Haunted Hotel: Personal Nightmare is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Things That Go Bump Good game play with interesting hidden objects and mini-puzzles. As others have stated the game had good graphics. It had the typical options of game play and modes of travel (transporting).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not the Hotel California, but it's very, very close! Okay, so the graphics are little old school, but that fits with the game's mood and ambiance and does not detract from the overall enjoyment factor. Others have described the story and play-by-play, so I won't recreate their good efforts. A bonus for me in this game, being the old curmudgeon that I am, is that I get to play in my own gender for a change. Not that I have anything against female antagonists, who can be very capable and heroic, it’s just that I get a little tired of having to cross-dress, as it where. Background sounds, music, and voice-overs are all very well done, and certainly enhance the game-play experience. The map, as in all of the Haunted Hotel games, is a very good tool. The HO sequences are the usual mix, with enough of a twist so that they are not entirely run-of-the-mill. The same can be said of the mini-games. I played and reviewed the CE demo of this game and commented that not being a fan of CEs —which you already know if you’ve read any of my other reviews— I would wait for the SE game and buy that one. I have several of the Haunted Hotel games, and have now added this one to my collection. As always, my caveat is that you play the demo and decide for yourself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Elephant Adds Another Winner to the Series This is posted after playing the entire game. I thoroughly enjoyed this game! Even though it had ghosts and other things that go bump in the night, it was fun beyond my wildest expectations. Graphics were really good. Everything was clear and even though it was dark, it went along with the theme of the game. Effects were very good and the voice overs were excellently performed. Just what I have come to expect from Elephant Games. The music was good and not intrusive at all. The thing I liked about it was the level of challenge. I loved being able to complete the majority of the mini games, which means I have either developed more patience or they were rather simple. I would bet on the latter. If you are one of those gamers who love challenging puzzles, I don't think you will care for this one. I think the only complaint with the minis would be the repetition. When I do a puzzle, I don't like to turn around and repeat it again at the same time. There were several of those. Along with that, there really wasn't much new with the puzzles. Put the dot in the colored hole, etc, etc, etc. You have several modes of difficulty and I chose the custom so I could have the hint and skip charge quicker. The interactive map was a big help, because it does get a bit confusing as to what needed done and where you need to go. I liked the story. One reason was it is a male lead. No need to go dress in my finest gown and heels to get into the part. We need more of these or at least be able to chose the gender of the player. When the story began I thought they had written my buddy James out of the storyline, but he was there in a minor role. I don't know why I like him so much, maybe it's the voice or just the character itself, but this series wouldn't be the same without him. Others well go into depth about the story itself, so I'll just leave it that there is continuity and it is very easy to follow. It had me hooked from the very beginning to the end. As always try the demo. If you want a game that is relaxing, yet exciting to play this is yours. Thank you Elephant Games for another winner in the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR? REVIEW FROM COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS You play Steven Blake to find your mother and sister who went missing 20 years ago. There is: * Voiceovers (with dialogue); * Casual, Advanced, Hardcore and Custom modes; * Interactive map. The graphics are very good - everywhere is clear to see and well defined. There are plenty of ghosts popping up and whizzing passed to keep you company throughout the game. Colour is good and the music is orchestral and piano which plays quietly in the background. I enjoyed the story line. Its not complicated so it makes it easy to concentrate on the game. The hidden object games are slightly interactive straightforward, silhouette and finding 6 pairs of items. These are all very easy to do and items are clear to see and grab. Each HOP only takes 2-3 minutes to do which you will do once. The mini-games are fun to do. I've seen them all before but I enjoyed doing them again. The marble game took me ages to do because I wasn't quite fast enough. I found I didn't need to use the interactive map at all because there are only a few scenes to accomplish before moving on, so there was no need to use it. All up the game, bonus and extras took me about 5 hours (without hinting or skipping anything). So do you get the CE or SE? The bonus game is about your father, George Blake, and Thomas Coldwell which is separate to the main game. There also 16 Achievements; 20 morphing objects, 20 puzzle pieces in the game and bonus and collecting items for the Fear Room which are all very easy to find. There is also a Secret Room with morphing objects to find. Overall a great game to play. A little on the easy side but definitely worth having a look at. Happy playing fishies.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gotta' find those keys! I just finished the SE version. Not bad for an SE but I have ambivalent feelings about this game. The story was great, voiceovers were real good, but the graphics were muddy; the music was more special effects oriented hardly any music per se, and it played over and over again, whereby I had to mute the sound or adjust the sound bars in the option feature of the game. I liked the concept of dealing with one's fears but in this game you will have to deal with others' as well. A nice variety of HOS and puzzles which were really good, I thought. I'm giving this game 3.75 stars. The jump-to map was good. Sometimes when clicking on an item I'd have to do it a couple more times and often had to situate my mouse a certain way before I could retrieve the object. That was a nuisance. The ambiance was a bit too dreary for my taste and had the mechanics of this game been a bit better I would have given it a higher score. I still recommend this game. Try it out. See for yourselves.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I really like the Haunted Hotel games, until now :-( I have played a lot of the Haunted Hotel games and have really enjoyed them. This one was really lacking. It felt like it was just sort of thrown together without much care. It started out promising, but, went down hill fast. Not scary at all, puzzles were easy, and there weren't really any new factors that I like so much about the previous ones. I think that the worst part was how short it was. I went through this whole game in less than 4 hours, and I play on the hardest levels. Very disappointing! Hope they do better next time!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from What a great start, but then the trial was over. They got me again, you would think I would learn my lesson but nope I just keep falling for it. The trial was great with some great puzzles and then it was over and I was hooked. I paid my cash and 25 minutes later the entire game was complete. Such a shame because I really enjoy the hidden object games and if they include some sort of puzzle or quest all the better. Sad to say but it was all down hill to the end.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not For Me For one thing, the fat arrow that changed to a pointy arrow... why not just make it pointy all the time and be done with it? For another thing, the graphics were almost all dark blue. And the two guys who are supposed to be working with you but all they do is stand around and watch? I guess their special talent is moral support. Small irritations and minor annoyances, but enough to put me off. This game just isn't for me.
