Modern Art 11 is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MASTER OF THE MONOCHROME! Plus more... I swear, you could show this artist a black cat in a back alley on a dark night during a power outage and get a great canvas in return. Fortunately, the artist is a fan of variety, giving us a broad selection of subjects and colors. Things being what they are in Eastern Europe, I wasn't sure we would get another Modern Art for a long while, but when I logged in at Midnight, there it was: instant buy. Newbies: This is where you will find the real world in the Impressionist style of art. Some of the animals are so well depicted that it feels as if you could reach through the screen and pet them. There is no wrong way or right way to indulge in filling out these works of art - just pick a color from the palette, a section of the subject, an element, or the whole canvas while letting the program pick colors for you as you drag your cursor across the surface, and plunge right in. Granted, this time the artist forgot to add the programming that makes the numbers pop up when you scroll over them - and I hope there will be a patch - but since we can enlarge the image 'ad infinitum', it kinda' doesn't matter. Annnnd, it doesn't tray well. If it locks your screen, click Alt while holding down Ctrl and Delete (Alt+Ctrl+Del); in the options window in the bottom right corner, click on the Power icon, then Restart. Or the game window may finally close after clicking on [select game] End Task in the Task Manager about 10 times. Or more. TIP: Don't hold your mouse in a death grip while dragging the cursor to avoid hand/shoulder discomfort. It also helps to frequently change fingers or hands. By reading the reviews of the 4 "Numbers" games Big Fish has chosen for us, I see there is occasionally confusion about which is which. Here you go: PAINT BY NUMBERS series by T1 Game Detail level: Low. Simple art, Crayola colors. Humans not drawn well at all, but they are few and far between. Great pastime for kids, adults, and us little old folks. ART BY NUMBERS series by Awigor Detail level: Medium to High A celebration of colors portrayed in the fantastical 3D form of stuffed satin patchwork quilt animals and other subjects. Includes shadowbox art using drop shadows. People are perfectly 3D'd in a range of natural skin colors. Total eye candy. MODERN ART seriesby T1 Games Detail level: High Real world subjects that are beautifully depicted in the Impressionist style. Animals portrayed in fine detail. ART COLORING new series by Awigor Detail level: Medium to High, varies by image. A wonderful combination of Art by Numbers and Modern Art, this new series will keep you spellbound for hours. Received 5 out of 5 stars from a slew of reviewers on day 1.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tutorial Many times, I see complaints about this game that you have to finish the first 8 pictures before you have access to the rest of the pictures. It seems to be the way with all the different paint games. In this game in particular, you need to do the first 8 because in each one they provide instructions on how to "play" the game. The problem being is that, as this is the 11th game in this series and that most of the people who played earlier versions, know the instructions and would like to be able to turn them off. If the developers would give you the option to turn off the instructions, then it should allow you access to the entire game right away. This should be able to be fixed with a simple option loop in the software. Unfortunately there is no way to make paint-by-number challenging without making tiny spots to color. There are usually 2 types of pictures within this game; those that are relative easy to see all the parts to paint, and those that require zooming in. Many need the zoom because you can't tell the tiny numbers one from another. 6, 9, 8, 5 all look like same to me in the tiny spots. I would love to see brighter colors, as does everyone else. There are games out there with bright colors that computer players have played, and it should be a simple fix. As there are bright colored paint games out there, Art By Numbers, being one, I would like BFG to consider more of those games. I'm not sure if the comments get to the developers, but I know that Modern Art 11 is not the highest number available. There are higher numbers to this game available on the web. This just happens to be where BFG is in the series. I love the paint by number games, but as like others, dislike really tiny parts. A few tiny parts in the game is ok with me, but when a picture has many tiny parts, it isn't relaxing or fun. I would recommend this game as it does allow peace and timeless energy. If you don't pull your picture from the main screens, unless you're really good, sometimes I have to paint the entire picture to see what I'm painting. It makes it quite fun.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Challenge In A Game Should Be Fun, Not An Annoyance I was delighted to find a new Modern Art but the feeling didn't last long. I don't know what the rest of the game has in store for us, but the first level was disappointing. And naturally we have to complete it before we have access to it. I really hate that feature. I can't buy something without seeing it first ! The game hasn't changed from the last one. The dev is still hung up on dark, unappealing colors and very pale washed out ones. Even if the pictures are lovely images, the poor colors ruin them. I like the features in Modern Art, especially the color wheel that changes the background. It makes it so much easier to see the many areas to be painted. The Zoom is also mighty helpful. Unfortunately, the Hint has become my new best friend. The specks of color in most of the pics are so very teeny-tiny that they are invisible to my eye. It is so frustrating to have to cheat to finish a painting. I don't mind spending a little extra time on it but staring at it for several minutes without results is no fun. There must be another way to include challenge without this method! The images are usually a breeze to complete in spite of the abundance of areas to fill in, but then this roadblock brings me to a stand-still. Scanning your mouse over the picture colors in all the areas of the number you are working on and moving the pic around with your mouse is another great help. I do own quite a few Modern Art games, in the beginning they were so different and the subject matter was very appealing. But the dark colors soon became a spoiler, as they are used on everything from flowers to birds, to landscapes. Art, in my opinion, should be bright and beautiful or dreamy pastels or at least realistic in the color schemes. Blacks, browns and murky greens just don't make sense to me. Modern Art is still a quality paint game, it offers much more than others at BFG and there are never any tech issues. I do think it would be nice to have more than 64 images and the selection of subject matter could be expanded. The collections usually include something for everyone though, from the very simple to the very complex. All the images can be redone, so the replay value means the game will last forever. If you haven't yet tried Modern Art, give the demo a spin and enjoy being an artist for a while. Painting has a way of soothing my soul, so relaxing. Not sure if I will buy this one. I did see some beautiful flowers with the synopsis. The red ones are in the first level but are way too dark. Maybe a good sale will inspire me to add to my collection.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from THERE ARE A FEW PAINTINGS THAT ARE REALLY PRETTY BUT THE MAJORITY ARE PRETTY BLAND I'm giving this one an extra star because out of all the painting games by this developer, Modern Art is the best and has the potential to be a very creative art game. I love the different textures which give each color a unique blend because the finished images look authentic, in fact, I've often wondered if the pictures were replicas of actual paintings by real artists! There are 64 images available and for the first time, I was able to select any of the paintings in any order! Finally, they added a color selection bar that allows you to customize the color of the background and highlighted areas. Without this feature, some of the areas would have been impossible to spot because they were so tiny, but I would just simply select a different colored background until I found a color that was contrasting to the colors used in each painting! This is an easy but relaxing game where you simply color areas by numbers. You can hold the mouse button and drag the cursor over the areas, or click on each individual area. There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (or you can scroll the mouse wheel) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. I still feel that this developer needs to ask for help from their fans, or seek advice from a professional artist. Throughout each of their painting series (Modern Art, Paint By Numbers, Pixel Art, Polygon Art) they consistently fail to offer interesting images and the majority of images have bland, unappealing color hues. Granted, a professional Artist would be an added expense (but would surely improve sales) Asking for advice from fans, BEFORE releasing the game is a win-win situation, we love to help because we get a better quality game in the long run, and asking for advice creates loyal fans who feel their opinion actually matters! Speaking of BF fans, hike on over to my new forum where you can chat with fellow game fans, catch up with long-lost fishies from the Big Fish Forum days or just chillax for a bit by the campfire with an endless supply of smores.
