Christmas Stories: A Christmas Carol Collector's Edition is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 120.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my winner for favorite Christmas game to date Based on completed game (and bonus play) Everything about this game works. It stands out for all its special details right on down to the menu screen. Be sure to click on the snow globe! I normally play these games on Custom, especially because I like a fast hint. Since this game is older, it doesn't have that option. I noticed this game has too many glimmer sparkles so the second casual selection (it's called "Frightful Flakes") gets rid of those but the hint is still relatively fast. The SE portion took me 4hrs 30min The CE bonus play took me 1hr 35min Total gameplay: 6hrs 5min Chapter 2 has an adorable fawn colored bulldog wearing a Santa costume that looked exactly like an adored pet I lost in the Christmas of 2008. So seeing that dog was like getting a hug from her. I knew I was going to love this game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOS- They are all the list type with some 2 steppers. I loved every scene. All of the items are well hidden and scenes are organized and fully loaded. They were perfectly done I felt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Morphing penguins (CE only): This game has some of the best ones I've ever searched for and I took a fair amount of time looking for them. They sloooowwww morph and into an item that would also fit the scene. So I didn't miss them I'd check each scene 1st thing. If you like morph hunting, this game is worth the CE version for that alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More time was spent on cut scenes and 3D in game animation, rather than the newer games that focus on character mouth movements. I liked it way better this way. The graphics are also way better in this game than the newer versions of CS. I loved how they used real items rather than all hand drawn. I felt it clarified the objects and made the entire HOS better because of them. The game scene backgrounds look like actual photos of snow covered trees, instead of the concept art looking backgrounds we see a lot of in newer games. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is a MG in chapter 4 pg 25 of wtg where you cycle puzzle pieces to determine the outcome of Scrooges life was really fun. And details such as the "kindness lantern" takes place over many scenes that you come back to apply "kindness" to later. They do this a couple of times in this game where you collect several items through many scenes then go back and apply them. They did it again with 3D animated little trolls you needed to banish. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Screensavers (CE version only): You get these UP FRONT and can apply them immediately after purchase instead of collecting the puzzle pieces. I love when the game gives you what you pay for without having to replay to get the CE bonus content. When I'm paying double for the CE version I want the bonus items up front. One Screensaver is of a balcony at night, it's snowing with colorful fireworks going off in the distance. The other is of the ghost of Christmas past in Scrooges living room as the misty ghost of Christmas present bobs up and down. I was surprised they didn't use the last scene of all the cats from bonus play instead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bonus play: The story is all about cats. You play as Sherlock Cat who is investigating the case of the missing Santa Cat. This chapter was really fun. I liked this chapter but I have to admit, I've always found the cats in CS a bit creepy :) Bonus play takes place over 12 scenes. Only 3 of these are new scenes and the rest we've played in the main game. There is a gimmicky magnifying glass to locate paw prints that isn't overused and I liked it. I counted 4 more HOS in the bonus play and 3 more MG. There are no more morphing penguins in bonus play. The bonus chapter takes up a whopping 19 pages of the strategy guide. It is a long chapter that is worth the money I think. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The music was great but I noticed it would just cut off if you'd shut down a zoom zone or move to another area. Scene after scene in this game is just so beautiful with natural tones that aren't that fake looking, vivid "snow blue". My favorite scene in the game is in chapter 6 called "near cemetery". It is snowing with a little bridge over a still reflective brook and a cozy red house off in the distance. Thank you Elephant,,,, You created a classic with this game and you really out did yourselves with this one. Thank you for all the attention to detail, the beautiful 3D animation, and for many hours of perfect Christmas fun. Replay value for this game is super high and I'll install it every Christmas just for the screensavers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Christmas Game!!!!! I played this game early last year and played it again now over the xmas period and I love it. Good stuffs: Beautiful graphics and music Beautiful xmas theme Can choose your modes Morphing objects not that easy to spot which is a good thing Puzzles and HOS range from easy to difficult and are lots of fun. You can assist Scrooge to make changes to his past, present and future unlike the original story where he is just an observer. Doing good deeds to help others Bonus game takes place in the secret cat world where scrooge is a cat. It is not a repeat of the main game, you are helping to find santa and save xmas. Bad stuff: Didn't find anything bad, just hope the developers keep the good xmas games coming. I'd recommend playing this game mid-year as well, it will definitely cheer one up while you wait for the xmas season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Christmas Game I would like to give this 41/2 stars really. It is very high quality, and lovely and Christmassy, but it didn't grab me. I think the bonus game grabbed me a little more than the main game. I found the overabundance of puzzles, though very original and entertaining, a little tedious. and wasn't crazy about Scrooge's two spirits helping. But as I said , it was a good game and I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I liked it SO much that I bought it TWICE I bought the standard version first but liked the sound track so much I went ahead and bought the Collectors Edition just for the bonus material. Excellent graphics and storyline. Again, the soundtrack was exceptional. I just loved it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magic! I thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas game! The scenery, the story, all the cute animals and all the beautiful scenery were fantastic! The bonus game with all the cats was so cute. What's even better is it is a nice long game which is very good. This game is a winner. I did have a lot of problem getting the Tiny Tim amulet to work, but I kept working, and it finally just fell into place. I highly recommend this game. Thank you game makers for a well done job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful classic Christmas story... I love Christmas Carol movie with Jim Carey and this game is incredible. Story is change little bit but still we have past, present and future segment. HOP are one of the best i ever seen, very detailed and beautifully animated. Of each scene smells christmas atmosphere. Soundtrack is also great and fits in game. Gameplay is fun a not unduly hard. Overall is this one of the best Elephant games, finally something what deserve five stars! Visually stunning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Christmas Stunner - This is worth buying :-) Just finished the main game and will be playing the bonus to extend the joy. Review based on main game for both SE and CE players: The CE is a a long game - started just before Christmas and finished it now over several weeks. The graphics are stunning - bright, cheerful, and cute (especially the Warrior Cats). Once again, the creative artists at Elephant Games deserve congratulations. The 3D effects were brilliant. Music is a key element of games for me. In this game it was beautiful and sweet, although for some reason it stopped after a while and did not resume (I did not manually turn this off) - going back and forth helped the music 'switch on' again. I would have liked the music to be more continuous. I especially liked the carolers when they didn't have all of their sheet music - making up the words to 'Silent Night' was funny, but they were in perfect form once they had their full music (really put me in the mood for my own singing!). I'll have to revisit the credits to find out who the singers were and other music acknowledgements. Game complexity - this game is not hard - I did not use the Strategy Guide at all, but did have to use the hints a fair bit as it was sometimes difficult to know where to go next. I found that this game tested my memory and improved my brain/thinking skills overall - the minigames, puzzles, and remembering which scenes had what clues. Another important element of a game is: does it make you think rather than go through endless mindless HO scenes - which it did. There was a good balance of intelligent HO scenes and other puzzles. Storyline - in a nutshell: sweet and feel-good. I especially loved the good deeds element, saving Tim's life, rescuing the girl in the snow, providing food, and turning Scrooge's life around for the better - it encouraged more feelings of compassion and peace, which is what our world really needs now in this new year. So, if you are wondering whether this is just a colourful cute game for children and too sugary for you - well, yes, it can be those things, but it is a decent game and a sweet collectable which is worth having. It is not too kiddy, but done in a sophisticated, artistic, movie-like manner appealing to various audiences. It has action, romance, history, art, and twists to hold your interest. It will leave you feeling good about what life can be, and that it is never too late for good to win over evil. More games like this please Elephant Games!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Heartwarming Twist on a Beloved Classic This game is so full of charm – it had me “awwwing” (as in “so sweet and cute”)- and crying (happy tears) throughout, like you do when you watch a really good heartwarming movie full of goodwill and cheer. The story was incredible- I love that we went back to give Scrooge a second chance to have a better life, changing things for him and others. The puzzles and games were intuitive, challenging, and fun! In every HOP scene, there was some kind of cute animation; all of them a regular list find as well as 2 or 3 interactive – and I loved how you could make things jingle, cats meow, lights switch on, items fall down, etc, that weren’t part of completing the puzzle- not just in the HOPs either. These little extras made the game so much more immersive. The penguins morphed, and I found 29 of 34 – always looking to find it before doing anything else in a new room or area, which leads me to think that there must have been 2 in some scenes/rooms, since there were no morphs in the bonus game, (which also was adorable, especially if you’re a cat lover- or even a mouse lover. There were the usual cartoon cats, but also normal looking kittens – cats everywhere you looked- the storyline a mystery, where you play detective finding paw prints with the help of the magnifier Sherlock Cat gives you. Such fun! You revisited areas that had changed a bit from the main game, and also entered new ones.) Every scene throughout this game was fun and an “awww” moment. Though there were some poignant and somewhat sad moments too. I smiled so much, chuckled, and yes, even cried when certain (wonderful) things happened. A beautifully crafted story and game for the whole family. My only cons: The Spirit of Christmas Future was well represented in graphics, though his voice seemed a bit too good-natured (didn’t really like some of the voiceovers of a couple of others) so it took a bit away from making it feel more real in those parts. My only other negative was something already mentioned- the beautiful music often cut out, sometimes right in the middle of the song, (why I gave that part only three stars). I noticed that entering a HOP always brought it back, and in the rest of game too- or completing a specific action successfully would- but really, that small bug is the least when compared to the rest of this game. Oh, and I loved the Carolers who sang 3 verses of Silent Night! That was a neat little extra- and this charming game has many little extras sprinkled all through it! As the saying goes “it’s all in the details.” Would I recommend this game? Only if you like an old-fashioned, festive Christmas story filled with cheer and goodwill, the holiday spirit, doing good deeds for others (and they had one of my faves- the Little Match Girl!) – and enjoy fun and intriguing games, with oh so cute as well as beautiful scenery, story, and plenty of interaction and enjoyable things to do and see…. Otherwise, don’t bother. ;-)
