Rated 5 out of 5 by from HALLOWEEN CHRONICLES 3 WAS A SPOOK-TACULAR GAME FOR ME!!! I predict this years annual Halloween Chronicles edition will be met with "thundering applause"...it really does deserve Editor's Choice award without hesitation or pause! Domini Games exceeding my expectations with this latest edition, most likely destined to become a "Fan Favorite". It's also a fun-filled mystery full of your favorite iconic characters including: Vampires, Ghosts, Witches, and even a talking Jack-o-lantern! So if you're itching for some excitement then journey to Scratchtown to help Uncle Pierre and his relatives fight for their lives against these creepy characters including the villainous Vampire Walter. (Walter? LOL...I had to laugh when I learned his name was Walter...out of all the notorious names for Vampires they chose Walter)! Last years Halloween Chronicles: Evil Behind A Mask was released to much fanfare. This year, Domini Games is back to deliver another playful Halloween gem. On the storyline front, Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family is exactly what I needed to start off the Halloween Holiday. The storyline is definitely something that has been refreshed and revamped in the right direction for the HOPA genre and the game progression is definitely less predictable this time around. Also, it is the cleverly creative Halloween-themed elements that make the game a step above the generic! Each scene is filled to the brim with playful thematic elements and decorative pieces, some of which you can interact with. The fantastic graphics and special effects work in conjunction to offer an immersive and fun Halloween gaming experience. Even Domini Games’ signature saturated colors are not distracting in this context. Instead, they give the game a more suspenseful and creepy vibe, preventing it from being a totally childish game. In the audio department, the campy music and sound effects are flawless and the voice-overs are perfect too. When it comes to the gameplay, Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family is comparable to Elephant Games’ new Halloween release Halloween Stories: Defying Death. While I enjoyed both games Elephant's Defying Death did not fully realize it's full potential by featuring mundane adventure gameplay elements and cookie-cutter puzzles. I personally found Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family the more enjoyable one of the two, mainly due to its highly imaginative hidden object scenes and full-on commitment to the festive Halloween theme! For me Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family was a relatively long game, clocking in around the six and a half hours mark. The bonus chapter also adds another hour to the game’s length. The Collector’s Edition also includes wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, a trophy room, and morphing objects. Cheers and Happy Halloween! Also in this series: Monsters Among Us Evil Behind A Mask Cursed Family

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally-A Game I would Even Like to Try! Finally, a Halloween game (or any game) worth even trying. The games in the daily section have been just HORRIBLE lately, not even worth spending a credit on. Unless a game is part of my "collection" I do not normally purchase the CE. I will wait until the standard version comes out and then will purchase this game. Gameplay is standard Domini (predictable), but the theme is good, graphics/sound are good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Halloween game ever!! I've played Halloween HOPAs before and was always somewhat disappointed in them for one reason or another but I could not find anything about this game to be disappointed about. It was so much fun with great HOs (even a silhouette progressive that I've never seen Domini do before) with puzzles that SEEMED equal in number although that wasn't the case. Maybe that's because they didn't interfere with the flow and storyline or maybe it's because they were so smart to include some that those of us who normally have to skip them all could actually do and enjoy. Who knows? All I know is I had been waiting for this game and it was a real Halloween treat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Mildly Spooky Tale From Domini Games has brightened up my Halloween mood with this frightful family get- together, courtesy of Uncle Pierre. Reunions are so much fun! Or are they??? So far I am enjoying the story, being into the game for about 2+ hours. Domini always comes through with fine entertainment in a CE package worth my time and money/credits. This fun game is full of eye-candy, my favorite treat in Halloween tales. It will take me quite a long while to finish it, since I love to take my time inspecting all the scenery. I love the interactivity with objects in each scene. Click on them, you will enjoy an unexpected little extra. There is much to keep you busy in this game which moves along at a good clip. The tasks don't interfere with the pace and the Halloween theme hasn't gone off-course. All the activities will keep you nicely entertained. The HOPs and mini-games are all really fun. I am not a puzzle fan, but the choice of easy/hard for many of the puzzles is helping me to endure. The HOPs are varied and stick with the theme for the most part, and there is an optional Match 3 game as well. I am so thankful for the collectibles indicator once again. It is such a helpful feature for those of us who hate to overlook an item. I think all developers should provide them. Sometimes the fun can be diminished, just trying to keep track of everything. This game is very colorful and the scenes are full of fun Halloween stuff. The Domini graphics are wonderful, as usual. I love the looks of the characters, they are well rendered. The music was okay, I typically turn down the volume, as it sometimes is distracting in any game. I am anxious to start the Bonus Chapter, I hope it follows through with the events and characters from the main game. Cursed Family should appeal to all skill levels and age groups. It is good entertainment, the story is full of features and little surprises that makes it another winner from Domini. I used 2 credits to purchase and it is proving to be a smart choice for me and what I like in a Halloween themed game. I hope you try the demo and find it enjoyable, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Immediate buy when I saw (4) 5 star ratings for first reviews Glad I bought. When I was going to download the demo there were already 4 .. 