HOPs were varied and multi-layered with a Match 3 alternative. The VOs were mostly well executed. The mini-games were the expected variety. You have a special pair of glasses to help you see and interact with the past and they don't have to be charged to be used. Bad stuff: The artwork was went from one extreme to the other - fairly well done while doing puzzles and mini-games to horribly blurred for the scenes with the glasses on and the animation segments. The Witch's VOs were overwrought - but she had those 500 years to get there too! The mini-games were child-like. And the special glasses looked into a very blue and odd past. True to recent game norms, the logic quotient of this series addition was astoundingly low - Katharina walking ahead of you and not noticing the fire that explodes between the two of you before you can follow, the life-size stone head floating in a normal size glass wine bottle, and the visions of the 500 year ago past that provided embarrassingly modern "artifacts" like a fire hydrant are a few examples. I sincerely hope you play the demo first. I just got discouraged. The story seemed to have potential that was wasted.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Parents Beware This is not a game I'd like to see young kids playing. I made it through the demo but was turned off by the constant references to people being burned and even one line that "God" had rid the world of witches...presumably by burning them. IMHO, there are many ways to make games that are entertaining and challenging that do not have such a dark plot, especially as this one is based in tragic reality. As far as the challenging aspect, I found the mini games to be quite mundane and the HO scenes nothing out of the ordinary. From a graphics standpoint, I found it somewhat garish but that's just personal taste. On top of that, the devs used that awful font comprised of thick and thin lines which I find hard to read even with my excellent eyesight. All around, this game was bad enough to prompt me to submit this review and I do hope parents will give it a look before allowing their youngsters to play it.
