Grim Tales: Echo of the Past Collector's Edition is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from No echo's in this past Very good game that is better than most here lately . One search for items to use in the game to help along the game. I thought it was not short but many games here lately have been short so makes this game seem longer. Graphics are very good with it being a mellow game so not spooking which might be reason some think it is boring.Story line was good with voice actors getting better. I think Richard was in the bonus game towards the end . He has writing on his forehead. Bonus game is as good as the main game with extra's to do after the game by searching for items just like the other games in this series . Try the free part and if you like it buy the game as it is semilar through out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time and thought put into creating this game This game reminds me of the great older games where the creator put a lot of thought into making a more creative kind of game play. Reminds me of how much fun the earlier games were before game makers started using the same template for each new game!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from UNCOVERING FAMILY SKELETONS BY CREATING FAMILY ATTACHMENTS REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 35 pages (My Time: 6 Hours) Enjoy another family reunion for Anna Gray and her ever expanding brood. Family secrets are revealed in the latest chapter of this neverending family drama for our time bending heroine. In this episode, Anna and her teen daughter, Alice, discover more family skeletons hiding in their attic – this time Anna meets a new family member, an aunt, her mother’s sister - someone her mother just forgot to tell her about. Auntie has been hanging out in the attic as a puppet for years. When auntie literally attaches herself to Alice, Anna must travel through time to save her daughter and restore familial harmony. I liked, but did not love, this game. To me, this is a decent game; however, in my humble opinion, it is not worthy of a collector’s edition designation. To me, it is a carbon copy of the other games within this series. I cannot see anything within this game which is any different from every other game in this series. I found the pace slowed in some segments of the game. My general feeling is that this is standard fare providing very little in the way of exceptional content or creative design. There are only two collectibles and there are not many of them within the game. Collect screensaver fragments and theater props. I found all easy to locate. As the game progresses, Anna’s mother, Anastasia, becomes your helper, sitting on the inventory bar, giving you needed materials to defeat the evildoer. As in their other games, there is an expedition room which allows the player to return to scenes to search for missing collectibles. There is also a secret room as in other games which allows the player to locate more collectibles within the scenes from the game. As in other games, this activity is timed. An Archives room contains the HOP scenes and mini-games which can be replayed. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • 22 achievements. • Collect 24 screen saver parts and 12 theater props • 5 wallpapers along with 2 screensavers, concept art, music, and video sequences • Replay 13 HOP scenes and 13 mini-games hidden within the Archives room. • Expedition room allows the player to return to scenes to search for missing collectibles • Secret room allows players to return to the game scenes and collect more items. This is timed. BONUS CHAPTER: It is a prequel. Go back in time and learn how Anna’s mother, Anastasia, met her father, Richard Gray. Also learn some more history concerning Anna’s mother, her sister, and Richard as they try to stop smother mother, Eleanor, from resurrecting her son, Lars. I found this a decent chapter and did enjoy the storyline within this chapter. There are four (4) HOP scenes and six (6) min-games. There are also several mini-HOP scenes with six (6) items to locate. One element I did like in this game was the last part of the game in which symbols are collected to accumulate power used to defeat the evildoer. HOP SCENES: There are thirteen (13) HOP scenes, all of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. There are also several mini-HOP scenes with six (6) items to be located. I was somewhat disappointed in the HOP scenes. I found most boring, lacking the creative design seen from other developers. They are not very interactive, and most are either straight lists of items or silhouette. There are some matching scenes and there is a replacement scene in which items are returned to the scene. However, overall, I was not wowed by the HOP scenes. MINI-GAMES: To me, they are the best part of the game. There are twenty-one (21) mini-games, thirteen (13) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. Most of the puzzles have been seen in other