Phantasmat: Reign of Shadows is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nightmares, Visions, and Monsters, Oh My! You are trying to locate your sister to inform her of the death of your father and settle things related to it. Your sister had run off years ago, for reasons they explain in the game. She started working for Dr. Corvine, along with others, to help with his experiment. No one expected what happened next. In the spirit of not giving too much away, I will admit that I jumped a few times at the "scares" scattered throughout the game. I thought something in one case, and it turned out to be sort of true... and the game had me guessing on another until it tossed the truth at me. As I have just started playing Phantasmat games again just recently, I have to admit that I enjoyed every minute of it. They did a great job on this game. If you enjoy a good mystery/horror game, then I think you will enjoy this. Can you uncover the secret(s) of Dr. Corvine and the truth of the experiment at this resort? Try the game and see what you think.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, again at last an existing, challenging game, highest quality, decent length. I love it. My rating is based on playing the entire SE. It meets all of my requirements. I don't understand the poor ratings, but liking is indivual. - Story: Mystery story. Dr. Corvine wants to discover, what lurks in the dark. You’re looking for your sister, who is hired by him. Deep and gloomy secrets are to be unfolded. From my point of view, the story is indeed thrilling, albeit the end is not a completely happy end. - Difficulty can be customized in all criteria: Tutorial, sparkles, map issues, glitter, contextual pointer, plus item indicator, helping texts, penalty and hint / skip recharge. - Graphics/locations: Extremely good entry, highest quality. EIPIX guys do a really fine job. A little bit gloomy. Locations are to be discovered step by step, mostly are 5-7 available. Detailed and accordingly designed. - Animation / Voice-overs: high end quality. - Music: fitting, gritty. - Tools: you have an interactive map. - HO’s: Accentuated applied. A pretty huge variety of different types …description, silhouettes, morphing objects, interactive modes, riddles.… Some can be switched to a match 3 game. - Mini games: Interesting, diversified, moderate. - Adventure part: Almost logical, not too obvious. W/o helping texts you have to think about. Some tasks weren’t so clear e.g. typewriter and needed some of trial and error. The idea to burn a rope with a lighter instead of using the knife, is a little bit unusual. - Length: I needed about 5 1/2 hours for completing, w/o using hints or map.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasant surprise After previous disappointing instalments in this series and the poor reviews, I had no intention of buying this game. But 2-for-1 weekend was ending and I needed another game for my cart quickly, so I added this one, not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! I finished the game and thought it was great. The story is interesting and is a bit more fleshed out than the usual kidnapped-loved-one-in-spooky-huge-house. The setting - a mountain resort that's been taken over by a mad scientist for his experiment - was creepy and had enough details that merged together the two completely different aspects of a resort and a science lab, which made it feel much more fresh and unique than recent offerings. I thought the voice acting was great and the game features (map, hint, etc) worked well. What I really appreciated though was that there were several mini games that were quite challenging. I'm really glad I bought this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Haven't played a good HOG for a while, so refreshing! Although the game is not a CE, it is very long with lots of amusement. I had great time playing it, it was so refreshing to play a well designed & implemented game. Definately recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHAT IS LURKING IN THE SHADOWS AT ARCADIA RESORT? During October we had a plethora of creepy games set in decaying hotels or in this case a remote resort. Although I am a bit tired of this trend, I must say that Phantasmat: Reign of Shadows is a surprising game that is much better than several of the past games in the series. Although the gameplay is fairly much the same, the puzzles are excellent and they are what make the game much better, at least for me. The developer has shown a tremendous amount of creativity that is sure to please many gamers who seem to be tired of the same old thing. In Reign of Shadows you play the game as Ava who is on a trip to notify your sister of your father’s passing. Valerie has been estranged from dad and when she left she asked you not to look for her. With the help of a private detective you manage to track her down to a private resort located in a remote mountain area in Oregon. The Arcadia Resort, now owned by Dr. Edwin Corvine, was once renowned as a spa for the “rich and famous.” After a slippery start when you first arrive at resort, you realize that it has definitely seen better days. When you finally you manage enter the compound your journey through darkness and the machinations of Dr. Corvine