Paranormal Files: The Hook Man's Legend Collector's Edition is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love Rick Rogers I love this series and I love Rick Rogers - and we share the same taste in slippers. This is a short game, but very enjoyable. I liked the story line and trying to figure out who was real and who was not. I was happy with the HOs, and the puzzles. Goals were clear, and there was no difficulty playing. I'm hoping this series will continue for a bit, but I'd like the game to be a little bit longer. I'm sure I will play this again; in fact, I'm thinking about replaying the whole series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ANOTHER EXCELLENT PARANORMAL FILES THAT WILL “HOOK” YOU ON THE SERIES Hunky paranormal detective Rick Rogers is back in the third Paranormal Files: The Hook Man’s Legend, a terrific ghostly whodunit mystery. You will have to sort fact from fiction as you strive to find what is real and what isn’t in Ashen Valley. I loved the previous two Paranormal Files games, both of which were rated four plus stars by other gamers and I predict that this one will reach the top of the charts as well. The HOPS were very creative and I particularly enjoyed the one with a slider component. I hate to give away the details in a game so will only say that I believe all of the HOPS are terrific and for me one of the best components of the game, or more accurately they are the best. Not only are the HOPS excellent, the well-designed Puzzles are possibly even better, and this comes from someone who is not a fan of puzzles. Even though some were based on puzzles I’ve seen in the past, they were somehow changed to make them even better. The great thing about both the HOPS and Puzzles is that there is a fairly equal balance between the two so we don’t have a game that has far too many more puzzles than HOPS. As with the previous two games the storyline is well developed and told in a manner that unfolds as you find the usual clues and bits and pieces as you move through the game. I enjoyed the way the story unfolded and soon found myself so interested that I kept wanting to learn more about The Hook Man. The gameplay did involve a fair amount of back and forth but as I was hunting for the items I might need, but I liked that I did not have to stop frequently to play a Puzzle or HOP scene that seemed to interrupt the game flow. Another thing that I really like in some of the more recent games is that more developers are going back to having larger inventories where we are carrying a lot more items with us as we more back and forth between the scenes so that we need to remember where a particular inventory item might be used. In the earlier days of HOPA games, we sometimes had ten or more items in inventory and there was a lot of back and forth in the games as well, which is something that I really liked. At some point, the games became more linear and with that feature they became much easier and so straightforward, losing some of the challenge that was once found in the HOPA games. Now, at least with the larger amounts of inventory items some of the challenge has returned. Paranormal Files The Hook Man’s Legend is a game that I highly recommend but, as always, please try the demo to see if it is a game that you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rick Rogers is Back! Now this one is more like it! I thoroughly enjoyed both Fellow Traveler and The Tall Man, but the third installment in the series, Enjoy the Shopping, fell short in my opinion. However, The Hook Man's Legend recaptured Rick's wry humor and clever wit bringing that element to the Paranormal Files games that makes it stand out from the dreary cookie-cutter HOGs that seem to have become the norm. The storyline was compelling, taking a fresh approach to an old tale. The mini-games were the perfect level of difficulty for me, especially with the option to choose between Easy and Hard. The HO scenes were a little dark, but not so bad that I had to use any hints. I found the eyes, collectibles and morphing objects without too much trouble, though the eyes were sometimes really hard to spot. Overall, I was very pleased to see that this game had the same appeal as the first two. Rick Rogers is easily my favorite paranormal detective, and that's saying something given the competition he has with Anna Gray, Brown and James from their respective games. Looking forward to see what case Rick has next in his Paranormal Files!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I Highly Recommend You Judge This Game Yourself I will state right up front that the mini games where extremely challenging. That was OK with me figured I would play the game again and for all I skipped I would give them ago again. I felt the story was quite satisfactory. The game provided a slew of things to do. The map was great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mystery with twist and turns Rick Rogers run a paranormal detective agency and he had a call from a woman about a ghost problem. He runs into a local man who has lived there all his life and he never heard of the town he's looking for. The only way he found it was from a very old map. There are 3 chapters + bonus and the trial is Chapter 1. It's data rich at 1.2 G. I liked the extras, the story and it's twists. I liked the hops. The beginning puzzles has multiple steps and I wouldn't play them without the guide. It does have mixed puzzle levels and way easier in the bonus chapter. Our story is in Arkansas. I did see a skip on a hops. The extras are find 12 voodoo character doll with info. Find 28 eyes and 28 morphs, one in each scene. Replay 14 hops, 13 puzzles, 5 music. Achievements, Bonus Art, Secret Room, 10 wallpapers, 11 concept art and screensaver. Bonus art is a jigsaw with the 28 pieces you collected