Rated 4 out of 5 by from Is it REALLY Haunted This is posted after playing the entire game. Elephant has done it again. A fun, and interesting game. I really enjoyed it. The graphics, as always, are top notch and the sound is excellent, especially the voice overs. Music goes along with the action at the time and isn't annoying. Now the negative for me. If you love mini games, you're going to love this one. It seemed as though they were one right after another with a hidden object scene tossed in to make me happy. There are a lot of mini games and if you're like me and don't particularly care for them, you can always hit that wonderfully fast charging skip button. The minis, while plentiful, aren't really all that difficult. I played most of them. Hidden objects are varied which kept my interest throughout. You have an interactive map which takes you where you want to go and shows where there are things to do. There isn't a lot of running around back and forth, which I like, but what there is the map will assist you. Hint and skip are fast filling and there are numerous levels in which to play. Interesting story, that I won't go into. Big Fish does a great job giving you an idea of it. I was caught from the beginning, but I did get lost a bit. The reason is probable I had to do this in two days and lost the connection. I'm sure it will be clear next time I play. Other than that, the writers who develop these stories are darn good. I really did enjoy playing this and I think you probably will too. With the touch of syfi and reality mixed, the games, the graphics and sound make it well worth the time to at least try out. Enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average installment I've played a bunch of the Haunted Hotel titles. Actually, when I was looking for something to play I was surprised to realize that I had already downloaded and played six Haunted Hotel games. Like those six, Eclipse is a somewhat forgettable game with the added drawback of being really short. I finished in a few hours over the course of two days. This game has a few good jump scares, but the details of the story line are muddled and the ending is confusing. Honestly, the beginning is confusing, too. Why try to kill the professor outright in the first minute of the game and then keep him alive for once he's been captured. There are surprisingly few HO scenes for an HO game. And the puzzles are nothing new: crawl through the ventilation ducts following a map, fill the bucket with exactly 4 gallons of water, jump tiles to get all of one color on the left and the other color on the right, etc. If you're just looking for a few hours diversion, this game will suit. But don't expect anything new or unique.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Step Backward In This Excellent Series I give credit where it is due. For the fourth time in this series, the developers switch the entire thing up. Where previous games saw you pair up with a detective friend to head to different creepy hotels to solve the mystery, this time you are the unexplained and nondescript master detective employed by a rich guy with something to hide and fearing for his life to protect him. That does not go well, as you'd likely expect, and you are on a mission to prevent his untimely demise at the hands of a surprise kidnapper and some supernatural protection. I will say that the game looks good, perhaps even the best anything in this series has looked, and incorporates the sharper graphics of modern games, particularly when it comes to characters. Voice acting is good, also, and this game plays really more like an adventure than anything else. Provided you don't think too hard, there's more than enough action here to keep you hooked. It's also a nice touch that stuff is constantly happening to make it seem like a whole lot more is going on than really is. This game will make you jump once or twice in suspense, and that's an achievement. That said, the hidden object sequences have for the most part been further reduced to quick grab-all-of-these-type-of-things logjams and the find a pair behind another item scenes that in my mind aren't nearly as creative or fun as a true HOG. Minigames are plentiful, but some are solved in under a minute or two and none would qualify as truly difficult in my book besides a maze that is painful in its execution and solution. Those things drag down what could be a great game into above average land. I also had major issues with the ending of the standard version, which without giving anything away is lengthy to the point of ridiculous before falling rather flat. It's the longest part of a game I found rather short, and there's too many panels where you have to insert three random objects to get another object that goes in the panel in the very next room. There are the makings of a fantastic game here, but more renovations needed to occur to make this hotel visit a keeper for me. Worthy of a look but not nearly best in class.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too short, too easy. I completed the SE version on 'hardcore' in about 3 hours. You get an interactive map. Three difficulty settings and custom settings are available. This is a well-made game with good voice-overs and fitting musics and sounds. I liked the look of it, too, a bit gritty, mostly greyish-blue colours that contributed to the doom and gloom atmosphere of the game. The story is a bit science fiction-ish which is a nice change, although I'm still waiting for a real sci-fi storyline. Where are the aliens and UFOs in HOGs? Anyway, the story didn't really grip me, and the end was rather aprupt and left me a bit disappointed. The minigames and HOGs were with few exceptions very easy, but there are a lot of them and a good variety, too. I quite enjoyed what I'd call the "adventure-style" puzzles where you have to find a way to e.g. repair a tv. There wasn't much running around required, either, which is always a plus. If you are a fan of the series, if you don't mind the short duration, or if you like less challenging games then you might enjoy this one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Been There. Done That. What's up with all the 5-star ratings? Playing the demo, I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. Instead it was the same old HOPA recipe with all the same ingredients we've seen before. This game will probably have some appeal for fishies new to the pond, but I think for experienced Big Fish HOPA players, it will be "Been there. Done that."

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Didn't live up to the other Haunted Hotel's, I didn't really care for it. The other Haunted Hotel's are really good, I own them all. I really don't know what to say other then I really didn't enjoy it like I did the others. I don't know if I would recommend it or not some people might like it.
