Campfire Legends: The Babysitter is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from COME ON, COME CLOSER AND I'LL TELL YOU A STORY A great challenging game which had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There are voiceovers, but you don't have a journal/diary or interactive map, however it is easy to get move around without getting lost or what to do next. You collect little bugs/fire flies as you move around to use as hints. You will need these and you can collect up to 5 at a time. The graphics are good - kind of gritty but not too dark. Sound is good and the music is very creepy. There are no hidden object games in the main game. However, in Dr Haken's Journal, which you can play after you have played the main game, there are timed hidden object games to play for each room. You have 5 minutes to find all the items before you can go to the next room. I loved this and am still playing my way through the rooms. The mini games range from quite challenging to really hard. These can take a while to do, but if it gets just too hard then you can use your hints to skip the mini-games. I didn't do this, although I did come close a couple of times. So I looked in the walk through online to help. All up the game took me about 7 hours to play. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am going to buy 'Campfire - Last Act' to finish off the entire series. Definitely recommended - especially if you want a serious challenge with a great story line. This game is like reading a horror comic book but you are actually part of it. The developers did a terrific job and hopefully will keep bringing games like this out. This series is just so different from all those cookie cutter games out there, especially if you are in the mood for something different. WATCH YOUR BACK!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Retro Campy Horror Game (Good Game... Just a Few Issues) I like looking at older games and comparing them to what's new. While technology has brought us a lot of shiny new things, I feel that a lot of seasoned gamers have fallen out of love with the genre because there's something missing in the newer games. Maybe I've simply become desensitized, but I remember feeling scared or thrilled playing certain games. Maybe I've just gotten old and think that everything invented by these cocky green whippersnappers is subpar, not like the great games of legend. ;-) That being said, I'm hoping to find games that give me that same excitement that first brought me to the genre. The oldest review on BFG for this game was 2015, but I found a reference that dates back to 2010 online. So, this game is at least 10 years old. I thought that the graphics on this one looked good. They are older style but pretty easy to see (and I have horrible eyesight). The main character appears poser-rendered, but it's in keeping with the era of the game. The map is in two sections. Once you get to the second part, you can't go back to the first half until the game is at its end. However, it's complex enough to keep you looking around. The game is different from most other games I have played. You do look for hidden objects, but they are not all within the same scene. You have to travel around. For this reason, there is a lot of back and forth, but most of the objects being hunted are relevant to the story. Some of the objects were challenging to find. I think that I was looking too hard for some of them, but it became easier after I found the first one and knew what I was looking for. Although there are cut scenes where you are looking at the babysitter, you play the game as the babysitter. The puzzles are mostly unique and somewhat challenging. I got stuck on the handcuffs because I wasn't sure what I was doing and what I should be doing. At that point, I went online to dig up a walkthrough, which helped. A few hiccups... there were two or three cut scenes that began right after completing a task in a popup window. The popup window did not automatically vanish, and the cut scene played behind the popup window. Or maybe didn't play at all. I couldn't see it, but I heard the video. My mouse was disabled during the cut scene, so I couldn't close the popup window to see what was happening. So, I felt that I lost some of the story by not being able to see what was happening. It's like when someone puts their hands over your eyes during the one moment that something is happening during a movie. You hear screaming, but no clue what is going on. Thing number two... In this game, the hint feature is not some eternal gizmo that recharges after a set period of time. No, you have to gather the hints as you go around. If you don't have any, tough. (That's what Meghan said.) I had no idea how the hints worked until I looked at the walkthrough. The walkthrough described them as fireflies. I thought they looked like round buttons or eyeballs, like a beetle or something like that. They have a little circle in them. I had to use them a couple of times because the instructions on the puzzles are very scarce. It's like "rotate the knobs," but you have no idea where you're supposed to be aiming this beam of light. I figured out most of it on my own, but there were a couple of times where I would have abandoned the game if not for the walkthrough. When I was trying to open the handcuffs, I had no idea and was about to delete the game before I thought to look for a walkthrough. The puzzles are challenging, and, in that way, it's good to have something different that will make you think outside of the template that most new games seem to rely on. Some of the puzzles where I had to click and drag the mouse seemed harder than they should have been. Maybe because my laptop is being worked on, and I'm using this prehistoric Vista model where the mouse and keyboard aren't even USB and require the 20-year-old port to function. (But the ancient PC doesn't have a malicious computer-killing update.) The story, set in the 1980s, is strong and entertaining. The graphics are excellent for their age. If you want something in the hidden object genre that has a retro campy horror story with a bit of challenge, I recommend it, but be prepared for a couple of blind cut scenes and some back and forth hunting for objects. It was entertaining enough that I'm planning to get the other campfire game and play it, as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrating You could call it fine, but.... it becomes very frustrating when you cannot skip the puzzle in any possible way, you have no clues and infos. It looks like the game from the 90-ies ! Interesting plot but it fades when you go searching and searching and...nothing. Ufff!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible game This game is extremely frustrating. I usually play a demo before buying, but it was a one day sale and I didn't have time to play it first, so based on the 5 star review, I bought it. How bad could it be, anyway? Maybe considered boring by some, but that' O.K. Here are some of the problems. There may be more but I didn't play very far into the game and doubt I ever will. First, I play games for relaxation, so when a game is downright frustrating, it annoys me. This game has no clues that regenerate. You are supposed to find "fire flies". Why they are called fireflies, I don't know, but they don't glow and look like very small jade stones surrounded by dull gold. HOS items are very small and some impossible to see. There are misleading directions such as "pick up the spilled items from your purse from the ground" when in fact one item is hanging from a fence. Graphics are acceptable and this could have been a good game. As it is, it is nothing but frustrating and I hate to give it even one star for that reason. I wish BFG had a money back guarantee, as I would use it for this game. BFG shouldn't even offer it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this if you have hair. If you have hair you will be pulling it out by the end of this game. The story line is lacking & could have been so much better considering the subject matter. There is no map, no journal and lots of going back & forth. The puzzles aren't challenging, just extremely frustrating. You may know what needs to be done but unless you get your cursor in the exact spot it will not work. To get a hint you need to collect 'fireflies" which are not fireflies at all but a beetle of some sort. The hints don't help much as it will tell you to do something that you were already told to do. If you get stuck in a puzzle you better have three beetles or you can't skip it. When you finish the game (after pulling your hair out) you get to the "bonus section" which is supposed to give you a backstory but it is ridiculous as well. The bonus section is nothing but HOS in junk piles and they are timed. I did finish it even though I kept threatening to put myself out of my misery and just quit and uninstall. Waste of a credit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible game These campfire legend games are way too hard to play when you can not use hints.....It is way too hard to find the bugs for hints all the time....You should just be able to get a hint every 30 seconds, and you should be able to skip the game without the bugs.
