Rite of Passage: Hackamore Bluff Collector's Edition is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not all Mad Head Games have the Same Collectibles Based on the completed game and bonus material. I noticed in the Mad Head game Cadenza that they all have different collectibles like golden tickets, diamonds, music records and dancing couples. The Mad Head game Beyond has you collect Rockets. In a Shadowplay you collect eye symbols. Nevertales Forgotten Pages, you collected a book. In the second Rite of passage: Child of the Forest you collect acorns. This game you collect Twenty Nine Skulls. In my opinion most of them were hard to find. While part of their games have their signature symbols, it's ALWAYS been that they didn't include it in all their games. I like the different items to collect better. I loved this game. I liked every puzzle, every hop, the game play, the Grimoire Talisman that you watch a grid that places like five or six skull and you repeat the placement. I found this challenging. If you don't place them right it repeats the sequence so you can get it. I didn't skip any of them. I really enjoyed painting the Wolf and it was a bit tricky. It has Five Chapters + Bonus Chapter. The Guide is Excellent. I collected 29 morphs in the scenes and 21 morphs in the hops. I found this generous. They weren't easy in my opinion. All of the morphs are in the guide which I loved and they have a very good indicator. You must find all the morphing objects to unlock the bonus game which is a fifteen piece jigsaw puzzle which I liked. In the Hops Gallery you can replay Twenty one hops. I liked the Bonus Chapter. It's what happens afterwards and I liked the adventure. The details I liked were the Stone Turtles and the Buffalo. My only complaint is I had to put my monitor on 100% brightness to see every thing and it still was a bit dark. My monitor is HD and LED so it's newer, so I don't feel I should have problems. Try it for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same old HOPA but simply better This game was great fun. I loved the puzzles and the HO scenes were well made. Colours are not bright and breezy but the darkness is just right for the storyline. The voiceovers were well done and not annoying as can normally be the case for this female voice actor. The negativity about the female voice actor is just my personal opinion. Hidden collectible (x29 - same item throughout the game) can be found in every scene. They're not in your face, but not frustratingly hidden. There is an icon at the bottom left to let you know whether you've found it yet. Morphing objects (x50) are hidden in each scene and also in each HO scene. There is an icon at the bottom left to let you know whether you've found it yet. Map is good and although it doesn't show if you've missed a collectible or morphing object, you don't need that here because of the icons in bottom left of your screen. All achievements are achievable i.e. no need to finish the game in a certain amount of time and no need to play on a harder mode than you want to just to get an achievement. All in all, a good game well made and very enjoyable for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Challenging and Creepy Hidden Object Adventure Based on the Demo. This game has everything: great visuals, cool soundtrack with eerie, creepy voiceovers and eerie, creepy music; excellent, fun and challenging hidden object scenes, and lots of puzzles, some of them so challenging I had to skip them. There are morphing objects and collectibles. The well drawn main characters, the protagonists, are very likeable, every one else is not. Every one else is crabby, cranky, and just plain scary. This is the stuff of nightmares. On a creepy scale of 1 to 10, I would give this game a 13, and I'm not kidding. The creep factor was so high that every few minutes I wanted to click "exit", but like watching a fabulous horror movie, I was glued to my seat and had to keep playing to see what happened next. The Demo had a cliffhanger ending and I have to buy it to see what ultimately happens to the heroine and her hero. And to see if I can actually master all the puzzles in this game and find all the morphing objects and and collect all the skulls. Very, very challenging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RITE OF PASSAGE MEETS HAUNTED HOTEL - A TERRIFIC GAME Hackamore Bluff is an amazing addition to the Rite of Passage series and I love everything about it. The game has a great storyline that is well developed (for a change) and one that creates a great feeling of mystery and fright (at least for me). As you can see by the title of my review we might just be meeting some creepy townsfolk as we move through the game. The story centers on Carlos Montez who has been searching for something, but we don’t quite know what that might be at least early in the game. During a call to his wife (our character in the game) he tells her that he has finally found what he has spent years looking for. Just when he is about to tell her what that might be, the call is disconnected. Even though you try to call him back, he can’t be reached so you leave the safety of your home go in search of your beloved. Will you find Carlos and when you do what else will you find waiting for you in Hackamore Bluff. This is one of the first games in months that has held my attention and kept me on the edge of my chair as I played. When the demo ended I was so thoroughly involved in the game that it was a shock. For many of us who play virtually every HOPA game that comes our way, the mechanics and basics of the game are nothing new. We have the same tools but this time there is no cute little helper to amuse us with its antics. There is an amulet that must be (yep, you guessed it) recharged each time we use the thing. It will bounce, jiggle, and sparkle in our UI until we pick it up and use it for whatever the purpose might be. There is a puzzle to complete before it is ready to use (guess the thing used too much energy trying to get our attention). I am not going to go into the nitty-gritty details as others have done an excellent job in providing that information for those of you who like to know what to expect. For me, most of the fun in a game is discovery as I move through the game. I will only say that I enjoyed the HOPS and Puzzles. There was nothing out of the ordinary but the HOPS were well-designed and creative. The puzzles were fun and even though most seemed easy, they were still quite entertaining. The CE value is very good and there are lots of goodies included. We find the standard fare but the extras included make this a CE value that you should consider. I find that the package includes a lot more than we have seen in recent games. Needless to say, IMHO, it is an excellent CE game. I couldn’t wait to download the game this morning and purchased it immediately (I had beta tested the