Amulet of Time: Shadow of la Rochelle is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Ignore This Game...One of The BEST!! This is an EXCELLENT game and the very first one of the 100s I've played that has a superb, appropriate ending. Watch it right through the short credits, doesn't take much time. The game, in the beginning, was a little tricky (for me) because of a different way to gather and use the inventory items. I couldn't get anywhere, but when the light bulb came on, I went on a great adventure when a dream (?) took me back to 16th century France to solve the mystery of who was conspiring to kill the king. It was a very busy journey, extremely entertaining! The characters were real actors which made the already great graphics even better. I always take my time in a game to enjoy all the detail, color, scenery. No disappointment here! Great games/puzzles and HOGS. The puzzle at the end is excellent - there are 12 pieces of an amulet to collect throughout the game, they are necessary for the conclusion. There is no map, but the back and forth was not tedious like in so many other games. Was not hard to remember where to find things. Anyway, I really do think you will enjoy this game a lot. It was beautiful and different. Quality entertainment from start to finish. Remember - It gets off to a slow start, so the trial may give you a wrong impression of the game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost perfect This is the most enjoyable HO game I have played in a very long time. The locations were simply beautiful and the HO scenes even more so. These scenes were played differently than other games I have played and the novelty was a real treat. You moved your mouse around the room and when you discovered an item that required inventory objects then other places in the location became active and the objective list (list of items to find) changed to include what new things were needed. The items you had to find could be found in the room or in HO scenes. The rooms were usually several screens and your inventory objectives could be found in any of the connected screens. I really loved this aspect of the game. The HO puzzles were a bit easy but most were used more than once so the beauty of the scene could be viewed again. I have never understood those who mark it as a plus that an HO scene wasn’t revisited. I personally love to play them more than once especially when they are as beautiful as these were. I was always sorry to select the last item. There were a few problems such as one scene had two tusks but only one was right and another scene had three bottle type objects and the most least likely to be called a vial was the right vial. The problems with the HO puzzles didn’t bring down the game rating for me because everything else was right. There were only two gameplay difficulty settings. I played half the game at the casual/easy setting and then started over at the difficult setting because sparkles appeared on the items you were collecting around the room. I found it more enjoyable to have to search the rooms without hints not knowing whether it was the room itself or a new HO scene I needed to find. It was not a burden to start again since I was enjoying the game so much I wanted it to last much longer. There was almost no running back and forth between locations except for the multi-screen rooms you were in and I loved this. Most games I am ok with returning, finding and item, running back to other location until about halfway through when I lose track of the locations and where all the locked boxes and doors are. This game kept it pretty tight. It was very linear but it suited this game. Mini-puzzles were a little bit easier than optimum for me which means I could do all of them without much frustration and never skipped. Only one had me stumped on what to do. I completed it but wasn’t really sure why what I did worked. It wasn’t a perfect game but I am still rating it a 5 because for the first time in a very long time none of the things that weren’t perfect bugged me. I loved this game. I will be playing this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this game but.. I can't get past getting out the dungeon. There's an error saying something about a Panic package and called field? So every time I get the door unlocked and try to enter, it freezes and that message comes up. Help! I'm on the demo version and I would like to play it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from God save the KING!! Excellent, excellent, excellent!! The graphics without flaw, the scenery amazing and so true to real, the storyline 'historical' and very well put together. All was very impressive and easy to follow. *Even the credits were put together with all the writers etc dressed in character costumns.* I really enjoyed it and recommend it highly. I am positive to play it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 16th Century Fun This game was such fun to play! The story is engrossing, the journal/log is useful, the graphics are excellent, the cut scenes are great, the voice overs are acceptable, the music is not annoying like most games, the HOS are excellent, the mini games are fun and the ending is satisfying. For the most part, the game has a light, airy feel even though you are racing to solve the mystery. It is a nice change from the dark, creepy feel of some games. (I have nothing against dark and creepy games, I own quite a few; however, sometimes I need a break from them.) My only annoyance was a few of the HOS items have odd labels. For example, a "tea service" actually turns out to be a teacup and saucer, a "knitting needle" is actually either a crochet hook or tatting hook. There weren't many mis-labeled items, but it was annoying. Even with the annoyance, I highly recommend this game. It is a fun story and fun game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Design I enjoyed the mix of styles for finding objects and solving puzzles. Moving around the same room for most puzzles was a creative change of pace from going back and forth around the entire game. Those solutions are here also as well they should be. Knowing that the objectives for a puzzle were within the same room/building made me keep looking in that area. I enjoyed the multiple HOS as they were straight forward, not too difficult, and I received several needed objects as opposed to the typical 1 item. Nice! The graphics were quite impressive. Beautiful, colorful, and great detail. I love history and the past and they did an amazing job of making the scenes look authentic. The sound was very good, music was appropriate and relaxing. The storyline appeared to vaguely follow what may have truly went down in those dark and treacherous times. It's good to be King??? Thank You for a most excellent experience....
