Nevertales: The Abomination Collector's Edition is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent game! This is such an enjoyable game, I have played for two days now, still not finished, love to enjoy the scenery, beautiful graphics so no punishment for admiring while looking for the morphing objects. There is nothing I can find that is not good about this one! Really happy with my buy and hopefully more games will be as great as this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Family is everything Based on the finished game with bonus material. I play a mage who has power by spells. My world is crumbing because the author who put us into existents is divorcing and not himself. My quest leads me to four different realms. This maker is generous with the extras. I found some morphs very hard to find. I would have liked them easier so that I wasn't waiting and watching for so long. They are in every scene and most hops. 29 in the scenes and 18 in the hops. You also have a collectible in every scene, so 29 of those. I liked that they weren't the normal token Mad Head swirl collectible. After you finish you have the Ultimate hops, 35 piece jigsaw puzzle and the pigeon puzzle. You can replay 18 hops and 10 music. Concept art 13, wallpaper 16 and 15 characters. The good thing about having the wallpaper and characters separate is that the wallpaper has no character and no game stamp. Just a nice scene. I liked the hops and the puzzles in this game. The abilities were ok at first but I got used to them and they were fun for me. Speaking to the animals and the levitation were my favorites. I felt like I was the one using these abilities. My favorites in this series are Legends and Shattered Image. This game has 5 chapters + bonus. Spoiler alert. I loved the dog, elephant and crab in the main game and the voodoo heads in the bonus chapter. The under the sea world was my favorite realm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AN EXCELLENT TALE WORLD CHAPTER! The Abomination is an evil force threatening the very existence of the 4 Realms artistically created by the famous author, Michael Ballard. Each of the four realms represents the Arthurs successful novels, every detail, every aspect he envisioned, gave birth to and created these fantasy-worlds and its people page by page. When Michael Ballard's personal life begins to crumble, evil begins to take root within the realms as well. There's still hope for Michael, there's still hope that lies within a simple mage-in-training who must now embark on a journey to save 4 imaginary realms whose fate can be determined by a simple stroke of the Creator's pen! Yes, there is a gimmicky Gadget of Spell-Casting, however, it does NOT involve following recipes (other than finding specific ingredients for each spell the first time only to "learn" the spell) and it does NOT involve any repetitive Mini-Game prior to using a spell, so I'm totally okay with this scenario! During the Main Game (it isn't used during the BC) you will use the Portal Spell 6 times, the Object Levitation Spell 8 times, the Talk to Animals Spell 4 times, the Fire Resistant Spell 3 times, the Antidote Spell 3 times, the Open Door Spell 3 times, the Mermaid Shape-shifting Spell 1 time, and the Muse Shard Spell 1 time as well. Once you acquire the spell-book page and the 3-4 ingredients associated with each spell, that spell becomes available w/o any having to complete a step-by-step recipe game or a mini-game to activate, you simply choose the spell you want to use. I'm being specific with feature details on my review to help counteract other discrepancies. Most of the 18 main Hidden Object Scenes are simple Listed Item Finds but the smaller Zoom Zone HOP's available vary with Silhouetted Shape Finds, Finding & Replacing Items, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Sketched Picture Finds and Swatch Picture Finds (items that match fabric samples) I actually prefer a no-frills, old-school Listed Item HOP so I was perfectly happy with these HOP's. The scenes are colorful and the graphics are crystal clear, even the objects themselves are recognizable and some items were well blended and not easily spotted. Some of the scene locations were excellent, such as finding items sketched into a grey-bricked wall, finding intricate shapes sketched on 3 different pieces of paper or items stuffed between branches in a beaver dam. Each of the 18 main HOP's has a Morphing Object to find and they are quite challenging to spot because they blend well and morph slowly. The Mini-Games are fairly decent and vary in difficulty. There are 22 mini-games within the Main Game and I'm a little disappointed that none are offered for re-play within the CE Extra's menu because I really liked some of the more difficult ones. Below are brief descriptions of some of my favorite puzzles throughout the entire game: 1-Select elephant tusks to match the lengths shown on the clue. 2-Remove tiles between identical tiles that shift positions when a tile is removed. 3-Rotate and swap triangles so they share corners w/identical numbers of dots. 4-Jump gold balls until only one ball remains. 5-Use directional arrows to navigate in the dark. 6-Overlay segments strips so that every hole is filled with a gem. 7-Turn wheels and adjust arm segments to grab all circular knobs. LOVED IT! 8-Move tiles to adjacent empty slots until all gear tiles connect. In the Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter, you play as Jason Ballard, son of the Author Michael Ballard, who gets swept away to Tale World to fight an evil witch. Because you aren't playing as an Adept, you won't use any Spells within the BC. There are 10 Mini-Games and 4 Hidden Object Scenes within the BC and you will pick up the remaining 7 Mage Citadels, 7 Scene Morphing Objects and 4 Hidden Object Morphs. This Collector's Edition version has 12 Wallpapers, 9 Concept Art Pictures (w/before-after slider bars) 10 Music Soundtracks, 0 replayable Movie Video Cutscenes, 18 replayable Hidden Object Scenes (you can pick up missing HOP Morphs, improve accuracy and earn 3 stars as well as pick up missing HOP achievements) 29 Hidden Mage Citadel's (one per scene) 29 Morphing Objects (one per scene) 18 Hidden Object Scene Morphs, Character Bios (after completing the BC) Jigsaw Puzzle to assemble (after completing the BC) Pigeon Puzzle (after completing the BC) Ultimate HO (after completing Collectible Hunt) 11 Achievements to earn (6 of which are available