games; however, I do feel they are much better than the HOP scenes. There are some creatively designed puzzles within this game. SPOILERS: HERE IS A SAMPLING OF SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: A. Connection puzzle. Awesome puzzle in which fans are connected so that the patterns on the fans match with at least one pattern on connecting fans. B. Switch puzzle. On a circular wheel, switch tokens with symbols on them so they are placed on the wheel matching the color and the symbol posted at the top of the wheel C. Maze puzzle. In a fog-filled grid, find your way out of a maze You must set up your path in 12 moves and press a button to check if it is correct. BONUS CHAPTER: D. Sequence puzzle. Play a melody by pressing on pictures sequentially on a piano keyboard which pictures are somehow related to the pictures on a musical score. E. Paint-by-Number puzzle. Paint a mask so that adjoining areas are not the same color F. Bullseye Puzzle. Shoot ‘em’ up. In an arcade shooting game, shoot symbols portrayed on sacks which are the same as those posted on a sideboard. There are 8 symbols to shoot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice try but no The game looks beautiful enough, but it's too simple. You can almost play it with your eyes closed. The storyline is ok but only too familiar. We've seen this kind of puppet tric so often. Aside from this but to me the most important: the absence of Richard with his typical comments and advices. Without him no buy as far as I'm concerned. Maybe this game is worth the standard price, but certainly not that of a CE.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ECHO OF THE PAST***IN THE PAST GAMES WERE FANTASTIC***NOW WE GET THIS?? Completed Game approximately 4.5 hours (including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter) 20 Main Game Scene Locations +6 Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner What happened to Grim Tales? In the beginning, this was one of my top 10 favorite HOPA series (start playing the series from the beginning, you won't regret it!) The story was really good but then for some odd reason, Elephant took a 180-degree turn, adding new characters, and ditching beloved ones. Grim Tales started morphing into a saga that was far from the original plot, wandering all over the place as if they had forgotten what the saga was about. Eventually, they settled into a story that focused on Anna Gray's time-traveling character and her dead daddy Richard as her otherworldly sidekick. Admittedly, I wasn't crazy about the new path Grim Tales had embarked upon, but eventually, I became a fan of Richard's sarcastic personality and the fact that Anna lugged her daddy's skull around in her purse. Grim Tales is morphing again as Anna seems to be passing the torch on to her only daughter Alice...if she ever makes it through her childhood because she's been kidnapped twice now in the few games offered since her introduction! If my daughter was kidnapped I would be inconsolable and moving mountains to find her yet both times Anna nonchalantly goes about her investigation as if this were the next-door neighbor's dog that went MIA??? It's bad enough that the developers can't keep up with their own plot, but they never seem to bother to listen to all the reviewers who keep asking for games with decent gameplay, NOT a game whose only challenge involves placing an emblem of the right shape! Cut glass with glass high heels? Mannequin body parts hidden within a brick wall? Cutting a perfect Windstar out of a thick piece of wood using a chisel and hammer? (and of course, it fits perfectly without any adjustments) REALLY? If the developer doesn't care, why should I? BONUS CHAPTER: (Collector's Edition version only) Travel back in time to the days where Anastasia and Richard first met. Naturally, there's evil-doing going on as momma Elanor tries to bring her son back from the dead. There are 6 additional Mini-Games and 4 Hidden Object Scenes. After completing the Bonus Chapter, you'll gain entry to the Archives, Expedition, and Secret Rooms. COLLECTOR'S EDITION EXTRA'S: 1 Wallpaper, 1 Jigsaw Fragment Puzzle Screensaver, 5 Music Soundtracks, 22 Achievements, 12 Collectible Theater Props, 24 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Fragments, a Secret Room (return to scenes in a timed scavenger hunt) Expedition Room (return to scenes to search for missed Collectibles & Jigsaw Puzzle Fragments) Archives Room (replay 13 Hidden Object Scenes and 13 Mini-games) 3 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. Rated 3 out of 5 by from What happened to Grim Tales I love this series but what happened? Richard is not in this one, and the game was boring. Way too short for a collectors edition. The story starts out with you already in a puzzle, no info on what you are doing there. Then it falls flat in the middle, do the people turned to puppets get saved, I don't know it never mentions them again. I expect more from Elephant games than this.
