Nancy Drew - Secret Of The Old Clock is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Classic Nancy Drew Fun for any age. Just complicated enough sleuthing, without taking weeks (and many head aches) to finish.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Try it out! I really love Nancy Drew but this game wasn't nearly as exciting as some of the other ones, don't get me wrong its still worth playing. I love the setting for the game and some of the characters you meet in this one. I also love the golf mini game but the problem that I had with this one is that some tasks that you have to complete bored me and I felt like they could have included the same task in the game but in a different way and it wouldn't have been so tedious.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Liked the setting but game can be frustrating... and the story is kind of weak. You have to run a lot of errands in this game by driving around in Nancy's car, and it takes away from the story and mystery. Learning to drive Nancy's car does come in handy later in the game, but while you are doing these errands it can get monotonous. The parts of the game that more so had to do with the mystery were more interesting, except for one puzzle that annoyed me so much that not being able to complete it caused me to quit the game for a few days. This puzzle had to do with sewing a dress and I had a very hard time with it. You need to sew the dress correctly in order to move on with the game, which is why I quit playing for a few days. When I came back, I was able to finally complete the sewing puzzle, but the game, in general, wasn't as fun for me after that, and there ended up being another mini-game near the end that was very frustrating for me as well. I made myself do it over and over again, despite my frustration, because I knew I was near the end of the game and would finally be able to finish once I passed it, but I found little enjoyment in such an aggravating mini-game. I did like the 1930's setting of the game, and I think they could have done a lot more with it. You get to drive Nancy around the town she is visiting a lot, but you do not get to see the inside of most of the places she visits or what the people she is interacting with look like, you just hear their voices when she speaks to them. There are only 4 people that you get to talk to face to face, and I did not think these characters were as fleshed out as the characters in other Nancy Drew games I have played. Having to run too many errands, and not having as much time to speak with them because of that, does seem to have to do with why I felt this way. Despite my frustrations, there were still some puzzles that I did like, and I also enjoyed a mini-game which allowed me to play miniature golf. Reading other reviews of this game it does seem as if some people found the mini golf part frustrating since it is not easy to pass it, and it did take me a little while to do it, but I still thought it was fun. You have to have a lot of patience when playing the puzzles and mini-games that can be challenging in order to enjoy this game and I get easily frustrated and do not have that kind of patience, so it took away from my enjoyment of the game. The mystery could have been better fleshed out and I was able to figure out who the culprit was quite a while before it was revealed. I am glad I played the game, and I found the 1930's setting to be a nice change from other Nancy Drew games, but I do not think I will play this game again in the future since it was more frustrating than fun.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Entry level for Newbies to Real Adventure games This has no HOG's, if your wanting to try your hand at a "real' adventure game, this would be a good start. Recommend you play in junior detective mode, or you will be taking notes, and it helps to know what to do next. There are no hint or skip buttons, it's not that sort of game. There are mini games. I played golf for several hours, just to beat par and win prize, but I can be stubborn that way! There is no walkthrough on BF, but you can Google one, I did have to resort on occasion. All-in-all, an ok game however, I do like the books better, but for someone who is hungry for a true adventure game without HOG, this is a good start. I plan on trying at least one more ND.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Fun For Me I tried to like this game but just couldn't. The puzzles were too hard, and I apparently suck at miniature golf because you had to make par in order to move ahead. After ten tries I had to uninstall. If the game had been fun overall maybe I could have overlooked and kept playing anyway even if I couldn't win but other aspects could not make up for that. Traipsing around back and forth in graphics that are only so so, bleh. I instead started on Nancy Drew: Silent Spy and it is MUCH BETTER! Better graphics, more exciting story and easier to get around, and you have a journal to keep you on track.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tedious, repetitive, confused I stopped 2/3rds of the way through when I had to stitch a dress in senior mode by guiding the fabric with the mouse. The placing the nuts and bolts in the right bins if you don't have enough money for the flat tire repair was also unforgiving, no way to skip, and totally tedious. You have to listen to the audio scenes again and again, particularly irritating was the constant need to fill up with gas and to have to endure the "Zippy gas" attendant's talk. The boring 6 minute record to get some audio clues was another low point. Just pathetic game design. And apparently the writers took from two Nancy Drew's: the Secret of the Old Clock and the Mystery of the Lilac Inn and threw them together in a really strange jumble, which is both confusing and unlikely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Very Monotonous and Tedious Drew Unlike the other 9 "Drews" I've played, this one just didn't cut it. All of the errand running, gas getting, tire fixing, etc, was a bit much for me. It was a downright drag, but I guess that has to be expected. After all, this was just Nancy's first case. I do not recommend this game.
