Eternal Journey: New Atlantis Collector's Edition is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 264.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bring the fun back to Hidden Object Games I'm been a dedicated and BFG gamer for over a decade (with some of my fav games being HOGs), but this is my first BFG review ever (I feel so elated with the game), so please read my review in that context. I bought the CE version, but I still haven't played the bonus content. Like many of you, it's been really hard to watch the decline of BFG hidden object games - especially during recent lockdowns. But if we're honest, they've been in decline for the past 3-4 years. I had such a hard time articulating WHY they seemed worse, but after playing Eternal Journey: New Atlantis Collector's Edition, I can start to understand what's been missing. First, there's a compelling story with characters you can empathise with. The lead is a strong female, but not overly intrusive that you don't learn about the other characters; she's curious as you might be if you were put in the same situation (there could have been a bit more diversity in the ethnicity of the characters, but you can't have everything...). The story is developed in ways throughout the gameplay that makes sense (and also gains you an achievement). The story is futuristic and science/science fiction based, so a far cry from all of the Victorian mystery storylines or fairy stories that are becoming tired and boring (at least to me!). The story has an arc without relying on stupid or ridiculous plot twists for the heroine to reach the end of her journey (ok, a bit of sci-fi magic, but I'll allow that). I never felt 'impatient'. And there's a cat... Second, the game play fits the storyline - you're exploring a Mars excavation site - so, while there is a bit of back-and-forth in the different scenes, it doesn't feel like you have to keep returning again and again and again to advance the game. The added map in what I think is an updated CE version is VERY helpful in getting around, but every once in a whlie I did it the long way around because it was cool to make train and elevator work. ;) The mini games and actual HOGs are enjoyable. When 'collections' first appeared in HOGs, I was mad for them - but now I'm rather bored with morphing objects and items to collect. There is a collection in this one, but it's part of the story. Third, the music/audio and especially the artwork are great. While the music is a bit repetitive, it's fairly unobtrusive, so it's calming - just what I want in a game. You have to hunt around a bit for clues - even in easy mode - so it's nice to have chilled music in the background. The voices are normal, none of this screeching or childlike female voices, nor strange male voices that don't fit the visuals or characters. The visuals are stunning. I think I read one recent review on here that said they seemed 'grainy'. I really like the visuals. They aren't garish as with some recent games, and they are painterly, as in you could see how computer graphic artists have taken time to create them. I loved it. They even have places where you can click to look out windows from the excavation site just to look outside on the landscape. It really is a visually beautiful game. The people are drawn a bit simply, but I'll take that any day over some of the artwork we've seen in some recent games. Newer is not always better. I have to say I was a bit sceptical of a game this old, but I wasn't interested in any of the recent HOGs launched in BFG, most of which have received scathing reviews. So I waded through the (literally) hundreds of 'Strategy Guides' listed among the top-rated games on the BFG site to finally arrive at the first few proper HOGs that have received the highest reviews - Eternal Journey came up within the first 10 of these (somewhere after 250th). I'm so glad I found it. If you haven't already played the game, I highly recommend that you do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where's the next episode? This is a fantastic game! Graphics top notch. Story line kept me engaged. Games are challenging. The surprise ending made me want to play the next in the series right away. I'll keep looking and hope the developers will publish soon!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An unexpected classic dug out from the BF archives - Check it out! So glad I was able to download this. First time I booted up it only gave me ¼ screen but after that I got a full screen every time. It took me around 8-9 hours to play. This is a TOTALLY AWESOME game. It is classic SF/HOPA with great emphasis on the adventure, with the HOS bringing a nice break in the action and the puzzles were doable and didn't make you feel like an idiot. A beautiful story, and _long_. I can’t believe this was made over 10 years ago! Others have given a synopsis of the story, but I must say this has a classic game feel to it. It is like the classic game of Myst, where you are on your own to figure out the world you find yourself in. I skipped the music (which is why I couldn't give 5 stars in that category - not their fault) but played space type music while I played the game, and it was perfect. If you love good SF, good story lines and classic HOS you need to get this game. I didn't realize this had a CE version and I will be purchasing it for when I replay the game, which I surely will! Highly, highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally an original idea! As of today, after finishing this game and the bonus game, this one is my absolute favorite. I love how it starts out in our time, then travels to Mars in the future. I love how everything all ties together. This was a great adventure with puzzles, HOGs, and great, sharp graphics. I hope this developer puts out many sequels or similar original idea games. This was so much fun that I want to play it again soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A space game well worth playing !!! Lots of fun and a very unique way of playing !!! Artistry is well done and the music is not monotonous as some are !!! I love reading the story line with all the games that I play and this one's story is very interesting and I wanted to know what happened next and why...and the story gave me those answers ...so don't forget to read !!! Some minor challenging area's but definitely doable with a little bit of strategy and brain power !!! All in all....this was a delight to play...try the demo and you'll see what I mean !!! Have fun all !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my favourite game I bought this when it first came out. I've just finished replaying it for the 4th time and realised I never wrote a review. It's the most fun I've had playing a game, and when there are no interesting games out it's a great one to go back to. I enjoyed the storyline. The graphics and sounds are atmospheric, the cut-scenes are not over-done like in some games. The HO scenes are fun and I still find them different enough to enjoy playing them. It's a long game with lots of to and fro but that's what the jump map is for :-) It's obvious the devs put a lot of though and effort into this one, I wish there were more like this around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Game Bought this a few years ago. It felt like such a departure from the normal fantasy/magic genre, but in a good way. Great story and addictive gameplay. Brilliant!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Sci-fi adventure. A game different among the rest! Completed CE: This game is worth the money. The story was excellent. You start out in present time to end up 150 years in the future after an accident that leaves you in Chyrostatsis. You are sent to Mars and there discover what happened to the planet and how life started on Earth. And you discover something you never expected to find. Something you thought was gone forever. The graphics beautiful, the music great and the puzzles are easy to not so easy in regular mode. I do recommend to buy the CE because the game isn't complete without the bonus chapter. And collecting the memory cards adds more details to the story. I recommend this game to those who are looking for something different. Likes sci-fi and doesn't want witches, doom, gloom, or evil. Another great game that is sci-fi is Space Legends.
