Haunted Hotel: Lost Dreams is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from What happened This is/was one of those series I typically got very excited about a new one. However, this one left me very disappointed. First of all, I completed the entire game in about 2 hours way shorter them most of them. The voice acting which typically adds to the creepy vibe of these games was just blah. I truly hope this is not a trend for this series. One game of the series I can not bring myself to recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why Should I Care About Mark and Jane? The opening animation shows a man walking to the edge of a cliff. He is holding a glowing crystal in his hand. When he gets to the edge of the cliff, he looks down on smoke billowing from twisted train cars below him. The game opens with Jane and Mark talking in their train car. Within seconds, the lights go out and everything goes dark for Mark. He awakens in what looks to be a hotel room, somewhat decrepit, with a locked door to the hall and a rusted handle on the only other exit in the room. After puzzles and HOPs, Mark has figured out this is the Schneider Hotel and Spa. He makes it out to the hall and eventually is led onward by Jane. She is in a wheel chair, and constantly out of reach, and calling to Mark. Good stuff: There are HOPs, mini-games/puzzles, and a scant story. Bad stuff: The story is so light on details, it should float. Mark is chasing after Jane, with occasional glimpses of an alien presence and shifting scenes. There will surely be something bad going on - after all this is an entry in the Haunted Hotel series - but it will take some digging to get more details out of this game. Meanwhile you will find that each locked object seemed to have more than one amulet to open it and, sometimes, multiple objects/amulets/pieces to open multiple sections of a single box/cabinet/drawer. Since there were only bits and pieces of the supposed tragedy involving the Schneider family and only seconds of dialogue between Jane and Mark, it was hard to care about what was going on or about the characters. Add to that the familiar puzzles and how quickly the demo was completed, and it is easy to walk away from this HH series game. Please try the demo. The game is tamer than the last couple in this series and this one may be the one you want.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I Want James Back!! This is posted after playing the demo. This game was okay. Not a lot of excitement in the demo or anything to make me say it was fun. Just okay in my book. Graphics were well done and the sound, especially the voice overs, what there were of them, were good. The dialog was really missing in this one. Constant, "Got to save my wife" is not my idea of a good dialog. The colors were fine for the genre of game... a bit on the dark side, but expected. The effects went along with the action in the scene. Hidden objects were varied from list to silhouettes, my least favorite. There wasn't anything new in the mini games I could see. Pretty much the same thing we have all the time. There is quite a bit of back and forth so the interactive map really came in handy. Others will go into depth about the story, but I'll just say that in that short demo, there just wasn't anything to attach me to the characters or really care about what was going to happen. It just lacked something... like a caring figure. It's put together rather haphazardly with little to join everything together. It's possible that as the game goes on it will develop, but there isn't enough there for this to be a purchase for me. I really do miss James. He was always there and it seemed to make the games more interesting. Play the demo, which as I said is very short, and perhaps you will find something that I missed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Really short game with a disappointing story I have played all of the previous Haunted Hotel games and have enjoyed them. However, there's a lot more than dreams that are 'lost' in this game. First, I had to constantly keep adjusting the gamma intensity from one scene to the next. And sometimes that didn't work either. Scenes were often blurry or so poorly drawn that lightening or darkening them really didn't help. While the story line was a bit different from others, it was poorly written and not fleshed out enough. The reason I was performing certain tasks really didn't make sense according to the dialogue I had just read. And speaking of tasks, if you choose custom mode you will not be able to rid yourself of the annoying task pop-ups during the game. Not sure why developers offer turning off that option but then do what they want anyway. Puzzles were not fun at all to solve, in fact I found them boring. And it didn't help that the instructions were often vague or didn't make any sense. I normally love the puzzles more than anything else, but found myself skipping quite a few of them. I don't want to spoil the ending, so I'll just say that it was really abrupt and left key characters and issues hanging. We are given a ninety minute trial period, so I stupidly assumed the game was a long one and purchased it. I was hoping the story would be better explained as the game continued, but I was shocked to see I got to play for only an hour longer and then the game was over. I didn't buy the collector's edition because there wasn't enough bling. But I'm sad I waited for the standard edition's release only to be totally disappointed with it.