game and knew it is one that I wanted). As you can guess by the title of my review this is a great mystery game that includes all of the creepiness that most of us could hope to find. I think this is an amazing game and hope that you will find it as enjoyable and entertaining as I do. I love the game and it has been difficult to drag myself away as I kept saying “only one more scene and I will have breakfast”. When a game is this good it really is difficult to leave and take care of those real-life tasks. Even though I think this is a terrific game, please try the demo to see if it is a game that you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE ROADS OF THE DEAD ARE OPEN TO THOSE WHO SEEK THEM After years of searching, Carlos has finally found what he was looking for, and it was right here in Hackamore Bluff this whole time! Now Carlos is missing, so you hop on the first bus to Hackamore Bluff, but you are definitely not welcome here! The townsfolk of Hackamore certainly have skeleton's in their closets, but it's time to call their Bluff All roads seem to lead to the good town doctor, Emily Lynch... but these roads also lead to the dead! Unfortunately, we have a Talisman Gadget, however, it really isn't used that often (2-3 times in the demo) There is a mini-game associated with it where you memorize and then repeat the sequence of skulls lighting up on a grid after they fade, which adds more cells each time. I love that MHG is finally adding Morphing Objects to each scene, and I really love that they changed the CE Spirals to hidden Skulls! The skulls still have Spirals on their foreheads, but they are very well blended into the scenery...THANK YOU, MHG for listening to your fans!!! The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly Listed Item finds, but the scenes are clear and most objects are fairly well hidden. There are some multi-layered HOP's, Silhouetted Shape finds, Multiple Item finds and finding and Replacing items in a story. In this Collector's Edition version, each HOP has a Morphing Object to find, and I will admit that some were a little tricky to spot! The Mini-Games are in abundance Puzzle-Lovers! (don't worry, there's also plenty of HOP's) Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during and after the demo: 1) Click rapidly to fill the meter. 2) Light buttons shown on the clue, 1 affects others. 3) Move tokens to the slots with matching symbols. 4) Talisman: memorize and repeat sequence after they fade. 5) Select when the balls land in the crosshairs. 6) Select the books according to the clue. 7) Swap books according to the clue. 8) Arrange books to create a complete image on their spines. 9) Slide layers of tiles to create the image. 10) Connect the pairs of yellow symbols. 11) Select squares to enter the correct symbols shown. 12) Swap tiles to assemble the picture. 13) Find and replace items in each scene. 14) Click tiles until a path is completed from end to end. 15) Arrange similar urns on shelves to match clues shown. 16) Slide tiles to form the image. 17) Slide tokens to red dots using bumper tiles as a guide. 18) Connect breakers with the correct number of connections. This Collector's Edition version has 4 Wallpapers, 3 Concept Art pictures (before/after slider) 10 Music Soundtracks, 10 Achievements to earn (most with Gold, Silver, Bronze categories) 14 Character Gallery pictures, 21 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes (allows you to search for Morps you may have missed as well) 21 HOP Morphing Objects, 29 Scene Morphing Objects, (YEAH! MHG thanks for adding this feature!) 29 Hidden Skulls with Spirals (YEAH! MHG thanks for the change & the Challenge!) 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy your walk amongst the dead! Rated 5 out of 5 by from A game for puzzlers AND HOP lovers Again a 1st review that was unfair in my opinion - I get if you comment that you could not play, but to trash the whole game is not fair to the developers. First of all, this game is not for newbies - slightly challenging for that. Storyline is not totally novel, but interesting with very little dialog. Colors are very grey and brown. There are skulls and morphing objects to find on each scene and probably an equal number of puzzles vs. HOP. Warning, these items will not be visible on small devices in my opinion as they are very small. The hidden object puzzles have morphing objects, but leaning more toward HOP. There are collectibles and a HOP gallery in the extras along with the typical music and wallpaper. Bonus game as well. If this review sounds intriguing - give it a try - demos are free after all. :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DEFEAT THE DEVOURER REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS I really enjoyed the game and loved that there was plenty to do in each scene. You play Jenny who has to rescue your husband Carlos from the clutches of the Devourer. There is: * Voiceovers (with dialogue); * Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard and Custom modes; * Interactive map; * 10 Achievements (all with 3 stars); * Journal; * Find 29 skulls in game and bonus; * Find 50 morphing objects (this includes the HOPs as well). The graphics are superb and each scene is very clear to find items you need. I loved going through the scenes never knowing what to expect next. The music is mainly orchestral, piano and chanting. There are 21 replayable HOPs, some of which have a great challenge. I love playing these HOPs and I keep going at them until I get 3 stars - which is no mean feat! Keep an eye out for that ever elusive morph in each HOP. There are a huge variety of mini-games to play and I enjoyed them all. Most are relatively easy to play, but there are a couple where you have to get tiles in the right order, etc and these can take a while. All are very accomplishable though. You have a talisman with you throughout the game and bonus. You play a simple game of putting the skulls in the right part of the grid and then you are ready to use it. At the end of the game you have another small bonus game to play and MY ULTIMATE FAVOURITE the Ultimate HOP which is a great way to finish off. All up the game, bonus and extras took me around 8 hours to play, so good value for money. Overall, a terrific game and definitely worth putting in your collection. Happy playing fishies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good game but NOT Rite of Passage This is a good game but what I do not like is that it is not "Rite of Passage" which in the original games was all about children learning new things in order to grow up... This story is great and I have enjoyed it but all games seem to have the same premise these days. Spooky weird "otherworld people" with nefarious designs on the living. Am getting so tired of it. The original Rite of Passage games were brilliant because of the new storylines. Still the game is good.
