Customer Reviews
Detectives United: Deadly Debt Collector's Edition is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A LOT OF FUN... AND A BIT CONFUSING Full game + bonus chapter Because of the negative reviews, I rushed to buy Deadly Debt. I mean, it's part of a fun series, I love Agent Brown, and it's from Elephant Games! How bad can it be? And I always buy the games in this series anyway. Well, here you go - 1. I will no longer write reviews from the viewpoint of the exasperated long-time gamer. But we do need to inform our game developers in Eastern Europe that the engine in a VW is in the back. They keep getting it wrong, so gentle intervention is desperately needed. 3. Where's Richard Gray? Not sure, but I vaguely remember an episode in which Anna's dad became a nice guy, no more snappy snarky comments delivered in a satin voice for us to groan at. Dang. 4. For the Intermediaries and Experts - There are no segues between character changes, so you're here one second and at an unidentified somewhere else the next. It's a bit dizzying. Same with the bonus chapter, which begins with an unexplained premise. It's supposed to be a sequel to the main game, but again we're scratching our heads, wondering what the heck the detectives are talking about. Not good. On movie sets there is a job title called "Continuity Person" (old days - "script gal"). This is the person who ensures that a movie meshes together from scene to scene. Have yet to find a casual game dev team that has one. 5. The 5 star reviews show that a lot of people had a blast playing the demo and seem to have have headed for the checkout counter. Good. I love seeing happy gamers. By the same token, starting with the last episode in the Haunted Hotel series, things have been a bit off at Elephant Games - a world class casual game developer - and I get the feeling, based on research and experience, that they may be focusing more on creating popular game apps for our phones. Normally, anything Elephant is pretty much an auto-buy for us old-timers. For a complete list of their games, search 'elephant games' and click on 'games'. Clicking on any of the games will take you to the game's page on Big Fish. They are all 4 and 5 star games. The wrap up is that while sequencing may be in the toilet in this episode, and while there are a couple of same-old-same-old tasks, you won't need a fan/hat to wave away any smoke or steam, you won't need to feed the animals again and again, the laws of physics are upheld, and save for one instance, what you are supposed to find in the HO scenes is correct. So make a fresh pot, grab your favorite creamer, and steam ahead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Winner! I don't read any reviews before I try a game. In this case I'm so very glad I didn't. The ratings were so low, I thought my goodness this must be bad. Wrong! This is another win for Elephant and this franchise. How can one go wrong with these three detectives? Ticked every box for me, good storyline, generous game play, visually stunning, and fun! Very well done Elephant Games!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Detectives United:Debt Collector's I REALLY ENJOYED THIS GAME. I have played all of the games in this series. I don't know why some gamers rated this game so so "low". This game follows the USUAL of this.series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More sleuthing! I love these detective games and this one is no exception. Though the puzzles are easy I enjoy not having to strain my brain. It is good to have a relaxing game occasionally and this would be an excellent start for beginners. I definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fascinating! Wow, this never ever happened to me before (and i'm playing HOPAs since at least 10 years): i played the whole demo and in one session. I just couldn't stop playing. And i don't even like detective stories so much, usually they give me nightmares, but these developers are so great and the storyline is so intriguing. This is an amazing astonishment for me that i did play the whole demo without even feeling the time pass. Thank you so much developers, now i have to buy it :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have you people never watched a sci fi movie??? This game was great! This game followed along the lines of the 1st four in the series. You have always played as 3 different characters. I never used the guide so did not care how long it was. The few times I used the hint I felt stupid because it was obvious what I should have done. It was fun and engaging. I don't understand the negative reviews and did not hesitate to purchase the game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from VERY good game, thank god I didn't read the reviews ;-) Everything is very good, albeit a bit confusing, but when minigames are fun and logic, the voiceacting terrefic to, then there's no need to hesitate. Not the best in the series, but in no way bad, albeit a bit confusing. And the atmosphere is good to. An to me it's a BIG bonus, that there are no minigames, with only relies on trial'n'error kind or simple luck, with to many games have been polluted with. So for people who likes (not even love) Detectives United, this is a no brainer. Buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3 superstar detectives Good good but not the best one in this series. I do like this series and don't mind the bouncing around back and forth among the 3 Detectives. You do search for many items to help along the way but most are used rather quickly. Not spooky or real suspenseful. The game is ok in length with the bonus round a little short but maybe a little better done than the main game. Some of the puzzles are a little hard but most are easy. Some are time consuming. The bonus part is better than most of the new games coming out. If you like Detective games with some supernatural hint to it this will be a good game . Get it at a discount. Try the demo and if you like it the rest of the game is similar.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better Game Than the Review Ratings I enjoyed the complexity of the storyline, in particular its depth, although it is a bit obtuse at times, and I am not referring to the changing out of detectives (a feature I have always enjoyed in this series). Overall, it feels the game was rushed into development so there are some technical flaws (not glitches that affect the game) and gaps in the storyline but there is also a lot of nuance in the plot. That was my focus and overall, the pace and game play were well integrated. I wish Elephant Games had taken a bit more time before releasing the game because it could be an easy 5.0 game. Kudos for a bonus chapter that pulls together the main game, mostly. Again, this could have been brilliant. My 4.0 rating is for what might have been. Keep it up, Elephant Games. I like the changes you are making. Just take your time.
