Edge of Reality: Ring of Destiny is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only Average This game seems like it had the potential to be much better. Given how central the "Ring of Destiny" is to the theme, you'd think it's abilities/activation costs would have been fleshed-out better. For example (SPOILER ALERT), one "ability", used only once, simply involves observing something passing overhead...really??? The "activation cost" for another ability is herding four dots of light into a circle...another is completing a small connect-the-dots puzzle. The HO scenes are old-school, w/ only minor interaction (the one played early in the demo has the most interaction, which I find misleading, as it's the only time you'll see that in the entire game). While there are a few good mini-games to be had, this game is actually quite sub-par compared to other offerings, including previous games from the same developer. I got the CE on a deal, so I ain't mad, but over-the-top gaming goodness, this isn't.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Puzzles were Difficult Everything about this game was ok except the puzzles! The difficulty of most of these puzzles was off the chart. Most of the time I had no clue what I was suppose to do. I wound up skipping over 1/2 of the puzzles. I hate that~

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They're running before they can walk Other reviewers have described this as a fantasy game and it certainly starts that way, with the main character being transported to a magic realm on a quest to save all of existence (etc). That was fun and well-executed but the gameplay has been steadily deteriorating ever since... and I'm not just talking about the storyline (that has had zero developments since the introduction), I'm also talking about the mechanics of the game. They seem to be falling apart before my very eyes. This is the second game I've bought in a short time from 4Friends that had a good premise, but was ruined by glitches that made it seriously un-fun to play. The same issues are present here as in their recent Oz game: there is a lag whenever I click on anything; the screen freezes during the transition between areas; many times I have had to click the same object 2-3 times before anything happens at all, and the minigames are in many cases unplayable because the necessary buttons aren't there, or don't work. Added to which, the 'helpful' comments suddenly vanished about 2.5 hours into the game. At present, there is just a blank space where that text should be whenever I click on a new area. It's almost as if the devs forgot to put any text in because they were in such a rush to get the game out. A pretty glaring oversight if you ask me...!! My overall impression of 4Friends is that they're attempting to run before they can walk, packing far too many fancy features into the game that they don't know how to handle. They may be better off mastering the basics - technically and creatively - before attempting an extravaganza.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good thing I got this one on sale.... Good grief, glad that one is over. Very boring and foolish. Voice-overs, constant cut scenes and lengthy narratives took up most of the time in this game. HOS were OK, but the mini-games/puzzles were awful. Instructions were no clear and therefore rendered the puzzles tedious and confusing. Glad I had the skip and hint on very quick refresh. Transporter map was good, but I got so tired of this game I just used the hint to get me around to the end. Gameplay was tedious and at times just not very clear. Color was dark most of the time....dumb storyline. Good grief, I can't believe I got suckered into this one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Silly, Adolescent Fantasy Game So awful I couldn't finish the demo. Maybe I'm just not into fantasy games, but I got hooked in because there was a dog in it. (Note to developers: Adding a dog to a bad game won't make it a good game.) When demoing this game, I became bored and disgusted with having to suffer through constant voiceovers, cut scenes, and over-long story telling. Not even the HOS were fun -- mostly either too easy or needing a hint to know where to look. I dislike puzzles and always skip them, except in this game some were embedded in the gameplay. In one, it took me several tries just to figure out the code to a lock. Even in the gameplay, it wasn't clear what to do at least half of the time. I have read numerous reviews of a variety of different games that complain the newer games aren't as interesting, story lines are illogical and/or too far out, and less care is taken in their creation. I've been playing HOGs on Big Fish since 2009, and I agree. Lately I've been replaying my old games and buying fewer new ones.
