Wanderlust: What Lies Beneath Collector's Edition is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW....What a superb game !!! Well...I see the mad Russians have done it again !!! (I read the credits of every game I play and they have got to be one of the best gaming companies around) I'm so impressed with their ability to not only do fantastic artistry but they also immerse you in the story !!! The more I played and read the story the more trouble I had quitting !!! The visuals are top-notch and the music is not too hard to listen to !!! There are a few challenging spots, but can be won by using some strategy and good ol' fashioned brain power !!! I have nothing but good things to say about this developer, most of their games are well written and an absolute joy to play !!! Try the demo...I don't think you'll be disappointed !!! Have fun all !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Played all day Tried this and brought it straight away. Kept playing until I'd finished the main game and the bonus levels. Some of the hidden objects were a little easy (hence only 4 stars for Level of Challenge) but lots of original puzzles and game play. Morphing objects and collectables (always a plus with me) keep you on your toes. Good and original story. Best game I've played for a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A LANDMARK GAME On a stormy day here in the lower Hudson this game has been a gift! Mad Head games has again done something I think absolutely new. In Adam Wolfe they opened a new path entirely between hardcore gaming and casual gaming. In the first Cadenza games they made a place and a music more real than one have thought developers far from New Orleans could have done. Here in the first Wanderlust games they do rather many things pretty well, creation of a colorful world of the inner earth with graphics combining strangeness and allure at times...but also something I have not seen the equal or hardly the like of...the creation of a set of five characters none of whom has deeply dishonorable motivation of any kind or the tiresome stupidity of wanting to (rule/destroy/transform etc) the world. Of course it is not Dostoevsky or Proust or something and of course the plot dances along the edge of the incredible but... THE CHARACTERS ARE ALL INTERESTING. Yes there is evil out there but it is not a personal evil... The plot is in this deep sense new. Now I dont know what will follow under the name of "Wanderelust" or using these characters, I have despaired of Cadenza and there has been no followup on Adam Wolfe. but nonetheless it is a landmark game. Play it. Cherish it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive YaY! A beautifully scenic Amazon! A far superior archeology kit instead of magic!!! Yay! A New storyline!! I love jungle stories. And the puzzles, of which there are many, are different but not hard. You will be drawn in immediately and not want it to end. This is one of the best this year. Hope y'all enjoy as much as I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MAD HEAD SETS THE BAR HIGHER WITH AN EXCELLENT SCI-FI GAME Wanderlust What Lies Beneath is what I hope is only the beginning game in a new Sci-Fi series. You play the game as Professor Cassie Sylva currently working at a dig in Egypt when you receive a phone call from the mysterious Mr. Gate – one that might possibly change your life. Undiscovered pyramids don’t simply rise out of the earth do they? According to Mr. Gate, this is exactly what has happened in the Columbian jungle, and for you this is a mystery worth investigating. Of course, another team led by your sister Elsa is already on its way to the site so speed is of the essence. You soon find yourself on a plane to Columbia and a possible confrontation with Elsa. Find out more about sibling rivalry and the rift between Cassie and Elsa as you play this exciting new game from the genius development team at Mad Head. There is not a lot to say about the graphics but I will mention that they are crisp and color intense. After an earlier game this week that had very sub-par graphics it is terrific to find a game where I don’t need to strain my eyes to play a HOP. If I have any complaint at all it is with the game’s Custom Mode. I think that when the developers offer a Custom Mode they should allow the gamer to set their own Hint and Skip recharge times. A custom mode implies that the gamer can choose their preferred settings rather than have a time limit that is set by the designer. The game tools include an interactive map and a field kit that has a hatchet, brush, and a translation guide. I love everything about this game from the HOPS to the Puzzles. The HOPS are nothing new but they so very well-designed and varied in style. There is a Map/Maze HOP early in the game that is a combo HOP and Puzzle that I love. Even though there are a lot of puzzles they are not always difficult and they fit into the storyline. I’m not sure that I have ever played a HOPA game with as many puzzles as there are in What Lies Beneath but suffice