Mystery of the Ancients: Mud Water Creek Collector's Edition is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you like murders and mayhem, you might like this game Played this last night, casually (as I first play new games). I think I would never be able to complete it on a more difficult level. I had to rely heavily on the hints and sometimes the guide, as I couldn't always follow the "logic" in the game. Creepy games don't usually bother me too much, but I have to say that the scenes with the Butcher really freaked me out! (And I still remember the movie, "Psycho" from my early teens, so I don't watch things like chainsaw murders or serious zombie movies!) I do have the other games in this series, so I will probably keep buying them! Try it for yourself, but be warned that the creepiest parts (in my opinion) don't come up in the trial.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from did not engage The storyline did not engage me atall. I felt bored very quickly and did not finish the demo. I think this sort of plot is very overdone. It all seems a little silly tho I am more than happy to play loads of games that have a fantasy line. Not for me this time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you love the occult you will like it I played half of the Demo and was quite interested till the typical occult themes began: spirits, amulets, talking to spirits, occult symbols etc. Is it not possible to make a game without all the occult things? The graphics and the voiceover are well done, it is creepy and if it would have toned done the occult background I would have bought it. So I deleted it and will wait for the next new game. Really too bad.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Whatever Happened to Arlene Couldn't Have Happened to a More Deserving Soul! Bob Proposed to his old girl friend, Arlene, a magic student. Then Arlene disappeared. Bob met Sarah. Bob gave her a family heirloom necklace that he had also given to Arlene. Arlene comes back madder than a wet cat and as equally unattractive. She takes Sarah and then Bob away with her - she'll be back for you next! Good stuff:There are HOPs, mini-games, and a fair to middling story. The VOs are good as is the artwork. Everything is suitably grim and gloomy for the story-line. You will have an amulet to help you fend off Arlene and her hench-ghosts by playing a connect three or more game each time you use it. Bad stuff: As usual, we will not only be playing detective, but also master thief. Feel free to help yourself to whatever isn't nailed down. And please don't expect logic - the shed that you declare unused for years still has a light burning in it and a stock of fresh fruits and vegetables for the resident raccoon you meet as soon as you oil those horribly rusted hinges on the door. I have a couple of the earlier games in this series and this new offering reminds me of the reason I don't have all of them. A hit or miss quality of both game and story are not desirable features in a new game. Maybe next time. Please try before you buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The title is apt: this game is a MUDdled mess! Because of a great sale today, buying this game and getting another CE for $4.99 is a nice offer from BFG. Unfortunately Mystery of the Ancients isn't worthy of a purchase. Another in a long line of female paranormal experts is summoned to the Price Estate by Bob Price. Some very weird events are occurring. How many times have we seen this scenario? She meets a boatman who will transport her to all the needed places in a series of islands that require hopping. How many times have we seen this scenario? Upon meeting Bob Price, the characters are accosted by the ghost of Angela who once was betrothed to Bob but according to Bob, Angela ditched him. Why do I not believe Bob? Angela then abducts Bob's wife. This is another scenario seen way too many times in HOPAs. There is not a paragraph of originality in the meager story line. As to the HO scenes and puzzles again the player is faced with nothing but the same old same old. We need to find keys ( why is everything always locked in these games ? ) fuses, wires, tokens that open boxes, etc., etc., etc.One of the lamest tasks was feeding a raccoon a dozen food items. In turn he gives us a dozen fuses. I am underwhelmed. When faced against Angela in her attempts at foiling us in certain scenes, the developer gives us the easiest possible puzzles imaginable using a variation on traditional Match 3s. Bats and game character figurines are among the collectibles. I just don't care. Some demos end with a cliffhanger dilemma, something to whet the appetite. This demo ends with nary a whimper. Mariaglorum generally makes good games. Not this time. I just replayed one of the Echoes of the Past games. Time to revisit another. If Orneon is still out there: HELP !! We need something good. Judge for yourselves, IMO this installment of Mystery of the Ancients is banal, tedious, boring, YAWN. Time for a nap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from childish this game would be perfect for an 8 yr. old. it was a challenge just to finish.zero logic, zero fun and the same old game. even with a map, so much back and forth, the graphics were blurry more times than not. this was a bad game, hands down.i understand what they were aiming for...just missed it by a mile.