5 star reviews. Enough that I was like I am buying this right away before even doing demo. Great graphics... LOVE that you can PLAY with things in the background... like skeletons, balloons. VEry interactive... and enjoyable... You should be disappointed if you buy right away before doing demo. Puzzles done in the first 1/2 hr were very challenging on hard and loved them... Love a good challenge with mini puzzles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scary !!! I thouroghly enjoyed this demo and am looking forward to purchasing it. The graphics are excellent, the plot has some twist in the story that will make you guessing. I found it scary and very appropriate for Halloween.. I specially enjoy being able to interact with items in the decor, thanks to Domini for this one. They nailed it. As usual, try it to see if you agree with me..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ENJOY A “FANG-TASTIC” HALLOWEEN WITH BLOOD RELATIVES! REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 4 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 45 pages (My time: 5 Hours) STORY: Enjoy a “fangtastic” Halloween with some long-lost blood relatives at a family reunion. Visit your Uncle Pierre and his family as he hosts a Halloween fair in Scratchtown. There is a hidden reason why your long-lost uncle invited you and one which will trap you within their home. Heed a word of advice! Do not venture into the basement in this home! A monstrous family secret is hidden there and lurking behind the scene is someone out for blood! OPINION: What a Halloween treat! No tricks here. Just a nice game for the whole family to enjoy. It is decked out for Halloween with pumpkins, vampires, witches, ghosts, and candy galore. It is a fast-paced game with a thematic story and plenty of activities to keep the player engaged. Domini always provides more game for the money, providing those little extras most developers do not provide in their games. This one is no exception. One of my favorite features is the indicator at the top of the inventory bar which alerts the player when a collectible is within a scene. I like this feature and wish more developers offered it within their games. There are some hidden surprises as well. Clicking on items will cause them to move or make sounds. For example, in the bonus chapter, one can pop all the balloons in one of the scenes by clicking on them. This another feature which adds a novel feature to the game. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 38 achievements. • Collect 15 voodoo dolls and 15 potion ingredients • Collect 83 rings which can be exchanged to purchase items to dress a skeleton residing in a coffin • 15 wallpapers along with concept art, music, and video sequences • Replay 18 mini-games and 18 HOP scenes at the end of the game BONUS CHAPTER: There is always someone trying to lure you off your diet! Play Mara, a vampire who is trying to kick her bloodsucking ways. She has been on a blood-free diet for three months with the help of her friend; however, now her obsessive, controlling ex-lover, Lucian is trying to entice her back into her old vampire lifestyle. Since he won’t take no for an answer, she is off to seek help from Pierre Sullivan, the illusionist from the main game. Join Mara as she tries to return to her human form. I found this chapter equal in quality to that of the main game. I found the story amusing and I liked this chapter a little better than the main game. There are five (5) HOP scenes and six (6) mini-games. It is well-worth the price of the collector’s edition. HOP SCENES: There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes, and all can be replayed at the end of the game. Most of the scenes are thematic with Halloween items throughout the scenes. They vary in style and are beautifully illustrated. There are the usual lists of items and silhouette scenes. There are also some of my favorites – the search and replace scenes in which the player searches for items and then returns them to the scene to interact with the scene. There are also those scenes in which items are located based on a small sampling of the item to be removed. Don't want to play a scene? You can opt to play a Match-3 game instead. MINI-GAMES: Our “puzzlemeisters” have outdone themselves with most puzzles being offered in either an “easy” or “hard” mode. There are twenty-seven (27) mini-games. Eighteen (18) of these can be replayed at the end of the game. The difficulty for the puzzles can be set in the game menu; however, if the puzzles seems to difficult or too easy, the difficulty can be changed while playing the game. SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: (E = Easy; H = Hard) A. E/H. Mathematical puzzle. Place 3 tokens, a vampire, a werewolf, and a jack-o-lantern on numbered slots on a grid so that the total of the numbers equals 94. Each token multiplies the number upon which it is placed by 1, 2 or 4. The vampire – by 4, werewolf by 2, and the jack-o-lantern by 1. Easy version does not multiply the numbers on the slots B. E/H. Arcade puzzle. Bop the monsters. Hit all one-eyed monsters to win the game. In the hard version player needs to hit 10 monsters - the easy version, only 8. C. E/H. Sequence puzzle. Rotate valves in the proper sequence so that all gauges have arrows within a green area. Moving one valve affects the others. D. E/H/ Strategy puzzle. On a 5 x 5 grid, fill in each of 25 squares with symbols so that none are alike in each row, column and the two diagonals within the grid. Easy is a 4 x 4 grid with only 16 squares E. Assembly puzzle. Move feather pieces on a circular grid so none touch each other. BONUS CHAPTER: F. E/H. Maze puzzle. Lead an itsy, bitsy spider through a maze avoiding obstacles within its path. Use a map to help the spider through the maze. The easy version has less obstacles G. Beat the computer. Collect more green tokens than your opponent’s red ones. Move forward to spaces as designated. If you land next to a red token, it will turn red and vice versa. End up with more of your tokens than your opponent’s. H. E/H. Assembly puzzle. Arrange cloaked figurines so a magic sphere appears between their hands. The easy version has some of the figurines locked in place. In the hard version, all figurines must be moved.
