Beyond: Star Descendant Collector's Edition is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lacking the kitsch of first Beyond but still a great game Let me start by saying I was absolutely delighted with the first Beyond game--not only a sci-fi themed game, but with the fun 50's theme, as well. I loved every minute. When this game came out, I didn't even bother with reviews but snapped it up right away. Now that I'm finally playing it, I have to say I am disappointed that the same sense of fun and kitsch doesn't pervade this one--it's a more "serious sci-fi" kind of game, even with the roller-coaster at the beginning. That said, it's still an excellent game and well worth playing. The visuals are excellent, and the storyline is at least a little bit original, though the "stolen child" theme is a common one. Here the child is taken for a reason rather than randomly or by accident or to hold as hostage, which is a nice twist. The mini-games are also more creative than average, and sometimes even when I think I know what the game wants, there is a difference from the usual expectations. Clearly a lot of effort has gone into the game to make it original and fun. And of course, the sci-fi theme is always a nice break from fantasy or "gritty crime" type games. The CE elements are fun, too, with morphing objects in the HO scenes and collectible rockets just as in the first game. I haven't finished, so I'm not sure what else it might contain, but so far, I'm impressed and engaged. While the first Beyond was in my view a 6 out of 5, this one is a solid 5/5 and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thomas' birthday start out so well. . . Top notch in my gaming book! I had thought this Beyond may have been a sequel to the first, but it wasn't. I now see why it took so long to produce this game. It really is awesome in it's graphics, HO scenes, Mini Puzzles and Games. A strange package is received on Thomas's birthday and that package starts the whole adventure! Thomas's mother, Sarah, is one talented lady and would do just about anything to find Thomas, when he is kidnapped and taken away. This is the Collector's Edition and is well worth the price. The extras which include a Bonus Game, Achievements and Collectables are simply added fun to the overall game. It has only been recently that I have been trying to concentrate on collecting the Collectables. I do tend to forget when I am engrossed in the story plot, but I am getting better. They are fun to look for, too. The graphics are awesome, in my book. They fit the story line and can be seen with a good monitor. I happen to have an HDMI connection for my games and that has made a difference in the seeing of the graphics, for me. The storyline keeps you going. I simply HAD to find out what this kidnapping was all about and how it was resolved! The game was long playing, as well. I do hate it when a game is simply short and sweet. When I am playing a game, I want it to be long, non-boring and challenging. This game did it, for me. I do recommend this game for Teenagers and Adults. The game itself is involved and not really meant for young children. But for Beginners there is an wonderful Option where you can "customize" your own settings of how quickly a Hint button will recharge, as well as the Skip button charging. Do not hesitate to use the Hint or Skip buttons when you are a Beginner. For me, this was how I learned to play the HOPA (Hidden Objects, Puzzles and Adventure) games. It took me awhile to learn the ropes of HOPA games. I fell in love with HO games and it simply went from there to now. I look forward to the challenge of the game, these days. The Bonus Game is quite good in this game. I will not go into detail what it is about, just that it is good. I am looking forward to other Beyond games. My only hope is that the Developers are planning or working on one, right now. Trial this game and I think, you will want to purchase it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was Rocketed off to a Fun Relaxing Game This Game came out Nov 2016 and I bought it Dec 2016 and I just got around to playing and finishing it Mar 2018. It's has 20 beautiful hops with morphs. 16 in the main game and 4 in the bonus chapter. I would call these hops lovely. The mini-games are the fun and relaxing type just how I like them. The bonus chapter had one with riddles and I liked it because it was zeroed down to six pictures so I could play it. It has 4 pop-up book puzzles that look neat. Also mazes. They did a good job of making the space world come alive. Some of my favorite details were the Robotic briefcase, the moon port and popcorn and ice cream machines. The first game in this series Light Advent is my favorite and this one is next. I wish they had the next one already. The Bonus Chapter is a prequel. The collectibles are 31 Rockets and if you missed one you can go back and get it. After I finished playing the bonus and had all my rockets I got a surprise. A Bonus Hidden-Object game. I also have a 40 piece jigsaw puzzle that can be replayed. I really enjoyed this game. It's 5 Chapters + Bonus. Has achievements, 12 wallpapers, 22 characters (some have very unique names). Can replay 19 Hops and 10 Music.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only Mad Head will put a HOG in a roller coaster ride. I will admit that when the first Beyond game came out, it didn't interest me at first, because I wasn't that much into science fiction. But then I played it, and I was hooked. So when this second one came out, I purchased it without playing the demo. I finally got around to playing it, and I have to say, in my honest opinion, it has surpassed the first game. Granted, the premise of the story is the same as many others. Kid gets kidnapped and it's up to mom to save him. But that's where the similarity ends. Mad Head went to infinity and beyond in this game. First of all, if you're into list-type HOGs, then you might be disappointed. There aren't too many of those. But as usual, Mad Head got a bit creative with their HOGs. The first one, in a roller coaster no doubt, is in three sections, and you are choosing a series of different galaxies, stars, and other celestial objects. Most people don't like helpers in their games. Mad Head got creative with that as well. You have two helpers in this game. The first one you find on Earth, and later you return him to his owner. The second is a person who can create portals for you when necessary. Mad Head games have never been excessively challenging, but this game, like all the others, is still very engaging. It's very simple to complete the main game in less than four hours, but the extras make up for that as well. I've always enjoyed the jigsaw puzzle, and the huge HOG that I'll replay over and over again just to try to obtain at least 2 stars, if not 3 on it. As usual, the graphics of this Mad Head game are superb, and the music is appropriate. The voice acting is pretty good and yeah, mom is almost convincing when she's mad. I have played every Mad Head game, except one, and I've enjoyed them all. So, yes, I fully recommend this game, especially the CE version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Game Yet This is such a fun game. It's so much better than most of the ones out right now; the creativity and innovation in the mini games and HOPs were a joy to discover, and the storyline was interesting to follow. I wish all the Big Fish developers would rise to this level in making HOP/adventure games. Kudos to Mad Head Games, they're the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Game! I've been playing Big Fish HOPs for a couple years now and I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this game! Others have told all about the specifics, so I won't go into them. What I loved was that it was SO different from most of the games from the last couple years. Not once did I find myself thinking it was lame, too long, too difficult. The music was nice, varied background music. The graphics were gorgeous. The story line was very different and very well written. I never felt that I had lost the story line as I traveled forward. The games and HOPs were fun and not frustrating, but weren't too easy, either. Please Mad Head! More like this and the Adam Wolfe games! These have broken the mold for sure!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Music, Complex Storyline, Gorgeous Visuals Mad Head Games leads in audio and visual quality hands down. This game is their #1! I have played it three times over and downloaded the audio tracks, because the music is just mesmerizing. Truly the best game on BFG in a very long time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I did a bad thing, and it was rewarding I loved Beyond: Light Advent, it was a 50s SciFi movie that I could live. When beta testing Beyond: Star Descendant, I knew that Waiting to play the game would be torture. Mad Head Games might think that I should feel guilty about pestering them to release this game, but I enjoyed it too much to do that. Unlike Light Advent, Star descendant is more of a mashup of a government paranormal investigation series of the 90s with a franchise of humans exploring interstellar space using alien technology. The game does not disappoint, I loved every minute of playing it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from another "Beyond fantastic" game Mad Head are just the best.! This story is so engaging and interesting - new worlds and new peoples. My bugbear - portals - are no longer boring ways to change scene but have become pop ups which I love. The best thing about these devs is that they have brilliant voiceovers and music. Everything about this game is just so good and I cannot recommend it enough. Happy hours indeed.
