Rated 5 out of 5 by from SWEET & ADDICTIVE! Just like the treat itself.... PLAYING the game, Cake Shop II, is both addictive and SWEET! No calories though, in fact, chances are, you'll burn some calories just through sheer adrenaline keeping up with serving your customers and maintaining accurate orders. I enjoyed the first one, too; the graphics quality has definitely come up a couple notches and the story has shifted somewhat... I'm happy to own both and hope you enjoy them as well. So... Check it out... definitely well worth the full price and a steal at DD ~ LUCKY YOU!! :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly fun With the series unusual game mechanics, I found myself really enjoying playing this game, and although I don't particularly care for the CG models, the overall visual design was quite pleasant and especially the drawn art of the main character. The difficulty was sufficiently challenging, however the reward system for your gameplay wasn't very satisfying. How much you managed to earn in each day became redundant, as did shopping for upgrades. You were only allowed to purchase an upgrade or new item when the game allowed you to, and you could choose only one from a selection of three. You also could not choose to forgo purchasing anything. Money became meaningless as you could afford anything and everything due to this, and you end up accumulating a massive amount of wealth that only gets spent at the very end of the game - when you choose a holiday package to see an ending screen of Emily on holiday. That was particularly quite frustrating and did not feel rewarding in any way, as you never got to utilise the profits from your hard work. I managed to earn an expert level for every single day and so purchased the most expensive package out of the three available, and I still only got a screen of Emily on holiday before the game ended. I don't know what the ending would be like if I purchased the other two, but I suspect it'll be slight variations of the same ending cutscene, which in my opinion, again makes your hard work meaningless and unrewarding Despite this, the upgrades you were forced to choose did allow for variation in gameplay that increased the difficulty and mixed things up. This is actually a game I would play a second time, despite my complaints of the shop system and satisfaction; the gameplay was just that stimulating on its own

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun but not challenging As an advanced gamer, I found this game to be way too easy. I was constantly waiting for customers to come in the door, tapping my fingers as I watched the timer tick down. I rarely got less than a gold on the first try without using any boosts, and when I did have to replay a silver level, I only had to use the "freeze" boost to keep up. (As a side note, they addressed this complaint in Cake Shop 3.) That being said, it was a fun and graphically pleasing counter cafe game. Anything I disliked about it went along with the "not enough going on" theme: Tips rarely make a difference in achieving gold and money is pointless because you always have enough to keep building the next cafe. It was much longer than the original, which was great, and there were a variety of machines to use. If you're looking for something tough, I would recommend Cake Shop 3 or Burger Shop 2. If you're looking for something easy to medium, this is definitely the game for you.