from the morphs and you can play it again and again. Secret room has 3 hops you open as you collect the eyes. It's just a little fun thing. You can replay it if you want to. Some things are disturbing like the cat. There is a diary in the car that has the storylines of the last three Paranormal Files so I know the villain of the last game even when I haven't played it yet. The audio was messed up in the beginning for a short piece. The game is dark and I can't play it in a sunny room even with the brightness at !00%. I would have liked to have a replay of the video clips. I agree with others who want a zero wait on skip and hints or 5 sec. The 15 sec is too long. I did like some details- Bright colorful sweater, Nesting dolls, bunny slippers, parrot and elephant on the desk. I still liked the game and I'm glad I bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HOOKED ON RICK ROGERS AND THIS PARANORMAL SERIES REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME 3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 43 pages (My time: 5 Hours) OPINION: Welcome to Arkansas, Rick Rogers! As a paranormal investigator, be prepared to tour a ghost town as you uncover its history and the legend behind its most notorious resident, Hook Man. I found this a decent game. The story is a haunting tale of a vengeful ghost. It is mildly spooky fare for the fall season. Nevertheless, I feel the past games in this series are better than this one. Although the puzzles and HOP scenes are creatively designed, there are few of either in this game. With so few activities and the monotonous back-and-forth action between scenes, I found this game dragged in some places. The HOP scenes are the best part of the game. There are not many of them, only twenty (20) in the entire game. There are also two (2) mini-HOP scenes with a small number of items to locate. There is a variety of types of scenes. They include lists of items, silhouette, storybook, and matching scenes. There are some spot-the-difference scenes along with pattern scenes. There are some very novel scenes in this game. My favorite is a clever search-and-replace scene in which items within four (4) birdhouses must be located and then placed in the proper location. The puzzles are fantastic – there are just not many of them. There are only nineteen (19) puzzles in the game, including the bonus chapter. There are multiple step puzzles (2 puzzles presented at one time). I counted them as one complete puzzle. They vary in style and difficulty. Most of the puzzles are easy or of middle difficulty. I found none of them difficult, and all are ones seen in other games. The final puzzle at the end of the bonus chapter is amazing! It involves knights in five (5) different puzzles as you navigate through a sewer. There is also an awesome three (3) part puzzle involving keys in that chapter as well. The collectibles are morphing objects, voodoo dolls, and eyes. The eyes can be used to open three (3) additional puzzles at the end of the game. The morphing objects are puzzles pieces for a jigsaw puzzle played at the end of the game to create a screensaver. MECHANICS: • Four (4) levels of play including a customized version. • Twenty (20) achievements. • Collect twelve (12) voodoo dolls • Collect twenty-eight (28) morphing objects • Collect twenty-eight (28) eyes to open bonus content (3 new puzzles) • Ten (10) wallpapers along with screensaver, concept art, music and video sequences • Bonus art which includes puzzle pieces for a jigsaw puzzle • Replay fourteen (14) HOP scenes and thirteen (13) puzzles BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. Return to Ashen Valley at the bequest of a father in search of his missing son. A ghost has possessed the boy and now you must locate him and free him from this ghostly hold. Time will be of the essence in this case in more ways than one! I found the bonus chapter comparable to the main game. I found the story somewhat strange. There are five (5) puzzles and six (6) HOP scenes. To me, it was a decent addition to the game. SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO: A. Strategy puzzle. Move two crates to designated areas using a forklift. You must push them to the proper locations and avoid obstacles blocking your path. If you are blocked in obtaining access to the crates, then you must restart. B. Logic puzzle. According to given clues, place babushka dolls in the proper order. As career-driven dolls, those babushkas have been replaced with appropriate career head gear. C. Escape Room puzzle. Use the abilities of 3 characters from the game to move all three to the upper level of a house. Each character has from one to 3 skills which they carry with them. You will use all of them and choose between their skills to get through the house. D. Multiple-step puzzle. (1) Matching puzzle. Match up 12 heads with 12 silhouette heads emanating from a ghost. (2) Sequence puzzle. Repeat the sequence of skeletal hands 2X BONUS CHAPTER: E. Maze puzzle. For three keyholes in the middle of the maze. (1) Choose the correct key which has a path from the keyhole to the key at the top of the maze. (2) Take the key and replicate its design on the bottom right of the screen by having either 1, 2, 3 or 4 notches showing. (3) Place the key into the lock and turn it clockwise and/or counterclockwise the number of times as indicated by given directions F. Navigate a sewer. Solve puzzles involving knights. (1) Choose the correct knight to open two exits and choose the correct one (2) Sequence puzzle. Click four knights in the proper sequence. Then choose between 3 exits (3) Choose a piece on one of the knights and interact with it Choose between two paths (4) Match up knights with their correct shields Choose between 3 paths (5) Place arrows into proper position and choose between 2 paths
