Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for a fantasy HO game I am usually not that bothered with regards to ‘fantasy’ Hidden Object games, as I tend to find them ‘samey’ in the fact that there is usually some creature (in this case a bear) as the ‘alter ego’ of the main protagonist. The problem also for me is that there is in the game dialogue a ‘flirt’ with the ‘other side’ in the form of ghosts or other mythical ‘other-world’ creatures. I am not really fond of this type of scenario and it does I admit kind of unnerve me a touch. I however decided to persevere with this game as it was a DD and for the price I thought I would take a punt. Considering it was a SE game, the VO and Voice acting was excellent and the dialogue whilst occasionally may have been a touch long, because it was spoken (rather than just being read) it didn’t really matter because as I stated the voice acting was good. The game was intuitive and did seem to have a ‘natural flow’, and the ‘junk scenes’ were a variety of ‘find the junk’ mixed with finding pairs and ‘solving the scene’ as it were by this I mean one action followed another action until all the objectives for that scene had been completed. The variety therefore and not know what you would be tasked with on each of the ‘junk scenes’ further enhanced the gameplay for me. The soundtrack for a SE or even for a CE in general was excellent and really representative of the overall game-play. Normally (even in CE the sound can sometimes be a bit of let down and just be ‘soundbytes’ rather than full on music, I was pleasantly surprised that this soundtrack not only captured the overall mood of the game but also went one stage further and was a real asset to the overall game. The only negatives I had was that it was a bit difficult to navigate round the game-world and I had to use the map (which I don’t tend to), the problem with this was that on this game on the ‘advanced’ mode (mode I usually play in), it not only should your location but it also showed which locations had tasks yet to be completed. Some games don’t do this on the ‘advanced’ setting, this was though counter-acted by allowing me to make custom changes so that this would no longer be a problem. I don’t like to know the ‘tasks’ as for me it just then becomes akin to a ‘paint by numbers’ exercise in that you are just following the map to the next task completing it and then moving on, not a ‘flow of story for me’. There were also towards the end of the game a couple of puzzles that I had to skip one because it made absolutely no sense to me at all and other because it didn’t seem possible to complete (I had been trying for around 20 minutes before I completely gave up). Apart from the above 2 slight niggles I would heartedly recommend the game especially if you have a free token. I know it is a slightly older game, but don’t let that put you off, it is a game that can still ‘old its own’ today. If like me, you are not really a fan of ‘fantasy HO’ games I would still recommend to download the free trial as the story and music alone are well worth the ‘price of entry’ in my opinion.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the better HOGs I played the SE on expert, took me a bit over 4 hours to complete. It has a map and notes, although the notes are a bit hidden, you need to open the map and then change to the notes tab. I found it only after I'd already played for a couple of hours... This is a beautiful game to look at, the music is fitting and the voice-overs are well done. I really liked the variety of HOs in this game. The majority is very interactive, e.g. you need to find an item that helps you reveal another item that in turn will get you yet another item. In the end you'd get something you need to progress in the game, which I like because it helps with the flow of the game. The minigames were a mix of standard fare (e.g. put this mosaic back together) and some really unusual ones, and of varying difficulty. They did a really good job at integrating some of these minigames into the storyline as well, e.g. at some point you need to walk through a maze to get to your next destination and it turns into a minigame. Overall I liked the level of challenge in this game, not much running back and forth required, all very logical even if it wasn't immediately obvious what was needed to solve a puzzle. So, why only 4 stars? Actually, I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could but there were a couple of things that I didn't like as much as the rest. First, there were a lot of animated scenes in this game and it just took a tad too long to return to the active scene. By the end of the game that really got on my nerves. It also crashed to desktop a few times for me, which rarely happens with other HOGs so I think it might be something related to this game. And then, the storyline. I can't say why exactly, but it just didn't grip me even though it should have. This is an epic tale of betrayal, unreturned love, finding your destiny, and even a bit of a whodunnit, but it just left me cold. This is probably just me, though. All in all, the positives far outweigh the negatives, definitely a game you should try out!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Goldilocks with a fantastical twist! I played the demo and liked everything about this game, the story, graphics, music and HOS puzzles and games. The main character is Goldilocks son, left motherless 3 years before. He is charged with saving his father and the village from mystical bears, who it seems are on a murderous rampage. Puzzles are not hard and follow a logical path, not too much going back and forth, but some. Very good game for those who are beginners in the HOG scenario. The challenges are not what got me interested, but the storyline itself. I finished the demo when the hero was changing to a bear!. I have got to know what happens. This game offers 4 levels of difficulty, which I very much like the Custom. I will probably purchase this game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected After reading a lot of bad reviews, I had doubts about this game.. But it is better than I expected. Visually quite stunning, different mini games and puzzles, music (Middle Age) was very good and not too repetive. Big minus: the storyline is weak, didn t like the animal abuse and I am tired of battles against bears etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting Game! Storyline is very good, different. You have powers to change from human to bear. I got it mixed up with a story I had just played changing from human to wolf! The puzzles are fairly easy, nothing difficult. HOs were good combination of things which makes it more likable for me. Not a HO fan, but the varieties are making it much more enjoyable! Good journal and interactive map which always works for me. Game seem to be a good length. Was fun, enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Goldilock's Son And The Magic Bears As fate would have it, Goldilocks met her demise from the attack of one of those porridge eating magical bears! The fairy tale lives on however, with the son of Goldilocks, who has a personal vendetta against the bear that took his mothers life. There's no time to celebrate graduating from the local Hunting Academy, where you gained the knowledge needed to hunt bears. This quaint village has been plagued with vicious bear attacks, which has increased because dearly departed Goldilocks presumably took something from the magic bears, and they want it back! The academy needs to step up their academics because three students can't control a bear who is attacking their village. Perhaps it's because the only hunting gear they are equipped with are small leather straps with silver and blue balls attached for weights. This school certainly didn't prepare the students for real life eh? This game tends to be on the easy side, almost everything within the game is predictable and logical, the puzzles and mini games are short and not in the least bit complicated. The mini games range from small puzzles within the plus items in your inventory, to matching identical tokens by flipping two tokens at a time, if you don't find an exact match, the tokens rotate to a different spot. The Hidden Object Scenes are entertaining, I liked the HOS where you had to find silhouetted shapes, and use those shapes interactively between two different scenes. The Collectors Edition has 34 Morphing Objects, Wallpapers, Screensavers, Music, Concept Art, Movies, replayable Mini Games and Hidden Object Scenes, Achievements, a built in Strategy guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting and Weird at the Same Time If you like puzzles, you will definitely want to preview this game! I do not like puzzles, and therefore, I will neither finish the demo nor purchase. However, it seems to be an interesting game with lots to do and decent artwork. (Interesting to others, that is, not to me.) Unfortunately, the fable this game is based on is stretched way out of shape and time, and that was a huge turn-off for me. I winced every time our hero referred to his mother as "mom." Really? In the middle ages? He is voiced as a modern American teenager, which for a beast slayer is downright weird. I appreciated that there are custom settings, which is good. The bad is that the hint refill can only be shortened to 35 seconds. The hint refill can be shortened to ten. An abundance of magic and heroic deeds will likely please the fishies who enjoy that kind of thing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I'm Harold the talking bear The game is very easy and extremely silly with goofy talking bears that aren't scary. This game is good for beginners that want to advance to their skills at gaming. The game lasted approx. 4 hours at a expert level and during the final chapter I couldn't wait for it to be done. 2015