begin. Will you be able to save Valerie, or is it already too late? The graphics are at times dreary but with surprisingly colorful scenes (mostly the HOPS) thrown in to keep the game from drowning in gloom. Most of the voiceovers are quite good along with a sound package that adds to the “creepy” nature of the game. There is a custom mode of gameplay for those of you who like to fiddle with hint and skip times. An interactive map that helps you move quickly from one place to another is found early in the game. The HOP scenes are fairly standard but there are some new bits of creativity thrown into the mix. There is an alternate match 3 game offered if you don’t want to search for items in the scenes. Where I think the game becomes a notch above the usual is with the puzzles that are terrific. Some of the puzzles are challenging and include a gear-type puzzle that I love. It’s been quite some time since I have seen this puzzle pop up in HOPA games and it is an old favorite. The puzzle is one where we must move gears to the appropriate place based on their color and at first the mechanics seemed a bit touchy but once you figure out how it works all is good. There is also a “rooms” type puzzle that is quite tricky and took me a while to figure out (finally with some help from the SG – lol). If you would rather take a look at the CE version of the game it includes 21 morphing objects to find and this time they are scattered in scenes in the game. Some of them are very difficult to find and I know I have missed some of them because I just couldn’t spot them. Even though the CE package doesn’t have all of the collectibles we normally find in game from this developer, I would recommend it because of the extra help provided by the strategy guide. If you are new to the genre of HOPA games then the CE is probably your best bet. Even though I wasn’t expecting too much from this new Phantasmat game it turned out to be a pleasant surprise and is much, much better than I thought. I immensely enjoyed the puzzles and even the HOP scenes. The storyline was intriguing and if you are familiar with other games in the series, there is a bit of a surprising twist. That being said, I will let you figure out if that will be the case with Reign of Shadows or if the game veers away from the series’ signature this time around. I had my doubts about the game when I began playing, so I urge to play the demo because it might just change any preconceived idea about the game. If you try it, I hope you enjoy Phantasmat Reign of Shadows.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The shadow Not a bad game. More super natural game than I play most of the time. Longer game than most of the new ones. A little odd than creepy but the nurse was creepy. Used the hint button more than I'm use to but it was hard to follow at times. Not in to the super natural games much so maybe the reason I had a hard time following. More searching for items and using them in this game but that is the reason for a longer game . Voice acting was very good. Graphics ok and music was the same through out and some what a pain . Odd game but not like others I have played so for something different get this game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Absorbing game play, excellent cinematics I'm not a fan of spooky, gloomy scenery, but the cinematics, voiceovers, game play, and storyline are executed brilliantly, making for an absorbing mystery HO game. You are lured to the abandoned and rundown Arcadia Resort based on a letter received from your long lost sister and become trapped among the ruins and possibly become part of a trap set for you by the demented Edward Corvine. The series of actions as you progress through the resort is absorbing and fun, despite the creepy surroundings. There's a good balance of HOPs and puzzles. One thing I didn't like is the Map does not show areas where actions are needed on advanced level, which is a departure from most games. Most puzzles are straightforward, with a few exceptions. This is a long game, with cinematics comparable to current movies. The voiceovers are excellent and appropriate to the storyline. If you can stomach the dark and creepy surrounds, this is a game with a lot to offer for intrepid detective lovers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Want your dreams to come true? How 'bout yer nightmares? A 2016 game. Completed game. This game is only to be played if you are in the mood for dark, spooky and twisted. The story is well paced. A madman has a pet...a pet monster! If the voice begins to grate on you and make you uncomfortable, you can press the "Continue" button and speed read the dialogue. The graphics are on the realistic side and the story is set in the winter. Not too over the top, and safely remains within a PG-13 I would say. Kinda fun with the monsters an' all. Lots of puzzles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Who's lurking in the dark?! A pretty game in all its gloominess, with shadows ready to swallow the living and the ghosts. You'll have a zillion things to explore, collect and combine and many interesting places to visit. My only remark would be, that I'd prefer this type of game to be even more thriller-ish and really dark! Otherwise it's a full 4-star HOG.
