European Mystery: Scent of Desire Collector’s Edition is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MAGNIFIQUE! So pleased with being able to go back and play some games I purchased and never had the time to play! Blam Games presented this 2013 beauty with a backdrop in France recovering from the cholera plague during the reign of King Louis XIV. Impressed with Developers' time era appropriate attire and objects. Well done! Music is soothing and non-obtrusive. Gorgeous scenery with outstanding hand-drawn artwork and computer graphics. Story line is interesting as gamers seek to learn the answers to an evolving murder/kidnapping mystery. Interesting collecting various fragrances to mix elixirs that blended well within the plot. Very creative! Puzzles are original as well with a good mixture from easy to challenging. Game moves quickly as items are used almost immediately. The good old gaming days and just a few years ago. Ha! Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Graphics AND a Refreshing Storyline!! Finally, a game that has great graphics and a good storyline. It's usually one or the other but you get both with this game. Let's start with the storyline. It was different from any other game I have played which made it very interesting. Thankfully, there weren't any ghosts floating about or spells to cast. There are enough games with those things in them IMHO. The graphics are just unbelievable! I love playing a game with awesome graphics it just makes the game that much more fun to be able to look around and admire the scenery. The mini-games were varied and medium difficulty. They fit in with the game nicely with appropriate themes. I had to consult the strategy guide a few times to help me solve some of the mini-games. The bonus chapter actually took up where the main game left off which made it feel like it was part of the main game. It seemed rather long too. There was a lot of traveling between scenes in this game and I did end up using the jump map often to avoid having to backtrack through all the scenes but it was still fun. This was the first game I played in this series and I am looking forward to playing the rest of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MYSTERIOUS AND DEEPLY RELAXING! I was instantly drawn into this game! I think I would’ve called it “The Paris & Versailles Mystery,” because that’s where you are, in the 18th century, doing your investigating! Decadently gilded rooms, a mix of sumptuous and olde-worlde buildings, alleys, scenic look-outs, and charm throughout. The bird song is constant when you’re outdoors and it sounds so pretty; there’s so much variation that I couldn’t really detect the loop. The game is set during the evening and the glow of it warms all the scenes. Leaves drift down gently in the breeze which fades in and out. The music is orchestral as you would get accompanying a movie, and enhanced the atmosphere whenever I decided to listen to it: violins, cello, flute, horn, piano. The end section, maybe the last 5th takes you out into the country-side completely , so that was a surprise! The ambience and the sound effects are linked, but that’s ok I found, because they got the sound balance right (!) ie to hear the birds etc I did not have to suffer loud or unpleasant sounds of the mouse-click sound-effects. One of your objectives is to collect different scents from all kinds of locations. There’s nothing inappropriate or even remotely scary about this game. All the women are well-covered up and when they do succumb to the deadly fate of dehydration, you’re not presented with the full-on goriness of what they might look like close up. You only get an inkling, from some distance, of mottled-looking skin (the tops of shoulders, or the back of an arm). The types of places you go to are varied, you visit a house on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the port, a port with all the sounds of waves lapping the boat, seagulls calling, and ropes and equipment gently clanking. The rooms, streets and alleys as described earlier, including a jaunt into the Versailles Palace and the Notre Dame Cathedral. HOPS were of the word-list type with a minimal amount of interaction. They were not quite on par as the adventure part. You know how sometimes the HOPS are the better part of the game, well not in this case. They just didn’t have that captivating glow or arrangement. I still enjoyed them and the items were very well hidden (not small, just well hidden) so that was good. Puzzles were enjoyable. The settings included casual, advanced and hardcore and were changeable during the game. There are 35 fleur-de-lys to collect. Their locations are hidden by small x’s. I liked that and it continues into the bonus part of the game. A weakness of this game is to do with the notebook and notes you find lying around. Many times, you can’t zoom back into them, and once they’re in the notebook they’re too small to read. HINT BUTTON tells you where to go, but not what item to use, so if you’re missing an item you’ll need to refer to the strategy guide if you have the CE, or walkthrough for the SE, which BFG does. You can google it and it will come up. Hint button recharges at 30 seconds for the casual and 2 minutes for Advanced (didn’t play in Hardcore!) The task bar is lockable, the game was in widescreen for me (not all are). You get notes and map. The bonus game does not complete the main story in any way, but has the same main baddie. Bonus game is based in London, and includes Westminster Abbey. It was ok I thought, but I was ready to move on by then. Enjoyed the CE for the fleur-de-lys. Extras for CE include: bonus game, wallpaper, concept art, replayable puzzles, music, videos, but not replayable HOPs (at least I couldn’t see any). Here’s the thing about this game…it’s a game I almost passed up on, because of the title and the mention of dehydrated bodies!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Engrossing, captivating game! I just finished playing this game, as it was still lying around although I bought it about a year ago. What a very beautiful game! Makes me think a bit of the movie/novel 'perfume'. The music is stunning, based on very well known classical tunes, I loved it and stopped playing sometimes just to listen to the music.Graphics are gorgeous, you feel as if you are walking around in Paris. The making of potions is a very Original and fun feature. I found the story to be captivating and told in a very clear way with stunning cutscenes. Very good voiceovers as well. Hidden objects are very difficult to find, but fun. Loved the achievements as well. I played about 6 hours, and 1,5 hours for the bonusgame and found this game to be worth every penny. Try it and have fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Visually beautiful and fun to play Had a great time with this game (I got the CE edition)! The storyline is a grabber - stop an epidemic started by a maniac. You get to mix fragrances and travel around a lot of beautifully designed scenes. The animation was fairly well done by game standards of this ilk. I enjoyed the fact that the game lasted and yet moved along at a decent pace. The HOs were well done and the games/puzzles were fun and doable. The music is unobtrusive and soothing. There are various "achievements" you get in the CE version which are always fun as well as the bonus chapters. It was good to find another company that can design a fun game beside the usual standards. You'll like the game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hidden Object Game This is one of my favorite Big Fish hidden object games. I like the objective of having to collect scents throughout the game to make different mixtures; gives it a nice twist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hauntingly Beautiful Hidden Object Adventure Based on the Demo The soundtrack for this game is superb, hauntingly beautiful. The voiceovers are very well done. The graphics and visuals are beautiful, amazing. The storyline is interesting: young women are disappearing all over the countryside, bodies are turning up completely dehydrated. There is a story within a story because there is a plague in addition to the strange disappearances. The Detective is called in to solve the mysteries. The hidden object scenes are not too easy, not too hard, very entertaining and interactive. The mini puzzles are great. They are all interesting and a lot of fun ranging from easy to moderately hard. You get an interactive map that is very handy, a journal, and a scent catcher you use to find scents and make perfumes from them. It is a very interesting multi faceted game. It was an immediate buy for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reminds me of Perfume This game is beautiful with a wonderful premise -- you collect scents to solve the mystery. Collecting and mixing scents reminded me of the film Perfume which is about a serial killer who collects the scent of people to make a perfect scent. The artwork was lovely and the puzzles engaging. They might have been a bit more difficult, but it was extremely enjoyable and I look forward to another "Scents" game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The graphics are superb! I'm glad I bought this game. It's very well developed --graphics, game mechanics, sound make it a sheer pleasure to play. The mini-games are original and creative. The game is complete without the bonus chapter, but the bonus chapter continues the story, and it's nice and long. I really enjoyed playing this game and I highly recommend it.
