Off the Record: The Italian Affair is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Italy set Game The first hour of the game is awesome and that's why I purchased the full game. But after the gameplay moves out of Venice, it becomes quite boring. The Venice scenes and games are simply stunning. There is a thin plot about a criminal with a few twists, but needed more action and adventure. I recommend playing the demo, but not worth the purchase for rest of game.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from To Catch a Thief in Venice This is an above average HOG detective/mystery in contemporary times. Wish there were more of these types than the ones about spooks and ghosts. The graphics are above average. It feels like a movie where you are the detective. Taking place in Venice, I wish more of the HOS and tasks had more eye candy related to Italy. There were some nice interiors, but too few in my opinion. One gimmick to the game is the use of a camera to find a clue for your next task. If you are playing Hard mode, when you come across an area and the camera icon pops up, you have to click on the camera at bottom right corner to the mini puzzle, click on appropriate filter, and adjust the "lens" to find the clue. I forgot about that and couldn't figure out why nothing was happening when I clicked on the camera icon (telling you to use the camera). Duh. It's a fun caper with a surprising twist. At the end of game, you will understand the double entendre meant by the title "The Italian Affair." Ciao!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So-so.. The second game in the Off the Record series by Eipix --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had their first game: Linden Shade and was not impressed so I tried the demo of their second game in this series. This game has nothing to do with their first game so you can buy it without having to buy the first game. As usual Eipix game is combining animations and live actors, which I think they should really consider not doing anymore because it seems forced and unnatural. VO is kind of off. Don't fit the characters at all. There are 3 levels of difficulties. The game sets in Venice, although I like games set in Europe, there's not much plot can happen in Venice except art thief. This plot has been done before in other games. Hope they can be more original in creating storyline. The HO games are usually finding objects from silhouettes. The hint is useful if we choose custom difficulty, but the map, as pretty as it is, doesn't really serve any good purpose. Plus it is so well hidden behind the hint button if we dont really look we won't find it, not that it is useful anyway :( However I still think this is better than their first game, the Venice setting is gorgeous and full of details. Overall just a so-so game, it was not awesome but still give a good game nonetheless from dark, creepy game. Good for enjoying summer holiday, I think.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for Me Just not my cup of tea. the storyline is pretty silly and the challenge is not much better, though the graphics are good. I played for about 10 minutes and couldn't stand going any further, even for free. Take advantage of the free trial before buying this one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not worth 4 stars I didn't know the people in Italy spoke perfect English without an accent. This ruined the game for me. It was just OK.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was ok The graphics were good. Ok story. Seemed slow or boring. Needed something more. Not impressed with the map. The HOS were very easy. Try the demo.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from "Not what it says on the tin" I tried the demo of this game, and ran into difficulty in the first hidden object scene. So eventually I resorted to the "so called strategy guide" which told me and I quote "complete the hidden object scene"!! One of the main reasons I go for collectors editions is the comfort of knowing that when all else fails I can resort to the SG.It is totally misleading to call this a CE, I did revert to Big Fish, who told me to "check out the forums" Why on earth should I have to do that, when I had a strategy Guide? The game looked lovely and I would have bought it in a flash but for this .

Rated 2 out of 5 by from caricature of Venice Did the demo and gave up - couldn't stand this caricature of Venice! If you have been there yourself or want to find out what Venice is like, don't buy this game. I assume the creators have never visited Europe - any medieval town would have taught them better ... If you tried racing around with a Vespa that way in Venice - if it was allowed - with its narrow alleys and bridges, you would end up in a canal in no time ... And then the "Italians": The gondoliere was a joke and no Italian receptionist would get a job behaving or being dressed like that! A shame - I like the "Off the Record" series a lot usually and have bought all the other games, but I do expect some basic research.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish I had played the demo Sorry I bought this without playing much of the demo. I found it to be boring, with no real direction or point. Make sure you play the whole demo before buying! You might like it; I didn't.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Italian Disappointment After reading the reviews and discarding the 5 star reviews offered by the perpetual 5 star reviewers, I decided to give this game a try. Hey, it's also the buy of the week, why not? Made it 40 minutes into the demo and then bye bye. First off, if ever a game needed user adjustable gamma, this is it. Bright hazy over blown colors one minute then over saturated garish colors in windows the next. We get the usual "fix the wires, find the key" stuff and the voice acting, as one reviewer pointed out, is terrible. An unconvincing Italian word followed by young would be actors reading in perfect English and with no real emotion or urgency. Mamma Mia! Nice concept...terrible execution. Not for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big Yawn Boring and predictable, and I never did figure out how or what the camera was for or how to use it.
