Echoes of the Past: Royal House of Stone is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Classic I call it a classic, and not an "old" game, because it really stands out from the other Hidden Object (HO) games of the time. And, yes, it *is* a HO game, but in fact it is more than that. For one thing, even the HO scenes come in two types. There is the usual type in which you have to find and click on objects listed for you. You have a certain number of hints, but you can increase that number by finding mirrors in this type of HO scene. In fact, there are two such mirrors in each of these HO scenes. The other type of HO scene requires you to find several of the *same* object. For example, you might be asked to find 12 or more rings in one such scene. After you have found all of them, you get a matching puzzle that allows you to eliminate all but one of these objects. The one that is left is the one that you need to progress in the game. But note: there are no mirrors in such HO scenes, so you cannot increase your number of available hints by solving these HO scenes. There are other kinds of puzzles in the game as well, some of them a bit tricky, but all of them are fun *and* fair. The storyline is quite interesting as well. The graphics are great, and the music quite fitting and enjoyable. In short, this is a game that *everyone*, kids or adults, should enjoy! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent adventure game! If you enjoy an adventure game where you actually have to think, this may be the game for you. It's not as good as a Nancy Drew game but I enjoyed it more than many other adventure games I've played. The puzzles are not too difficult and the objects in HO scenes are mostly relevant to the time period, although some objects are small and difficult to see at times. The hints are not true hints so there's no in-game help other than the book/journal that writes down conversations and game progress. I did need to refer to the BFG walkthrough once to figure out how to move the barrel in the kitchen (click on it a few times and it rolls). You will have to go back and forth between rooms within the castle, but this mostly flows within the game and I didn't find it irritating. Inventory items are used fairly soon and I never had more than a handful to deal with. Overall, I enjoyed the story and found the game an enjoyable way to entertain myself for a few hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right mix I really enjoyed this series. The stories were interesting, mini puzzles good and just enough challenge without being frustrating. I've actually played this and the other Echoes of the Past games more than once!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great start to the series What else can I say - I thoroughly enjoyed it, as my rating attests. Gameplay-wise, this game follow the "Return to Ravenhearst" model, which has grown increasingly in popularity since: You travel between locations freely (gaining access to more & more locations as the game progresses), and in those locations you'll find HOG scenes, from which you'll obtain an item upon completion. The items is then used somewhere else, just like in a classic adventure game. Puzzles will also act as a way to (temporarily) restrict your access.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging but fun I was looking for a game as good as Dark Parables. This is not quite as good but a close second. The story line is good. The graphics excellent. I gave visual/sound quality only 4 stars because I always turn down the sound, so I cannot really comment on sound quality. The HOGs are quite challenging. Some of the things are so small that you really have to hunt. But that is the whole point of HOGs. The puzzles are very different than anything I have played so far. They can be difficult, so I am glad that there is a walk through available. I had to utilize it a few times to finish a puzzle, But that did not take away from my enjoyment of this game. I am so looking forward to playing the two sequels. This is worth the price of the SE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Echoes of the past One of three installments, all enjoyable and enthralling to puzzle over and spend your time with fun and the right amount of puzzling. What can I say, buy it and you will see; an enjoyable story, beautiful graphics and fun, fun, fun. Thank you, BFG

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good installment in Echoes series I've played all three parts of this series. My favorite is still Citadels of time but this was a strong part of the series and better than the first The Castle of Shadows. The mini-games are challenging but not overly so, nor are they too easy. Nice balance. The Hidden Object Scenes are really quite challenging and very well done. There are many of them. Navigating the palace was relatively straight forward and the game was interesting and varied. The mini-games could probably have been a bit more difficult but really not too bad. This is a good HO game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wicked Cool I really enjoyed this game, with its awesome story line & nifty puzzles, which were of moderate difficulty . . . The hidden object scenes frequently had items that you used to interact with the scene to uncover other hidden items . . . My one major complaint was that the resolution of the graphics was such that it was extremely difficult to find some of the really small items in a number of the hidden object games . . . You start out with a limited number of hints, but can add to the total by finding a pair of mirrors in each hidden object scene, which is explained at the beginning of play . . . I did love the atmosphere & beautifully rendered backgrounds, even if finding hidden objects was made more difficult at times . . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An old favourite I have just replayed this game for the umpteenth time and enjoyed it as much this time as I did the first. I find the balance between HOS, puzzles and inventory items just about perfect but I am a HO addict! Although you are directed back to the scenes it is to hunt for something different so that is not so irritating. Although there is no map the scenes are fairly easy to navigate and there is not too much backtracking. The dialogue does not dominate the storyline and is almost a rest between chapters! The first time I played it took 2hours 40 minutes this time one hour and forty minutes. I like that I can attempt to beat myself. Some reviewers must have different versions to mine as I did not know of any morphing objects. What am I missing?
