Secrets of the Dark: Eclipse Mountain Collector's Edition is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why isn't this listed on the Top 100 or Best Rated games lists? This has 4.5 stars with 125 reviews. Obviously lots of people are playing it, and lots of people are rating it highly. The graphics and audio are gorgeous, it has some unique gameplay, and it's not overly easy. Yet this game is nowhere to be found int eh Top 100 list or the Best Rated games list (yet games reviewed by 8 "people" show up on the list). I don't always rate games, but when I do, it's to make a point. I can only speculate that the lack of "advertising" might be due to the producer of the game, but don't let that prevent you from playing this great, lovely, enjoyable game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Are You Ready for a Challenge? Gaming excellence! ORNEON Developers pulled out all the stoppers and spared nothing either in terms of beautifully detailed, hand-drawn artwork, computer graphics, challenging puzzles, the highest quality hidden object scenes, immersive music with a very helpful and detailed walkthrough. After already saving your friend Peter in Mexico, (Temple of Night), he has convinced you to visit another far-away and more exotic land--Thailand-- where adventures continue! Thanks to the CE Walkthrough, I was better able to get adjusted and understand that illuminating a scene takes gamers to play another scene. Gamers switch back and forth throughout gameplay and this led to the increased challenge and better enjoyment. The story was compelling and the almost soothing music allows gamers to focus and stay immersed in the game. It's no wonder Secrets of the Dark is one of the most popular of computer gaming series and one of my absolute favorites! On to Mystery of the Ancestral Estate and the newest game Secrets of the Dark-The Flower of Shadow! Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LIGHTING CAN LIGHT THE WAY SUMMARY: Main game took 5 hours to complete on casual mode. Changing the illumination in various rooms and having Athit and his protégés change special items into useful objects adds to the drama. Spectacular artistry and light use with the animation special effects. Puzzles, HOS and reverse HOS (putting objects where they belong) are fun; some can be moderately challenging. There were several puzzles that were quite challenging and the last puzzle required a lot of patience, quick moves and planning, but was the most fun of all. Very good production values. Provides for a somewhat challenging afternoon of play. Some tips and details: • Music is pleasant and appropriate to locations. • Puzzle instructions start with “Solve the puzzle” – click the Instructions tab for actual instructions. • Very good voice overs. • HOS are somewhat stylized; so finding objects is not a slam dunk. After completing the list, find a useful object. • Changing illumination provides an entirely different perspective in another era of rooms. Need to change lighting several times to be able to complete all puzzles in the rooms. • Remember where the Athit and his protégés are located because you will be visiting • No need for a map – but remember where the museum, souvenir shop and hotel are as you will be visiting them often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get a new friend. Once again, your "friend" leads you into another demonic adventure. This time in Thailand. The setting is lovely and the graphics are good. Animation is midling. What makes the game are the scene morphing when the lighting changes. This is a cool idea and well done - for the most part. There are also objects that need to be morphed into something else by special statues. The music is OK. Translation was pretty good. The story line is similar to the first game but a lot of the games have the same theme. The objects in the HO scenes are really well hidden but totally findable. Playing time seemed longer to me than the first game. The collectors edition has another bit of rescuing villagers which was also fun. Like the first game, the research wasn't done on the location, fauna and gods. The first glaring misstep was putting an African elephant in the middle of the Thai jungle. There were several Hindu gods parading around the scenery also. Southeast Asia has plenty of their own so importing gods doesn't seem necessary, just lazy. But all in all it was a good game and fun to play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bonus Chapter EVER! I had planned to give this 4 stars. Its an excellent game with great graphics and an engaging and fun plot. I played on the hardest level which I always do when I have a walkthrough and had no hints, skips or help of any kind except it did have black bar tips. I love Orneon because they have hidden object scenes where you put the items back on the shelf which gives it something extra to look forward to. My only negative and the reason I wanted to give it 4 stars was because it isn't widescreen and this game has such pretty graphics and its a jungle setting, lots of elephants and sound effects to match and it would have been a WOW moment more so than it already was. However, then I got to the bonus chapter and OMG! It was over 2 hours long, had some new places but you went through the beginning of the game like you did before only to do more in depth things. However, you did have to repeat some of the same mini games from the first time around which didn't thrill me as I hated the one with the balls among others but all in all kept my interest. I really, really enjoyed this game and Orneon keep on impressing me with what they can do. They are starting to become one of my favorite developers AND I love the pulling of the shade to have a new room. The first one in this series didn't work on my computer but I am so very glad this one did. Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Few HO screens, lots of fun puzzles and screens This game is not overloaded with HO screens. There are lots of fun puzzles and interesting locations. This game has screens where you press a switch to change the screen back and forth like different times or dimensions. I love that. This game is decently long and very interesting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sequel to Temple of Night Another adventure with Peter, who seems to get himself into an awfully lot of trouble! Great storyline (this time is Thailand), excellent graphics. Good VOS. Very nice and clear HOS, most interactive. Some are put backs. Full screen, with lots and lots of puzzles (mostly hard, I thought). Nice length on bonus chapter-over 2 hours. Casual play time for me was 7.25 hours, including bonus. Game also has the same light changing scenerio which is pretty cool. Well worth the money, a really enjoyable game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Truly Outstanding Game This game comes to us from Orneon, the developers of the Echoes of the Past games and Secrets of the Dark: Temple of Night. Having enjoyed those games already, I was expecting good things from this game and was not disappointed. The graphics are lush and gorgeous, and the atmosphere is excellent. Hidden object scenes are well done; along with straight hidden object scenes, you also get to play "figure out where to place the item in the scene," as well. Puzzles were various and most were challenging without being obtuse or overly frustrating. The game is also a very good length - I didn't use a lot of hints, and the main game took me a good number of hours (roughly six). The bonus gameplay was equally good and of a very generous length. The storyline was nothing unique but I felt that the entire game was expertly done. There was a lot of backtracking, but the game was so beautiful and interesting to look at that it didn't really bother me. I highly recommend this game. I've played a lot of Collector's Editions and this is one of the best that I have played. This is a very high-quality game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Secrets of the Dark: Eclipse Mountain This is an awesome game, my favourite to date. Liked pretty much everything about it. LIKED: - Game length: It was just long enough to feel like you've got your money's worth, but not too long that you got bored - Special objects: The special objects that you had to collect and change into something else was great. Really original. - Changing rooms: Another fab original aspect was the changing of rooms when in the light or in the dark. Really cool! - Puzzles/H0 scenes: There were more puzzles than H0 scenes which I like because too many H0 scenes just bores me. Plus I like the added 'placing of objects in the scene' sometimes, rather than all H0 scenes. NOT LIKED: - Lag: There was only one thing that annoyed me and that was the slight lag in the mouse point; and by that I mean that when I moved the mouse point, sometimes it took a while to catch up and was very slow. But that's the only bad thing I found. Would totally recommend this game.
