Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great game, but Quite Violent The Name of the game gives you an idea of what lies ahead. There's a lot of violence in this game. Murder, fist fights, break-ins, kidnappings, blood & police corruption. This is not a game for young kids to play. In general, this game ran very smooth. You can customize your settings. There's no map; you don't need one. Each scene is independent of the others. I found myself drawn into the story line quickly, & it was an easy one to follow. The graphics were great on this, as well as the voice overs. Overall, a great game. Others have said it was too short, however I didn't find that to be the case. Enjoy this one! Happy Gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ~~~THEY'RE COMING FOR YOU BARBARA!!!~~~ It’s quite the rush to find the culprit and solve the mystery, but the game as a whole needs to keep you invested from start to finish, as well as feature a nice cast of character in order to make the whole thing feel believable and engaging. Noir Chronicles: City of Crime is a gritty adventure game with puzzle and hidden object elements, in which you play the role of a detective named Gingertail. The game features the usual gameplay mechanics found in casual HOPAs, so you shouldn’t go in looking for original concepts or anything of the sort. However, at least the riddles can be pretty challenging every now and again. The whole thing starts when Gingertail (Fox) is called to the house of his ex-girlfriend Barbara, where he finds out that she has been murdered. You must conduct the investigation and find the clues to lead you to the culprit, as well as make sure that the detective doesn’t take his revenge too far in the process. The story is not groundbreaking material, but there are enough engaging scenes to make you forget about it. The gameplay formula is as classic as it can get if you are a veteran of the genre, which means that all you have to do is examine every scene carefully and pick up items. These items can then be used to open the way to the next scene, as well as solve the occasional puzzles. Speaking of which, there are all sorts of mini-games when it comes to the puzzles, each one of which requires either coordination or a bit of critical thinking. I could do without the mini-games where you punch the opponent. I just think that's a little juvenile for a mystery adventure. Lastly, the graphics are the same pre-rendered scenes with hand-drawn artwork on top, but they look gorgeous most of the time, and the artists were free to add as much detail as they wanted without impacting the performance. In addition, there’s excellent voice acting for dialog scenes, as well as carefully-chosen sound effects to go along with the action on the screen. Brave Giant may really have a great new series in the works and I'd like to see more games in this series. Hopefully you will too. Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly Enjoyed this Game! Because I was completely enamored by the game I awarded a 5 Star Rating. Both the main game and the bonus game provided a very good story. The difficulty of the game was about right. The challenges one might encounter did not distract from the game players ability to stay focused on the story being told and acted out. I played this game twice already and will be in my game list of must play again. I am anxiously waiting for another game to appear in the series. Please consider NOT introducing a game to the series that contains mythical creatures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noir Chronicles :City of Crime Excellent interesting crime detective game. Nice to play a game that is more realistic rather than fantasy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Adventure I really enjoyed playing this game. Had a dime store James Bond feel - old "B" movie. Quite a romp to solve the murder of your "gorgeous" girlfriend. A few laughs along the way. Not too hard - relaxing pace.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too long or too short, not too hard or too easy, just about right! You might have to be of an age to remember the old detective tv shows and movies... Jack Webb, Humphrey Bogart, etc., even Dick Tracy in the funny papers.... to really appreciate this game. It had everything I like in a game: good graphics, a good balance of HOS and puzzles, fast hint and skip refills, good voice acting, interesting characters. As for reviews mentioning the fisticuffs scenes, they go right along with all the old detective movies. If you don't like 'em, skip 'em, no sweat. I always set hints and skips to the shortest time. That way I can choose to take my time or not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't Wait for the Next One This is posted after playing the entire game. What a wonderful game. I've been waiting for something like this forever and it has arrived. This is the most enjoyable game I've played in a long time. Graphics were well done. I loved the realistic style. It looked as though they used a cut out for the background and then put the characters in, but it worked and worked well. Only difficulty I experienced in the game was with the voice overs. They were excellent with a mixture of British and American accents, but they would cut off before the end of what they were saying. Not all the time, but enough to notice it wasn't part of the game. You need to be a speed reader to catch everything in the boxes. I like to look around the scene before reading, but not in this game. You read them and then look around if you wish. I loved the music. It added so much to the game I became addicted to it. I even turned it up while playing. This was my kind of challenge in a game. There really wasn't anything we haven't seen before, but I was able to do the mini games so apparently there was something changed. There were some repeats like untangling the rope. I hate that one and after a feeble attempt I just skipped it. I recalled three of these during the game. The hidden objects were varied from a list to interactive to silhouettes and everything in-between. There were a lot of hidden objects and I loved that. The map was excellent. It showed where there were things to be done and transported. I'll give one suggestion. Before you leave a scene, be sure you check the map and make sure you have done everything. I didn't and there were a couple scenes, that when I was checking the map for something,, I noticed I had missed an object. Once you leave there is no going back. Obviously it wasn't anything major, but the indicator was still showing something to do. Others will go into depth about the story so I won't bore you with my version. Oh that story. Not only was there a male as the hero for a change, but it caught me from the very beginning and held my attention all the way to the end. The ending surprised me to say the least. I don't think I've ever seen a game end like that. AWESOME!! I just cannot say enough about this game. No ghosts, goblins, witches or other things that go bump in the night. A wonderful breath of fresh air. We need more like this. Give the demo a try and see if it isn't to your liking. If you like tough puzzles, you probably won't care for it, but for me it was excellent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Who Will Knock Fox Out Next? Detective Gingertail Fox is called to help out an old girlfriend. She is being murdered but the bad guy gives her time to make a phone call! This is all a mild send-up of old Film Noir mysteries. We will help Fox find Barbara's killer, eventually, if he stops getting knocked out! Good stuff: I really liked the artwork - most of it seemed really well done. The characters were a bit over the top and their dialogue a bit cheesy - as in the old films. There were a variety of HOPs and puzzles. Bad stuff: Logic flaws abound - the drill you put together uses the DRILL BIT to UNSCREW a grate. You see silhouettes passing windows of a SLIM figure in a hoodie and never check to see who it is - and then the BIG hulking bad guy shows up to knock you out again. There are, of course, more flaws, but not as egregious as a lot of recent games! Also I could have easily done without the fight puzzles. But there is lots to do and the story is a mystery. And since there is no actual necessity for an SG, the game is a better value in an SE and got an extra star for that fact. All and all an OK effort, but not a barnburner! Give the Demo a try and see if you want to be a rough and tough detective!