in 3 parts) 5 Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-in Strategy Guide. Rated 5 out of 5 by from MadHead games never fails to impress As usual, I enjoyed MadHead's game. The story line was interesting and kept me caring about the outcome. There was tons to do, and I'll admit, I hit the hint button more than once. You travel to different realms saving your world(s) from extinction. I always look forward to their games and have every one they've put out on BigFish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sad When It Ended.. As another reviewer stated, I'm not going to go in depth regarding the mechanics or story because others have done it excellently. My review will be much more of my broad impressions of the story and mechanics. This review is based off playing the entire CE. The story in this game is fantastic, indeed one of the best stories I've ever seen in a HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure). It absolutley kept me invested and entertained throughout my entire 3 hour playtime. The story is greatly assisted by the visuals which are stellar. Every realm is very detailed, unique, and memorable. The gameplay is what you would expect of the genre, with some unexpected twists added to the formula. The puzzles are good, albeit I wish they would have been a little harder. The hidden object scenes are very well put together and I really enjoyed them, depsite how scarce they are. The voice acting is what you would expect, it's not terrible, but not fantastic. It gets the job done, but, you will be enjoying the game so much, you won't really notice it's not as good as the rest of the package. The only downside, that I can think of is the length. It's a pretty short game so, if you are looking for a multi-day experience, you might consider looking elsewhere. If you are less experienced with the genre, the game might take you longer. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this game. If you are considering buying it, or you enjoyed the demo, just do it. You won't regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think they got it Hi people! I shall not describe the game’s mechanics: other players have done it beautifully already. The best part is that developers finally realised that copy-paste is no longer an option. Obviously there is nothing new about the whole saving the world thing, however there is a beautiful twist that strictly speaking all the characters (apart from the immediate family of the author and probably the dog) are just different derivatives from the mind of one man. That adds an additional twist and I wonder if psychiatrists might be interested) The rest is very good as always with Mad Head, even if music migrates from one game to another, which I personally don’t mind since I like it. And a minor twitch: those of us, who are blessed (or cursed) with a good visual memory will notice a flower which keeps reappearing from time to time since the first Beyond. Hmmm, guys? Could you at least change its colour or some twists of its leaves?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A BEAUTIFUL GAME AND ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NEVERTALES SERIES – WELL WORTH THE WAIT! It has been three years since the release of the last game in the Nevertales series and I think this one was worth waiting for. Nevertales The Abomination is a creative game and, at least for me, this one is far better than the last several in a series that had lost its direction and flair. The Abomination is the tale of a creator who has basically lost his muse and his direction. Will the creator be able to rise and save the world of Ballard and its four realms or will he eventually destroy all that he had created? The graphics and sound package for The Abomination are terrific. As we travel to the four realms we are treated to the beauty that was created by the Author and wonder how he would think of destroying it all. As usual we find all of the bells and whistles that come with a CE game and particularly the in-game Strategy Guide that did provide some helpful information when I was stuck. The Abomination is a great game with some beautiful and varied HOPS. My biggest issue with the HOPS is that again a developer is making the items we need to find almost invisible. This was very apparent with the first HOP when not only were the items almost transparent they were often very small. It is only my opinion because others might like the challenge of finding transparent items in a scene, but I believe there is a far better way to increase the difficulty factor than by resorting to a tactic that is sure to strain the eyes of many older gamers. The Abomination is yet another game that has far more puzzles than HOPS but since I did enjoy the puzzles in the game I’m not complaining. I found the puzzles to be mostly a bit easy but some were tricky to figure out. The game included some favorite puzzles such as the one where I needed to switch and rotate parts of a picture in order to see the correct image. Although creating potions and casting spells are not my favorite things to do in a game, I still enjoyed Nevertales The Abomination because of its beautiful graphics as well as the creative storyline. This is a game that is has a lot of tasks to complete and actions that kept me engaged as I moved through the story. I felt the pace of the game was right for me and that the mix of puzzles, HOPS and adventure kept me entertained and involved right from the beginning of the game. Although I feel that Nevertales The Abomination is an excellent game, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FISHERMAN A writer's sense of inspiration can flag and so can a game developer's and so can a player's. The new Nevertales which I just played starts from the failure of a writer's sense of being in touch with his muse, his inspiration. Is it the work also of a developer, MadHead which also is repeating itself a little? or is the game's inspiration fresh? and what about the player? Late in the game the ,to me, most interesting character appears who is the fisherman. He says several things. Who is he? does it all hold together? well not simple questions I think. but first meet him maybe and he said "It's the journey that counts." and again "it's the journey that makes the person." If that interests you (as HOPA games go it seems pretty deep to me. look up and compare C.P.Cavafy poem "Ithaca". Anyway if that interests you then make this journey!