it to say that it is a puzzle lover’s delight. Some of the puzzles are very easy but most of them have a moderate level of challenge. The CE version of the game includes finding the typical Mad Head logo that is hidden in each scene. There are Morphing Objects to be found in the HOP scenes and 20 Achievements that can be earned as you play the game. Other extras include the standard Wallpapers, Concept Art, Soundtrack, Bonus Game, and Strategy Guide. Other extras include a Character Gallery, an Ultimate Puzzle, and the option to Replay 18 HOPS. Sadly there is no Replay of the Puzzles unless they are somehow incorporated into the Ultimate Puzzle that can be opened after completing the Bonus Game. Wanderlust is one of the most terrific games I have played in a very long time and I hope that What Lies Beneath is only the first game in the series. I love Sci-fi and we get so very few games based on that theme so Wanderlust is exactly what I’ve been waiting to play. The storyline is excellent as we learn the back story of the family tragedy that separates the two siblings and the circumstance that will ultimately bring them together. Even though Wanderlust is a perfect game for me, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy. Happy Gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The strange pyramid: is this just the entrance to something incredible? A special adventure in the investigation of unexplained phenomena lies before us. So the introduction shows a pyramid, rising from the ground in a mere moment in the jungle of Amazon. Pyramids as such are enigmatic, even more so, when appearing out of nothing. We play as an archeologist, Professor Cassie Sylva. In a rather quiet phase with no prospect of new projects, a call comes in. It is a Mr Gate (apparently a wealthy investor in all sorts of promising projects). He wants us to investigate a pyramid. But here comes, what makes it special: the pyramid has simply emerged in the jungle, ancient and never been detected before. According to rumors there is already another team at the site, led by a Miss Elsa and we should start immediately. Elsa could well be our estranged sister, who is an archeologist too. Anyway, off to the adventure into something incredible. Our plane brings us with an almost crash into, what seems, the middle of the jungle. In one of the boxes we already found information on the pyramid: there is sort of history. It appeared and reappeared in several places. Finally at the site, we meet our sister in a not too friendly family reunion which is competition for the rights of the find at the same time. Then Elsa and her crew are sucked into the inner portion of the pyramid. Now it seems up to us, Cassie, to find out, what is behind this pyramid, its sudden appearance and where Elsa and her team went. A thrilling story told in good, almost breathless, pace with entertaining HOS and challenging puzzles. What lies Beneath is the first game of the new sci-fi series Wanderlust. Much of what we may expect lies in the word: A desire for new, unexplored, but also unexplained and undiscovered things. A joyful and curious wandering into adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, please take my money for this game. Four and a half stars because there is still too much hand holding but so far it's a great game. It is beautiful and it is smart. Based on...I don't where the demo ran out; I purchased it before it did.. I am in the "Shaman's Village", which is chapter two. This game requires a little more thought than what is usually released here. Some of the puzzles are easy, some are not. You will need to think. There are excellent puzzle instructions, thank you. There have been a couple of puzzles that were more about dexterity than anything else. I find those annoying because they just measure my ability to click at the right time. We receive items we get to reuse! Yes! I don't have to find four different axes, I can use the one in my toolbox. I will mention the graphics because they are outstanding. We clamor for something different; we have received something different. I am enjoying his game immensely and only took a break to write a review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE POWER OF THE PYRAMID PUTS AN EXTRA PLUS ON THE FIVE STARS FOR THIS GAME! A SCI-FI MASTERPIECE! ONE OF THE BEST! REVIEW BASED ON THE ENTIRE GAME – Time: 5-1/2 hours 4 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 42 pages OVERVIEW: Sci-Fi lovers! If you are searching for one game to play this year, this is the one! What a fantastic game! Mad Head has outdone themselves AGAIN! The story is phenomenal and briefly explores some theories about Atlantis, aliens, and, of course, pyramids! The is an action-packed adventure which drops you into a Colombian jungle as Professor Cassie Sylva. As an archaeologist, you are off to explore a pyramid which popped up suddenly within this jungle. However, this also a story about the power of a family which must come together to fight the obstacles and the evil monster they will