Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still Stands As One Of The Creepiest Hidden Object Games Ever Made!!! Even though this game is 7 years old, I HIGHLY suggest it for lovers of truly scary hidden object games. It's like "Picture of Dorian Gray" meets "House of Wax" by way of "Silence of the Lambs". WARNING: This game is not for the faint of heart...there are well over a dozen corpses in this game and some of them you'll come on quite suddenly. It's about a narcissistic psychopath that's kidnapped your girlfriend and forces you to go through his house of horrors in order to save her. There are hints and skips available for the mini-games (which I REALLY enjoyed) and as you move from room to room. The only real downside is the map. You won't be able to jump around from point to point but will have to backtrack manually and this estate is REALLY huge (3 maps worth). I didn't mind because I think it adds to the tension. I've played this game multiple times over the years and I still never tire of it. If you occasionally get stuck Big Fish has a decent walk-through. If you like happy endings then don't EVER play the bonus chapter that comes with the CE. I prefer the SE ending myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Grown-Up Game....Finally! Other reviewers have laid out the plot, so I'll skip right to the important stuff. This is an entertainingly dark, brooding game with tons of unique puzzles, a fantastic, coherent storyline and a suitably creepy and menacing protagonist. Graphics are so visually appealing, voice overs deliciously sinister and music is nicely subdued. Story takes place in an extensive old mansion and grounds that seem to go on forever. There is a non-interactive map, meaning you can't jump from one room to another, but I was rather glad that you had to traverse the entire house to move about. The map does tell you when there is an item of interest but doesn't give anything away. Puzzles are my main interest in games of this sort and there are a lot of them here. They range from one or two ridiculously simplistic to tearing my hair out hard (which I live for) and playing in advanced mode gave me no SKIP button. The puzzles are unique and extremely entertaining. I highly recommend this game for all of you out there who still like to think for yourselves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this or BUST! UGH! This game is FANTASTIC. Creepy, engaging, beautifully made, and accompanied by a compelling story with three dimensional characters brought to life by stellar voice acting. I regret NOT purchasing the CE because I wanted more. An excellent HOA for adults.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Creepingly fantastic! A Thriller Chiller of murder mystery! Completed SE . I recommend this game for those looking for a good, creepy murder mystery. But WARNING: This game is not suitable for younger audiences or those sensitive this kind of genre do to the graphic and real like nature in some of the scenes. This game is fantastic. I was enthralled all the way through. The story captured my attention and held me to the end. The graphics and sound was excellent. All the puzzles fit perfect with the games theme. The characters were captivating. I thought Vincent Price took the Oscar in the original Portrait of Dorian Gray but I can say this Oscar took the "Oscar" for being just plain pysco and creepy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best game so far I was a bit sceptical at first and tried to save money. But after completing the game i had to buy collector's addition (not only for the bonus chapter, but i also enjoyed the wallpapers and the soundtracks). Though the game, probably, meant to be scarry i found it very cozy, relaxing and entertaining.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great game!! One of the best games I have played for a long time, Graphics Storyline and Music Excellent. Lots of puzzles ranging from easy to perplexing. Not too many HOS. - I really enjoyed this game, it is quite long, if I had to say anything against it then It would be that there is a lot of going back and forth, but there is a map, so it is not too bad. I would definitely recommend this game - lots of fun. wish I had bought the collectors edition now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Nice graphics, well done HOS, interesting puzzles, good length and chance to use your memory skills. The only complaint are the sparkles for HOS even in advanced mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from **WOW** Wonderfully Wicked!! The voice over is the best I have ever heard in a pc game! Think Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector. I expected him to call out “Clarice” any minute! You simply must play this game with the sound on! Very lengthy game play 6 hours (if you don’t skip puzzles). CE bonus lasted approx. 1 hour, total game play approx. 7 hours…..definitely get your monies worth here. This is definitely more of an adventure game with very few HO scenes. There is no click penalty (bonus if you don’t like HO). They are not junk pile, clear with a few IHO. The music is toned down, definitely background. Sound effects are good, sounds like your character has asthma at times. There is no map. That is the only thing that I can say is disappointing about this game. There are so many rooms and other areas to search/investigate that it would have been very beneficial to the player. There were many times that I literally got lost trying to get from one area to another by taking a wrong turn. Hence, there is considerable to and fro. Subject matter may be disconcerting to some. Let’s just say there are some bodies, though you never see the actual act of violence and there is no blood or bruising. It will definitely keep you on the edge of your sit. I have heard of, but never experienced a game that was reviewed as scary…….this may just be that one. You will on occasion jump. Devilishly entertaining!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great storyline Iinitialy played this game last year, but decided to play it again and compare to Brink of Consiousness: Lonely Hearts. Although I enjoyed the plot and character interactions better in Lonely Hearts, this was a fantastic game and outshone most of the other games on BF. Big reason? That there is an actual storyline (almost a Saw-like horror movie) that keeps you interested and isn't like most of the other same old supernatural things out there. I mean, isn't it scarier when it's something that is pure human evil and could really happen? Don't get me wrong, I like supernatural. But puppets that come to life or otherworldy ghosts and ghouls just don't have the same scare factor. Graphics are dark, and so is the theme. Creepy, truly is a better word. But that is great for me! We continually hear dialogue of the inner workings of a sociopath as he follows us on our quest, being led by the nose through a series of tests to try to save our beloved, Anne. Fits into my Top 10 games of all times!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHEW! FINALLY FINISHED GAME What a very challenging and very lengthy adventure game. You play Sam, a journalist, seeking his girlfriend who has been squirrelled away by a madman who gives his subjects immortality. You hear a lot from the madman; his voice is rather pleasant. HOS are fairly easy, as are the puzzles. Graphics and scenery are clear, detailed and many are beautiful. Very well thought-out plot and game play. When you think you are at the end, you find that you are not. So you play on until you again think you are at the end, only to find you are not. Eventually, you do reach the end – sort of. Very interesting concept of how this is done. Most challenging: There are many, many locations. However, even though there is a map which is useful in showing your location and where actions are possible, it is not interactive. But don’t get too comfortable just because you have a map. The map is on 3 planes which only shows locations in perspective, depending on their location in the mansion. You can see the locations on one plane, but alas, you have to figure out how to get there. Example: Even though one level shows all the locations outside of the mansion, you cannot simply access all of them even though they are shown next to each other. Instead, you must access them from 2 different exits from the mansion. And with so many rooms, it’s up to you to remember how to access the exits. Easy to become frustrated trying to find a location – the walkthrough may tell you to go to the old car, but not how to get there. You just have to remember what locations lead to which locations – it’s easy to get lost even with the W/T. One big annoyance – in many of the scenes, there is very distracting coughing. Doesn’t seem to tie into the story.
