Mystery Case Files®: Shadow Lake is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 232.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from dont trust the bad comments An excellent game, creepy and challenging, the actors are not the best but the game experience is great anyway. A must buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I still come back to replay this one The mix of humor, horror, and intrigue makes this a compelling enough story that I still come back to replay it, years later. The minigame requiring you to yet again "match a drawing to the in-game scene" does get a bit drab and repetitive, I'll admit. But the genuinely scary moments and uniquely dark plot reveals just reeled me right back in with true immersion. I miss these kinds of well-acted, cinematic games. Maybe it's nostalgia speaking, but I haven't found something quite as satisfyingly creepy since the days of these classic, live actor MCF games.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Is A Winner I've had this game since it came out and I absolutely love it....there's mystery, challenging hidden object games, and the ending is superb! This was really the last good game from Mystery Case Files.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I played Like others, I was first turned off by negative reviews, but I decided to go ahead and play this MCF game since I had played all the others in the series. I liked that it wasn't along the same story line as the other MCF games. This game was fun BECAUSE it was different. It was also neat to see a famous actress (Leah Thompson) play a main character. There was a good mixture of hidden object games and other brain teasers to keep you interested. Overall, it was refreshing to play a game that had a bit of humor and whimsy along with a good story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Critics are being too harsh, it's a great game! I don't see why a lot of people think this is just so awful! Now in my opinion, it's not as good as RTR, Dire Grove, or 13th Skull, but it's not a bad game! It has great graphics and sound quality, and the fact that they use REAL actors compared to animation (despite some of their lines being a little cheesy) is a nice touch! It's also a very nice thriller! (SPOILER START!) From a news woman coming on telling you about the weather almost half scaring the heck out of you when all of a sudden she turns into this monster on the TV, to strange "things" coming out of nowhere, this game will definitely keep you on your toes! (SPOILER END!) This game takes place in a run-down town in Maine and it shows in the art style. Lots of dark green and gray all around kind of make it look like a depressing game which is what the game is trying to achieve is a nice touch. There is full HD support on this game and you can always disable it in the Options Menu if your computer can't handle it or the game runs too slow on it. Overall, it's a great game! I personally liked Dire Grove & 13th Skull better, but this game isn't a bad game! It's a nice continuation in the MCF Series!! I definitely think you should try this out if you like Thrillers & Hidden Object Games!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Atmosphere I was so surprised to see the less than stellar 3-star rating for this game. MCF have been some of my all time favourite games. I think I avoided trying it because of that, but I recently played the demo and I'm buying it. I do loath those out of control inventory bars at the bottom of the screen that auto-hide so you are in a constant battle with calling it up when you are just trying to leave the room. But there's a strange kind of play to this game that I like, different and innovative and not easily boring. The video cut-aways and acting are really good for a pc game. Almost over the top. Has all the cheese of a Saturday afternoon mystery game with live acting. the graphics drew me in, like the old white wooden house with the fresh tree fallen through the roof, and the strange eerie look of the upstairs with a gaping hole to the sky and this tree laying there, while the sedate family pictures hanging undisturbed on the remaining walls. I played the demo out which ended at a puzzle that stumped me in a good way, and so I'm buying now that they have a good sale on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique interesting game! What could anyone possibly find wrong with this game? It's great! Ok so Martys Moms acting was way over the top. But ITS A GAME not a movie. Plus she's playing the part of one of those hokey psychics and if anyone has ever seen them, that's pretty much how they act. So she was actually pretty dead on with her portrayal. lol Anyway the game itself is awesome! Just because you have to use the map to get to some locations is no reason to dislike it. Its a different game, I don't want all my games the same. They probably made it that way in response to all the complaints about backtracking. I loved the puzzles in the visions. And matching the drawings was fun. I especially love that it takes up the whole screen, the graphics are perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about this game. I wish everyone would vote some of the good reviews to the front page because all those bad reviews on the front page are keeping people from a great game. Thats why I didn't even TRY this game for so long. Now I regret it. I'm never going to judge a game based on the reviews again if this is the kind of game they say is bad. This is now my 3rd fav game. My 1st fav is Nightmare Adventures: The Turning Thorn & my 2nd fav is MCF: Escape From Ravenhurst, if that tells you anything. I really hope people give this game a chance, It truly is an amazingly good game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST MCF YET Very good production values. The MCFs keep getting better and this is the best one yet. They’ve come a long way since Huntsville. You can play casual or expert modes, in high definition and with subtitles. You have separate volume controls for sound effects and the environment. Music is relaxing. You have a map and a case book which lists your tasks and your notes on the case. For once, we have cutscenes with good live actors who act and sound natural – it’s about time! Delve into a good well thought-out and interesting plot. Adding the ghost hunters is good -- more mystery is added as to why they took off so fast, while leaving quite a bit of their equipment behind. Very good graphics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyed playing it Before buying the game I read all the bad reviews here and I was prepared for the worst. But the game was not that bad at all - I enjoyed playing it a lot, same as all the other parts. Perhaps it did not offer any revolutionary gameplay like it did in previous games and the storyline was not connected to Ravenhearst (well, that one is apparently over since all the victims were destroyed). The game is well done - nice graphics, interesting quests. So I really do not understand why people hated it so much.