encounter in this game. Family power is greater than pyramid power! I will not disclose more of the story as the demo does not flesh out the total story of this game. To give more information on the story would spoil the game, I believe. MECHANICS: This is a very long game. This game is better after the demo. I believe the demo does not do justice to the excellence of this game! It is a masterpiece of sci-fi gaming. The pace is excellent with plenty of activities to keep the player busy. THERE ARE FORTY-EIGHT PUZZLES just in the main game! Wow! There is a Rube-Goldberg style puzzle (with its eight “8” puzzles) which you play going through a jungle maze. The graphics are exquisite and incredibly beautiful on the island on which most of the game is played. Beside sci-fi lovers, this game should appeal to those who are enthralled by pyramids, pyramid power, and those who just like action-packed adventure games. You get your own gear kit with all the supplies necessary to do some archaeological investigation. You will also use a glyph book to translate glyphs you will encounter as you play the game. You collect 30 swirls (same ones as in all their games). They are easy to locate within the scenes. There are morphing objects within the HOP scenes. There are ten (10) achievements with most having three (3) parts. You can replay eighteen (18) HOP scenes. However, you cannot replay the puzzles. This is my only complaint about this game. With all the puzzles in this game, I wish Mad Head would allow the player to replay some of them. There were a few I did not finish; however, I don’t want to replay this massive game just to play them. BONUS CHAPTER: The bonus chapter is a sequel to the game. Cassie and her family are still on the mysterious island. It is a long chapter as indicated by the strategy guide. I have begun but not finished the chapter. However, it appears that the bonus game would require two to three hours to complete. HOP SCENES: There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes in the game. Having only played the main game, I have not played three (3) of those HOP scenes. There are not many scenes within the game; however, they are much better toward the end of the main game and there are more of them as well. They include lists of items, silhouette, and matching. There are no matching ones in the demo, but several after the demo. The matching ones I felt superb. Toward the end of the main game, the scenes have more searches for symbols rather than items. However, this fits in nicely with the whole sci-fi, alien civilization theme. I found it amusing this game only has one storybook scene which occurs at the END of the game and not at the beginning! Leave to Mad Head to improvise and shake things up a little. The scenes are creatively designed, using an unusual set of venues in which to place the items. PUZZLES: This is a puzzle-lover’s dream game. I cannot believe Mad Head does not allow the player to replay some of these FORTY-EIGHT (48) puzzles from the main game. The ones after the demo are so much better than within the demo. There is a variation of a Rube-Goldberg puzzle which occurs in a jungle maze in which you must play separate puzzles as you meander through this maze to get out of the jungle. Just incredible! Every imaginable puzzle is within this game. They also vary in difficulty as well. There are a couple of difficult puzzles within this game. However, most are easy or moderately difficult. HERE ARE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO: A. Nothing will bar me. Sequence puzzle. Remove interlocking bars in sequence until all bars are removed from the grid. More detailed than in other games which have this puzzle. B. You seem alien to me. Matching puzzle. Match up alien-like figurines by color and shape. C. Take that you jerk! Bullseye! Center a circle within another circle to hit an indigenous villager in the snoot! D. The first step is the worst. Physical puzzle. Click on footsteps when they land on a rock to get to the other side. E. You light up my world. Jigsaw puzzle. Match up and place lighted pieces of the world onto a map of the world. F. Everyone connect hands! Connection puzzle. Connect three pincers to three diamonds. DIFFICULT G. Go to the light! Honeycomb/entrapment puzzle. Move the monster into the light by blocking his path and forcing him to move up to the light. Rube-Goldberg puzzle. The following are some of the eight (8) puzzles which you must solve to get through a maze. H. Maze puzzle. Lead a blue lizard through a maze to get a golden pointer. There are barriers in your path and you will need to maneuver the lizard to open those barriers. I. Moving tiles puzzle. Move and rotate tiles so that three tiles on each of the (3) inner circles all match up. J. Physics puzzle. On a wheel with three (3) marbles, start the smallest marble as the other two are moving so that all marbles reach their perspective destinations at the same time. K. Matching puzzle. On a wheel, move three pentagons so that the colors match up with adjoining tokens.
