Rated 3 out of 5 by from A simple, basic game The Ashford family is in financial trouble, having sold all of their most prized possessions with no relief in sight. Florence's father has decided that the only solution is for Florence to marry into a wealthy family on the condition all of their debts are paid. Florence has agreed and travels to the mansion of the man she is to marry to meet the man and prepare for the wedding. While freshening up in her room, she finds a disturbing message that indicates things are not as they seem. Interaction with the butler, housekeeper and a house guest provides further evidence that things are not right. When she finally meets the man who she is to marry, she decides to write her father and tell him things are not right but before the letter can be sent, her future husband refuses to have the letter mailed and she is locked in her room as a prisoner. Your mission is to escape, find the truth and expose the fraud going on here. Not a bad story and adventure with some puzzles and HOS sprinkled throughout. An older style game with no voiceovers, pleasant music and good basic graphics where most all objects are easy to find. Casual setting provides guidance through the entire game so gameplay is fairly easy regardless of experience level. Other than being locked in her room, there is no violence.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too Short, Too Easy, Too much Hand Holding, but Worth $2.99 DD Secret Diaries of Florence Ashford. Florence’s family has fallen on some hard times and all possessions that are not absolutely necessary have already been sold to protect the families good name but was still not enough. The Marquis Henry Buckleburg, has agreed to pay off the family debts and restore the family fortune, in exchange for their daughter’s hand in marriage. The Marquis sent his carriage to bring Florence to Buckleburg Manor. Florence arrives with a letter of introduction from her father which the butler has her leave on the entry table and Florence settles into her room and prepares to freshen up after the long trip so she can make a good first impression on her future husband. While combing her hair and applying more face powder in front of the fireplace mirror, her excess face powder discloses a hidden message left on the mirror, stating that her family has been deceived, and that there is additional clues and evidence in the very room she is staying in. Game requires 512 MB RAM, 95MB hard drive. The video clip is important to watch and listen to, as the music played during the clip, is throughout the game. The clip also shows several game highlights. I found the music pleasant and relaxing to listen to, but too repetitive. This is a hidden object/ light adventure game. This review is based on the completion of the game in both casual and in expert. The first time on casual took me just over 3 ¼ hours & the second time on Expert took me just 2 ½ hours, and I'm not considered a fast player either. As the game progresses Florence must write her father immediately for his advice about the deception as well as to help locate the additional information throughout the Bucklebury estate as the mystery of the lost ancestor and hidden pages of a will are found and secrets are revealed. Game takes place all in one afternoon and the horses, carriage and baggage remain in the front of the Manor throughout the game. The Options page allows the adjusting the music, sounds, checks for full screen, custom cursor, button to go to the credits and a return to game button are available to select. Option to play in casual or expert but can not be altered once you have started your game. Casual required a 50 second recharge for hints and 90 seconds for the expert level to recharge, the expert level did back off on the sparkles but all clues in dialog or at the top of the screen remained there even in the expert level. Hints are just that, hints to help you figure it out, not to give you the answer, unless you choosing to skip a puzzle. Across the top of the screen will tell you your current goal and even in the expert level it remains there so those of you who do not like to have your hand held or to be told what to do and how to do it will likely choose to pass on this game. Bucklebury Manor has beautiful Statues and art but the graphics of the people are flat one dimensional and a bit cartoon like. One scene they show 2 people moving across a room and up the stairs and they are shown with color streaking out behind the figures to show the implied motion which was very unimpressive. Thankfully that only happened once but in my opinion that should not have happened even that one time. Florence is without her ladies maid and the woman who is the cook and housekeeper helps Florence when she can but she also needs Florence’s help, which would have been unrealistic for the place and times this game is suppose to depict but this is after all a game trying to make HO scenes and mini games fit into a story line so I am cutting them a break. There are approx 10 traditional HO scenes and 30 or so types of mini games though the game. The 30 mini games involved some adventure combinations that had to be accomplished so this number will vary on a persons view point of which actions would be a mini game and which were just a combination of actions that needed to be done but did not fall into the mini game category in their own viewpoint. Items in HO scenes though clear and sharp a few were rather small but were still do-able. Tasks were reasonable such as locate paper, ink and create and sharpen a feather pen, plus melt wax and color it with dye to make wax for sealing of personal correspondence. Instructions were not always adequate to know what to do to progress in the game or even getting proper instructions for the mini games were lacking. Several times an item could not be picked up in one scene but could 3 scenes later. Two or three times an instruction sheet could also be found laying in the vicinity or tacked up near the scene. Be sure to check every drawer and each location thoroughly as there is not an over click penalty. In conclusion…I thought the game was too short, too easy, had too much hand holding throughout the game, but was worth the $2.99 sale price as a Daily Deal for the no stress, calming music, just chill out and relax.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Perfect for growing girls. This game is very girly. The victorian young lady and finding her true love. The graphics are 7 out of 10. The music is light and airy. It's a very simple easy to find game for girls around 7-10 years of age would be perfect for. It was fun to play the demo. It's a simple, sweet, pretty game.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sweet, simple game Nice game to play if you just was something easy and light-hearted. Puzzles and hidden object scenes were simple and game length was on the short side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Getting what you ask for... Ive been asking for something more simple and pretty. When you get what you ask for, sometimes its not always rewarding .Too much jabber. The drawings are simple. This is a nice beginners game.I'd say a young tween would love it.I'm sorry. But won't be adding this to my 'stable'. Battle Axe

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Old School The story was sweet and the music was beautiful, but the game was outdated. There are 2 levels of play. I started on the hard level and was completely lost, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was going. So I changed to Casual play and that was too easy!!! It showed EVERYTHING, from what to pick up, to the task to be completed! If you clicked the hint button, it told what room you needed to be in to complete the current task. I just needed something "in-between". Glad I bought it on Daily Deal special!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from for someone's first introduction to hidden object games the game is way too short, the hog scenes-puzzles ratio is just perfect and the effects are really fine for a game this old.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unappealing This is a romance which isn’t my style; the music is pleasantly lilting but likely to send me to sleep as I was so bored. There are no voiceovers but there is a lot of dialogue which is clickable. There is a normal mode with a 50 second hint recharge & an expert 90 seconds; however in both modes there is a banner at the top of the screen telling you what to do as soon as you have finished a task. In addition there is a diary with the story so far & clues. Far too much hand-holding & flat unappealing graphics plus too slow to load between scenes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I should've known better I hunt for games that are lighter and engaging...this was not. Only tip I can give you is if you're an avid gamer and like a challenge, don't waste your time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from no instructions??? I thought this would be a nice, pleasant game. The music is soft and good background, but the problem is that I found NO instructions for any puzzle. It was usually, "I have to have all the items." This was especially frustrating to know that I needed to fix the piano strings but could not find any way to manipulate them, not swapping, not drawing the end to where it needed to be, not identifying from the top of the pile. What's up with that? I've never skipped this many puzzles before. I won't play again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This one is a "no go" for me Played 50 minutes of the demo and exited. I was hopeful after reading the other reviews that my granddaughters would enjoy this game (being 9 and 10 yr olds) but just discovered Fiction Fixers Oz which will be much more FUN .. yes, the fun factor just isn't here, in my opinion. Your children might enjoy it so give it a try.
